Reborn in the Apocalypse: A Commoner's Survival Log

Chapter 32 Sweeping Through the Wholesale Market

Seeing that Pea had taken on all the zombie-killing work, the others had nothing to do.

After discussing it, they decided that Xu Zhiyi and Zhou Yang would stay here to keep watch, while the others would go to the parking lot to find a large truck.

Wholesale market stores often need to deliver large quantities of goods, so almost every store has its own delivery truck.

They need to find two trucks, the bigger the better.

Luckily, there were indeed several large trucks parked in the parking lot. The largest truck had a cargo box that was as big as a shipping container, and there was also a refrigerated truck.

The only problem was that they didn't have the car keys, but that wasn't a big issue for them.

After all, Shen Zechuan and Yan Fei had spent a lot of time in the military since childhood due to their family backgrounds, and they learned a lot of the strange and unusual skills of special forces soldiers, one of which was to start a car without a key by connecting it directly.

Yan Fei and Shen Zechuan each picked a car, broke through the driver's side window, pulled out the ground wire, power wire, and starter wire respectively, connected them together, and started the car.

In the end, the four of them drove away in three trucks: two of the largest trucks and a refrigerated truck.

When they returned to the entrance of the wholesale market, Pea had already dealt with the zombies and was now sitting next to Zhou Yang, drinking the spring water that Zhou Yang had filled a mineral water bottle with.

Once the car arrived, the group began to pry open the store doors one by one.

The shop with bloodstains at the entrance was also broken into by the group. Inside was an injured man who had mutated into a zombie, and the group gave him a quick death.

Because fruits don't keep well, they only took the most durable kinds, such as apples, pears, pomegranates, lemons, oranges, grapefruits, and persimmons. They also took two freezers full of fruit.

After loading less than half a small truck, the group stopped and prepared to use the remaining space to load supplies elsewhere.

Zhou Yang happened to be able to drive, so the six of them each took a car and headed straight for their next stop—Baijishan Agricultural Wholesale Market.

Baijishan Wholesale Market, located in the south of the city, is the largest wholesale market in the area, covering all agricultural products, including but not limited to grains, vegetables, fruits, and other agricultural and sideline products.

This is also their biggest goal in coming out this time.

To avoid unnecessary danger, the group did not pass through any districts or towns, but instead chose the furthest ring road, which took them an extra 20 minutes to reach their destination.

There were more zombies here than at the previous small wholesale market; I estimated there were at least two or three hundred. The group also found several bloodstains on the ground, along with a lot of blood-stained bags of rice and flour.

It's estimated that residents from nearby neighborhoods came here to collect supplies, but some were attacked and killed by zombies before they could even take them back. The large amount of blood attracted even more zombies, resulting in such a large horde of them surrounding the area.

Having found no living people to eat, the zombies had gradually quieted down. But then six people and a dog appeared. The scent of living people immediately drove the zombies mad, and they roared as they charged towards the group.

Without hesitation, the group got out of the car, grabbed their weapons, and charged forward. Those with offensive abilities practiced on the zombies first, switching weapons to hack and slash when their strength was exhausted. Zhou Yang also took a machete and followed up from behind, finishing off any zombies that managed to escape.

Pea had drunk spring water to replenish his energy, and he was still incredibly brave, maintaining the highest score among everyone.

The six men and one dog took more than ten minutes to deal with all the zombies, then moved the corpses aside to clear the main road so that the trucks behind could drive in.

The group first went to a grain wholesale store to solve their main grain problem, and they needed to use the largest truck to load the grain.

The first choice was, of course, rice, the most important staple food. The group worked for half an hour to fill two-thirds of the largest truck bed before leaving the remaining space for other staple foods, such as dried flour, noodles, dried rice noodles, and sweet potato noodles.

After filling the truck completely, the group went to a wholesale vegetable and fruit store and filled another, slightly smaller truck, which was already carrying fruit, to two-thirds capacity.

As for the remaining space, they plan to reserve it for some durable dried goods, such as dried mushrooms, dried chili peppers, dried bamboo shoots, salt-baked dried bamboo shoots, tea leaves, as well as spices and seasonings such as oil, salt, soy sauce, and vinegar.

They filled two large trucks, including the freezer truck, and then emptied the frozen stock of several livestock and meat wholesalers, filling the freezer truck to the brim so full that the doors could barely be closed.

With staple foods, vegetables, fruits, and meat all included, how could we forget chicken, duck, and goose eggs?

The truck bed was definitely not big enough, but there was still some space in the cab where supplies could be placed.

Furthermore, the back seats of the other two off-road vehicles can be folded down completely to carry supplies, allowing for the transport of even more goods. Also, the smaller vehicles offer better shock absorption than the trucks, making them ideal for carrying eggs.

So, the group robbed several egg wholesalers, loading baskets of chicken, duck, and goose eggs onto the trucks. The eggs were neatly stacked in the back seats of the two SUVs, totaling several thousand eggs, enough to feed them for a long time.

Seeing that the back seats of both SUVs were being used, leaving the one where Pea lay down empty, Zhou Yang felt a little embarrassed and suggested, "How about we use the back seat of this van to carry supplies? Pea can run alongside the vehicle in the back."

"Will it work? Can the peas keep up with the car's speed?" Shen Zechuan and the others were skeptical.

In fact, the mutated animals have evolved in all aspects compared to before the apocalypse. Not only their size, but also their speed and strength have increased exponentially. So, it shouldn't be a problem for the pea to catch up with the car. Zhou Yang also wanted to take this opportunity to test how fast the pea could go.

“One of you can drive in front, and I’ll let Pea chase after the car. I also want to see how fast Pea can run now.”

Shen Zechuan stepped forward and said, "Then I'll do it. I'll drive the van around here, and you can have Wandou follow behind."

“Okay!” Zhou Yang said, handing over the car keys he had temporarily stored in his bag.

After taking the keys, Shen Zechuan got into the car, started the engine, and sped off.

"Pea, catch up with this car and try to overtake it!" Zhou Yang immediately patted Pea's head and gave instructions.

Upon hearing this, Pea immediately rushed out, leaving only a yellow afterimage for the few people who remained behind.

Zhou Yang and others: ...

This dog's speed seems ridiculously fast...
