Reborn in the Apocalypse: A Commoner's Survival Log

Chapter 85 Dealing with Mutant Chickens

Upon arriving at the points trading window, Shen Zechuan first used his points to purchase a mutated chicken.

While waiting for the mutated chickens to be slaughtered and delivered, Zhou Yang took out several bags of vegetables, a case of strong liquor, and some other things he didn't really need from his spatial storage and sold them to the base.

Due to the current shortage of vegetables and the scarcity of spirits, which are rare items for warming up, the price of these two items alone is not low. In the end, I only exchanged a little over 500 points.

After Shen Zechuan's two mutated chickens were delivered and Zhou Yang put them into his spatial storage, the three of them turned around and went to the base command center building behind.

As soon as they entered, they encountered Gu Tianqi's guards.

After being told that the other party was currently in a meeting, the three of them went to Gu Tianqi's office to wait.

As soon as the three of them entered, they saw Gu Yaoyao wrapped up like a lucky doll, nestled on the sofa, with a small sun in front of her, quietly watching cartoons by herself.

Upon seeing Zhou Yang and the other two, Gu Yaoyao immediately put down her tablet and ran over eagerly.

"Brother! Are you here to pick up Yao Yao? That's great! Yao Yao is so bored."

"Okay, brother will take you to your new home." Yan Fei picked up his little cousin and took out a White Rabbit candy from his pocket, unwrapped it, and stuffed it into Gu Yaoyao's mouth.

"Is it tasty?"

"Good times!"

With a candy in her mouth, Gu Yaoyao could barely speak. She hadn't eaten candy in a long time; before, her father and the childcare worker wouldn't let her, and now there was no candy at all.

The three of them stayed in the office with Gu Yaoyao for a while, and after about half an hour, Gu Tianqi returned with a stack of documents and meeting minutes.

"What brings you guys here?"

Upon seeing Gu Tianqi return, everyone quickly stood up to greet him.

"Uncle Gu/Little Uncle/Dad!"

"Uncle, I brought you the information you asked me for yesterday." Yan Fei handed Gu Tianqi a USB drive after saying that, and then added, "I'll take Yao Yao with me to our place later. You don't have time to take care of her, you just leave her to her own devices."

Seeing the eye roll from his nephew, Gu Tianqi sighed helplessly, "Sigh, what can I do? There are so many things to do at the base, I'm busy from morning till night."

"Alright, alright, busy man, you keep working! Yao Yao, we're leaving now. We'll treat you to something delicious when we get back. Come on, say goodbye to your dad."

Yan Fei knew his uncle was busy and had a hard time, but he felt even more sorry for his little cousin. She had never had a mother since she was little, and her biological father was always acting like he didn't exist. It was truly a miracle that she hadn't gone astray.

"Goodbye, Daddy!" Gu Yaoyao waved to her father very obediently. She was used to being taken around so often, and she didn't feel sad about parting with her father.

"Okay, Dad will come to see you whenever he has time. Be good when you're with your brothers, eat your food properly, wear lots of clothes, and be careful not to catch a cold, okay?"

Looking at his daughter's obedient appearance, Gu Tianqi felt extremely guilty.

Her mother fell ill and passed away not long after giving birth to her, and she herself was in the military for many years. When she was a child, she was left in her hometown to be cared for by her grandparents.

Later, when Yao Yao was almost 2 years old, he went back to his hometown to visit relatives and found that his daughter seemed to dislike speaking. So he went to see a doctor who said that she needed human intervention, and that's when his older sister took her to live with her.

But his older sister was also busy, and everyone else in the family was also very busy. In the end, the person who spent the most time with Gu Yaoyao was Yan Fei, who was still studying at military school at the time. Every time he came home for vacation, the first thing he did was take Gu Yaoyao around to play.

It took two years for things to gradually improve.

Later, when Yan Fei was about to join the army and Gu Yaoyao was of school age, he brought her to the military compound here.

However, the childcare nanny takes care of her day and night, and he can only spend a little time with her when he has free time. The father and daughter don't really spend much time together.

"Mmm, Yao Yao is very obedient!" Gu Yao Yao hugged Yan Fei's neck and nodded repeatedly.

After the father and daughter said goodbye, the three of them were about to leave when Zhou Yang was stopped by Gu Tianqi.

"Xiao Zhou, wait a minute. I said I'd send you some mutant chickens last time, but I've been so busy I forgot. Now that I remember, I'll make it up to you." With that, he waved to the guard, signaling him to go get the mutant chickens.

