Reborn in the Apocalypse: A Commoner's Survival Log
Chapter 22 Free Purchase (2)
There is no day and night cycle in the space, so Zhou Yang always has to draw the curtains tightly shut whenever he sleeps there.
When I woke up, I was momentarily disoriented and didn't know what day it was.
Zhou Yang rested on the bed for a while until her mind cleared up a bit before slowly sitting up, rubbing her messy hair, and taking a shower first.
After washing up, I took out the ready-made breakfast to fill my stomach.
After finishing breakfast, I planned out today's schedule and then quickly left the space.
The outside was still shrouded in mist, looking gloomy.
I checked the time; it was still early, only a little past 8 a.m.
The world still appears peaceful and serene, the sun still obscured by thick fog, though the fog is thinner than it was yesterday.
The streets were deserted, with only the rustling of leaves in the gentle breeze.
Taking advantage of the last moments of peace before the apocalypse, Zhou Yang drove to an industrial park in the suburbs to begin his "zero-dollar purchase" journey.
Passing by the city library on his way, Zhou Yang felt a pang of regret, thinking about how all the books inside would be destroyed in the apocalypse. Moreover, the city library had a much richer and more diverse collection than small bookstores outside, with all sorts of books, and there should be quite a few practical books that he could use.
Rather than letting it gather dust here and eventually be destroyed, it's better for him to take it now and donate it to the base later.
He believes that once things stabilize in the later stages of the apocalypse, education will be valued again, and these books will become treasures for humanity.
However, the library had already closed, so Zhou Yang couldn't get in. He had no choice but to find a fire axe and break into a window on the first floor.
The library was very large, with five floors, and there was no one there at the moment.
I read the introduction at the entrance beforehand, and it said that there are more than 500,000 books inside, ranging from literary classics to agricultural, industrial and animal husbandry books, a dazzling array of everything.
For convenience, Zhou Yang simply took the bookshelf along with the books. He put literary classics in one corner, novels on another, and a separate pile of practical books that he might need, so that it would be easy for him to find books later.
It was an hour later when we finished collecting from the city library.
Zhou Yang didn't stop and immediately continued driving. Finally, at around 10 a.m., he arrived at Baijishan Industrial Park, the largest industrial park in the area.
The entire industrial park was quiet, and the outside was deserted, but there were definitely many people inside each factory area. You could tell by looking at the parking lots outside each factory area; they were packed with vehicles—pedicabs, electric bikes, cars…you name it.
The first shop at the park entrance is a garment factory. Following the usual practice of garment factories producing off-season clothing, this one should be making winter clothes right now.
Zhou Yang went straight to the warehouse and saw that it was full of winter clothes, both men's and women's, as well as a lot of children's clothes. Most of them were down jackets, but there were also quite a few leather coats and cashmere coats.
He wasn't picky; he accepted everything, regardless of quality or style. He figured he could exchange anything he didn't need for others.
After collecting the winter clothes, Zhou Yang went further inside and found that there were still a lot of summer and autumn clothes in stock. He also collected a lot of them into his space.
He also picked up a few sewing machines and a huge pile of fabric, thread, rivets, buttons, and the like. He planned that if he ever ran out of clothes after the apocalypse, he would try to learn tailoring and make his own.
He also visited the boss's office, but unfortunately, the owner was very unassuming, and being a woman, there were no cigarettes or alcohol. Aside from a little tea, there were more skincare products, cosmetics, and perfumes. Following the principle of not wasting anything, Zhou Yang took it all.
After leaving the garment factory, Zhou Yang went directly to the waterworks next door and collected half of the various bottled water bottles in stock. He also took quite a few empty bottles that had been recycled, which he could use to store gasoline and water, or even as containers for growing vegetables.
Before leaving, he also took two water filtration systems, as well as many water purifier tablets and other similar items. After the apocalypse, much of the surface water was polluted; it was unsafe to drink directly, let alone use for washing clothes. These filtration devices would be rare commodities in the future.
After that, Zhou Yang went to a third company. This one was a food processing plant.
The raw material warehouse contains a lot of syrup, honey, flour, rice, glutinous rice, etc. There is a separate cold storage room, which contains various vegetables, fruits, dairy products, and rice wine. At the end of the cold storage room, there is a freezer room used to store ice, as well as various meats and fish.
This inventory is equivalent to what Zhou Yang plundered from two fresh food supermarkets last week, but he still only took a portion of it. After all, he doesn't lack food; the inventory in his space is enough for him to eat for two lifetimes.
Next, he moved to the finished product warehouse, where he saw pallets piled high with packaged cardboard boxes. Fortunately, each box on the wooden pallet had a product label, otherwise he would have been really dizzy looking at them.
Upon closer inspection, it became clear that this food processing plant offered a wide variety of products: all sorts of bread, candy, sausages, potato chips, canned fruit, canned meat, canned fish... they had it all. Zhou Yang bought a portion of each kind.
Before leaving, after some consideration, Zhou Yang went to the production workshop and took away two canning production lines, one for fruit and one for meat.
In addition, he also took two vacuum packaging machines. Food is difficult to preserve in the apocalypse, so having these two items would be much more convenient. Moreover, he has several large generators in his space, which should be enough to keep things running as long as several production lines aren't operating simultaneously.
Behind the food processing plant are several cable factories.
Zhou Yang only took a hundred boxes of more durable copper wire Cat6 cable from the warehouse. He didn't take anything else because he didn't like it and couldn't use it all. The cable production line was of no use to him either.
He did take a liking to the two high-powered diesel engines that every cable factory had on hand. He didn't take more than two, just dismantled them and put them in his storage space as spares. Although the previous food processing plant also had a generator, he noticed that it was only connected to the cold storage room and probably would operate automatically during power outages, so he didn't touch it.
The generators at the cable factory here are not affected at all, and they can be taken without any burden.
Finally, Zhou Yang also smuggled all the metal raw materials in the raw material warehouse, such as copper wire, copper-clad aluminum, iron wire, and steel wire, into his spatial storage. It's important to know that metals are extremely scarce during infrastructure construction in the apocalypse; these can be used to exchange for points and resources later.
At one of the cable factories, Zhou Yang immediately noticed a Hummer and an off-road RV parked in the shed. His eyes lit up, and he quickly went to check out the boss's office.
Upon opening the door, one could see a large wine cabinet to the right of the boss's chair, shrouded in shade, filled with various high-end baijiu and red wines, as well as a large double-door refrigerator containing various teas and beverages. Zhou Yang didn't miss a single item and stored them all in his spatial storage.
Then I went to the boss's desk and looked around. Sure enough, I found several car keys. Since I couldn't tell which two keys belonged to which car was upstairs or downstairs, I just took them all. I tried them one by one downstairs, and after I figured them out, I put the car and keys into my storage space.
