Reborn in the Apocalypse: A Commoner's Survival Log
Chapter 28 Shen Zechuan
A dreamless night.
When Zhou Yang went to check on him again the next day, the man was still running a high fever and hadn't woken up yet. However, he seemed to be in much better condition than the night before. It seemed that the spring water and medicine were quite effective. Giving him another cup should do the trick, and he should wake up by tomorrow morning at the latest.
So Zhou Yang prepared another cup of spring water mixed with fever reducer and used the same method as last night to force-feed it to the man.
Unexpectedly, the man woke up in the evening.
The first one to be discovered was Pea, who was guarding the door to the second bedroom.
At that time, Zhou Yang was on the balcony researching how to grow vegetables.
After all, he had collected quite a few vegetable pots and flower stands before, and now that he had some free time at home, he naturally wanted to try planting them. As for the soil he used for planting vegetables, it was black soil that he took directly from his spatial storage, which was both convenient and fertile.
Because it's somewhat different from growing vegetables in a space, there's not enough room for the vegetable roots to absorb nutrients, so he grows the easiest-to-grow vegetables, such as scallions, garlic, lettuce, and garland chrysanthemum.
To improve the survival rate, he specially dug a space where seedlings that had already survived to plant, and then diluted some spring water to water them.
I had just finished planting a few rice seedlings and hadn't even had time to put the vegetable pots on the shelf when I heard the peas chirping.
Zhou Yang guessed that something might have happened to the man, so she quickly washed her hands, grabbed a machete, and rushed over, thinking that if the man turned into a zombie, she would just kill him.
Unexpectedly, as soon as he opened the door, he saw the man sitting on the ground, looking at him and then at the knife in his hand, his face full of vigilance and defensiveness, as if he would attack Zhou Yang at the slightest movement.
Unfortunately, the icy blue fever-reducing patches on his forehead and neck made him look somewhat comical.
Zhou Yang awkwardly moved the hand holding the knife behind him, rubbing his nose as he explained, "Well, I was just afraid you might turn into a zombie, so I was carrying the knife for self-defense, not to specifically cut you."
"I'll turn into a zombie?" The man was stunned, seemingly not quite understanding Zhou Yang's words.
“Yes, you hit the wall and passed out. When I found you, you were surrounded by zombies and almost got eaten. I didn’t know where you lived, so I could only take you back to my house. But you started having a high fever yesterday, which reached 42 degrees Celsius. I was really afraid you would burn to death and turn into a zombie, so I came here with a knife.”
"If I wanted to kill you, I would have done it already. Why would I save you?"
After Zhou Yang finished speaking, she rolled her eyes at the man.
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean that." The man awkwardly toned down his imposing manner. "By the way, my name is Shen Zechuan. Thank you so much for saving me. May I ask your name?"
"You're welcome! My name is Zhou Yang, Yang as in 'youyang' (悠漾). How are you feeling now?"
Shen Zechuan touched the wound on his forehead. It didn't hurt much, so it should be fine. He didn't feel feverish at all; on the contrary, he felt full of energy.
"I should be fine now, and I even feel a sense of comfort and strength in my body than before."
Upon hearing this, Zhou Yang understood that the man had awakened a superpower, but he couldn't openly mention that he had a superpower, so he could only make a cryptic joke: "Hahaha, you didn't awaken some superpower like the protagonist in a novel when you have a fever, did you?"
Shen Zechuan pondered for a moment, recalling the abnormal people he had seen earlier, and seriously considered this possibility. He did feel as if something had increased inside his body, but he didn't know how to verify it, so he had to put it aside for the time being and study it carefully later. Right now, the most important thing was to figure out his current situation.
He doesn't know where his phone is now, and he can't contact anyone, which makes him very anxious.
"Do you know what the situation is like outside? Also, have you seen my phone? I need to contact my family as soon as possible."
Zhou Yang thought for a moment and realized that he had brought his phone back with him, but he had thrown it into his spatial storage: "I picked up your phone, but I left it outside. Wait here for me, and I'll go get it for you. But it's probably out of battery."
After saying that, she turned around and went to the living room, then ran to a corner in the blind spot of the second bedroom to retrieve Shen Zechuan's phone.
Upon inspection, he found that the device had indeed run out of power and shut down. So he grabbed a compatible power bank.
Holding the man's phone and power bank, Zhou Yang then grabbed her own tablet and returned to the second bedroom.
"Your phone ran out of battery and shut down automatically, but I have a power bank here, so you can charge it first. If you want to check online news, you can use my tablet."
As he spoke, he handed over the things he was holding.
"Thank you, Zhou Yang!" Shen Zechuan accepted the items with both hands and thanked him sincerely. Then he picked up his phone to charge it before taking Zhou Yang's tablet to check online information.
The internet remains in complete chaos, with countless horrific scenes readily available. Traffic and public order in major cities have been completely paralyzed, a truly appalling sight.
The more Shen Zechuan looked, the more serious his expression became. The current situation was far from optimistic. He secretly rejoiced that he hadn't immediately chosen to return to the city center.
Is that doomsday prophecy post true?
Shen Zechuan naturally saw the so-called doomsday post. In the past, he would have scoffed at it, but now he had to believe that there might really be such a thing as metaphysics in this world.
"It's true, right? Otherwise, how do you explain zombies eating people? Anyway, I believe it. I even listened to the boss and prepared some supplies and weapons for self-defense in advance, otherwise I would have been in big trouble."
Zhou Yang uttered a few lies through his own eyes, then silently squatted to the side without saying a word.
Shen Zechuan fell silent after hearing this.
The air suddenly fell silent, and the atmosphere became awkward. Zhou Yang had no choice but to make small talk and continue chatting with the man.
Through the conversation, he learned that Shen Zechuan was not a local, but an investor doing business here. He had bought a villa in this community, although he rarely came to live there after it was renovated.
On the night of the heavy fog, he was discussing a collaboration with someone at the Financial Building in the city center. However, on his way back to his residence in the city center, the fog was so thick that he couldn't see the road clearly. After checking the traffic conditions, he found that all the roads to the city center were congested, so he decided to stay in this community for the night.
Halfway there, I suddenly felt unwell, so I had to pull over and try to find a designated driver on the app. But before I could even place an order, I passed out.
When he woke up again, he had a terrible headache and guessed he might have a slight fever. He also noticed that the pedestrians on the street were acting strangely; although they were walking, their postures were unsteady and their bodies were somewhat distorted. However, he didn't think much of it at the time.
He glanced at his phone and realized that two days had passed since he fainted. He hurriedly called his assistant, but no one answered. He then called the company's vice president, but still no one answered. He then called the administrative office, but still no one answered. He immediately realized something was wrong, so he started his car, intending to find a pharmacy to buy some fever reducers before going to the company.
As soon as it started, the figure that had been loitering in the distance suddenly roared and charged over. Its eyes were grayish-white, its features were distorted, and its face was covered in black blood vessels. The scene immediately reminded him of a scene from a zombie movie.
At that moment, they couldn't care less about anything else and drove straight into the residential area. They didn't dare to run directly into these people and could only try to avoid them.
As they approached the entrance to the residential area, they found several people standing there. Because the car was going too fast, they couldn't brake in time and had to swerve sharply, crashing into the wall and knocking the person unconscious. If Zhou Yang hadn't returned early and happened to be there, the person would probably have been zombie food.