Zhou Yang then remembered that he seemed to have been told that he would be given a few mutated chickens that day, but he hadn't paid much attention to it at the time. He didn't expect that Gu Tianqi would remember it all this time.

However, he didn't intend to accept it, so he refused, saying, "Uncle Gu, there's no need to give me the mutant chickens. These mutant chickens are more important to the soldiers in the army."

Gu Tianqi frowned and said in an unyielding tone, "No, I said I'd give it, and I'll give it. What's said is said, and there's no going back! Besides, didn't they move across from you? I think they'll all have to rely on you to get a decent meal from now on, so consider this payment for taking care of them for me! And what about my daughter? They're living a rough life, not as attentive as you are, so I'll have to trouble you to take care of my Yao Yao in the future."

Since things had come to this point, Zhou Yang couldn't refuse and had to accept it. However, he also took two bags of fresh vegetables and mushrooms from his spatial storage and gave them to Gu Tianqi.

The base has no shortage of mutated animal meat, but vegetables are indeed scarce. Gu Tianqi had been craving them for a long time, so he shamelessly accepted them.

When the guards brought the mutated chickens, Zhou Yang looked at the four mutated chickens and felt a little embarrassed, but knowing that Gu Tianqi would definitely not take them back, he still put them into his space.

After saying goodbye to Gu Tianqi again, the three of them left the command center with Gu Yaoyao and walked back along the way they had come.

Gu Yaoyao was probably seeing so much snow for the first time. Sitting in Yan Fei's arms, she kept looking around at the road with her little head covered, leaving only her two big eyes visible.

When they got back to the 18th floor, it was almost 12 o'clock, and the three of them, plus Gu Yaoyao, hadn't eaten yet.

Zhou Yang then simply made a pot of three-delicacy soup and a pot of fried noodles, thus solving his lunch problem in a simple way.

After dinner, Zhou Yang planned to deal with the mutated chickens.

Knowing he couldn't manage alone, he decided to directly recruit Shen Zechuan and Yan Fei, two free laborers, and even called over the remaining few from the opposite house.

The two chickens that Shen Zechuan bought with points had been simply processed. The blood had been drained and the feathers had been plucked almost completely, but they were still not clean enough. They needed to be scalded with boiling water and then plucked again.

The four mutated chickens that Gu Tianqi gave to Zhou Yang were also dead, but their necks had only been broken in a simple and brutal way. They were still warm when he gave them to him, so he had to drain their blood first. Four mutated chickens, probably enough to fill two large basins.

Zhou Yang had been thinking about chicken blood for a long time. He took out two clean stainless steel basins, filled them halfway with warm water, added several large spoonfuls of salt and stirred them well. Then he taught Shen Zechuan and the others how to add chicken blood.

After all four mutated chickens had been bled, Zhou Yang stirred the two basins of chicken blood again until they were well mixed before putting them into the steamer to steam.

Luckily, we had prepared two large commercial steamers, otherwise it would have been really difficult to handle.

After the chicken blood was prepared, Zhou Yang directed a few people to scald the chicken in boiling water, pluck the feathers, and then teach them how to clean the internal organs.

After the group had finished dissecting the last mutated chicken, it was Zhou Yang's turn to take the stage as the chef.

First, the chicken breasts were cut into several pieces by Zhou Yang. After being cut in half, they were further divided into two halves. The meat was then repeatedly pounded with the back of a knife to tenderize it. Finally, it was marinated with seasonings such as salt, cooking wine, and pepper.

After marinating, coat the chicken with egg wash and breadcrumbs, then fry it into chicken cutlets.

Next up were the chicken drumsticks. Zhou Yang opted to debone them again, then cut them all into large cubes and divided them into several portions.

He plans to make different flavored dishes, such as spicy diced chicken, Kung Pao diced chicken, diced chicken with corn and green beans, sweet and sour chicken pieces, and salt and pepper popcorn chicken.

As for the chicken bones, apart from reserving some for making chicken broth, the rest, along with the chicken wings and offal, are all made into braised dishes, half of which are spicy and the other half are spiced.

Zhou Yang didn't really like the remaining chicken heads and necks. After asking the others for their opinions, they all said no. In the end, he decided to braise them all and save them for Pea and Rhubarb as snacks.

Zhou Yang worked on the 6 mutated chickens until late at night before finally finishing them all.
