Reborn in the Apocalypse: A Commoner's Survival Log

Chapter 144 The Battle Between Cats, Dogs, and Rats

When Zhou Yang and the other two returned to the Xu family's residence in Zone C, Yu Jing had already prepared a table full of food and was waiting for them, but Xu Qingtang and He Shanshan had not yet returned.

Upon entering the house, Xu Zhiyi looked around but didn't see the person he was looking for, so he asked, "Haven't Xiaotang and Shanshan returned yet?"

"No, the base hospital is quite busy. They often have to work overtime, so it's normal for them to be back late. I've already set aside a portion for them, so we don't need to wait for them. Let's eat first."

As Yu Jing spoke, she pulled out a chair and sat down first.

"OK then."

Xu Zhiyi visibly slumped down, then sat down next to Yu Jing.

Zhou Yang and Shen Zechuan exchanged a knowing glance before sitting down together.

Although the dinner wasn't as extravagant as the lunch table, it still had a good mix of meat and vegetables, and the portions were quite generous. As usual, the four of them ate everything up.

The peas and the little yellow peas licked the basin clean.

This time, Yu Jing wasn't asked to do anything; Zhou Yang and the other two took the initiative to wash the pots and pans.

After they finished their work, the door opened.

Yu Jing peeked out and saw that Xu Qingtang and He Shanshan had returned, so she quickly went out to greet them.

"You're back early today? Come and eat! You're in for a treat today, there's a big meal!"

"Oh? Brother Yanwen brought you something again today?"

When Xu Qingtang heard that there would be a big meal today, she subconsciously assumed that Lu Yanwen had sent some supplies again.

"No, no," Yu Jing shook her head repeatedly, "It's your two older brothers who are back!"

"Huh? They're back? Where are they?" Xu Qingtang heard that her two older brothers had returned and rushed into the house. When she saw Xu Zhiyi, she pounced on him.

Xu Zhiyi was lucky not to smash what he was holding.

He Shanshan, who was walking behind, closed the door, put the key away, and followed into the house. She bumped into Xu Zhiyi, who was carrying food and had a Xu Qingtang pendant hanging on his hand.

"Shanshan, you're back! Are you hungry? Let's eat first."

Xu Zhiyi put down the food, not even bothering to acknowledge his sister clinging to his arm and acting coquettishly. He forced a smile, looked at He Shanshan for a long time, and finally managed to utter this sentence.

He Shanshan was taken aback for a moment, then shook her head and smiled: "Long time no see, but why is your face so red? Is it hot in the room?"

She checked the temperature inside the room; it wasn't very high, and because the windows were open on both sides, there was a slight breeze blowing through.

Although it gets quite hot in the capital during the day (around 30 degrees Celsius), it gets quite cool at night.

"Ah, maybe it's because I have fire-based abilities, so I'm a bit hot." Xu Zhiyi rubbed the back of his neck, using his ability as a scapegoat.

He Shanshan nodded: "You have fire-type abilities, that explains it."

After Yu Jing brought out the other dishes from the kitchen, she immediately grabbed one for each of them, pressed them down to sit, and urged them to eat.

"Alright, alright, you two hurry up and eat first, it won't taste good if it gets cold. We can talk later."

After the two finished eating, Yu Jing went to clear the dishes, and the others sat down in the living room to chat about what had happened recently.

Xu Zhiyi had been wondering why only He Shanshan remained in the He family, but now he realized that the old man of the He family had not survived the virus attack and had directly mutated into a zombie, even biting her parents.

If it weren't for the oranges she had raised for 12 years saving He Shanshan, she might not have survived.

"By the way, where's the orange? Is it in your pocket?"

Xu Zhiyi grew up with He Shanshan, so he naturally knows Ju Zi as well.

"Here it is!"

As He Shanshan spoke, she casually pulled a small orange kitten out of her coat pocket. It was tiny, no bigger than the palm of her hand, and still half asleep. It didn't react when someone held it in their hand, which showed that it trusted its owner completely.

Xu Zhiyi stared in astonishment, then reached out and tapped the orange's little head: "It can shrink this much?"

Zhou Yang and Shen Zechuan also peeked over to take a look, and it really was quite tiny and cute.

"Isn't it amazing!" He Shanshan held the orange in her hands. "Don't underestimate it because it's small. It's fierce when it grows up, and it's as fast as lightning."

Seeing everyone staring at the little thing, Pea, who had been dozing off in the corner after eating, curiously followed along and sniffed it.

Hmm, it's smaller than a few little yellow mice, but it smells quite nice.

Orange was sleeping soundly when she suddenly sensed a familiar scent beside her, along with several unfamiliar smells she had never encountered before. So she yawned and decided to take a look.

Unexpectedly, as soon as I opened my eyes, I saw a yellowish-brown dog head that was trying to come closer in a cheeky manner, so I immediately threw a big bag at it.

The poor pea had barely sniffed the air when it was scratched for no reason and immediately started howling.

If it weren't for its tough fur after mutation, and the fact that the pea had undergone a second evolution, it would have gotten at least three more bloody cuts.

Seeing that Wandou had been scratched, Zhou Yang immediately hugged Wandou and checked her over. Fortunately, there were no wounds.

Pea, meanwhile, nestled her head in Zhou Yang's arms, looking aggrieved, and kept whimpering.

"I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" He Shanshan didn't expect Ju Zi to suddenly scratch someone's dog, so she could only apologize repeatedly. Then she turned to scold the kitten in her arms, "Ju Zi, how could you bully that little dog! You're 12 years old!"

Orange glanced disdainfully at the little puppy who was still cuddling with the two-legged creature, then flicked its tail and ignored it, starting to lick its front paws to wipe its face.

Hmph! What are you pretending to be, you're clearly more mutated than me. That last attack was like a tickle to me, and now you're trying to hide in your owner's arms and act cute. What trash!

Zhou Yang smiled and said, "It's alright, the peas aren't hurt either. They're just not familiar with each other yet, they'll get used to each other later."

But he didn't take it seriously, while the big and small yellow dogs couldn't stand seeing their leader being bullied.

After exchanging glances, they simultaneously vanished and charged at the little orange cat, one with a mouse and the other with a paw, completely stunning the orange cat.

After realizing what was happening, it screamed and instantly grew larger, transforming into a small tiger. Smelling the air, it unleashed several powerful punches at the surrounding air, leaving everyone stunned.

Zhou Yang was also stunned, then realized something, looked around, and sure enough, he didn't see Big Yellow and Little Yellow.

Alright! These little guys are definitely avenging their big brother, the pea...

Seeing that they couldn't beat the enlarged orange cat, the three cats, Big Yellow, Little Yellow, and Little Yellow, immediately jumped onto the others. The others felt something suddenly fall on them, but they couldn't see anything.

Just as I was wondering, Orange came chasing after me and threw a few cat punches at the air.

This time, because the attack was quite heavy, both Big Yellow and Little Yellow forgot to control their invisibility.

It was only then that everyone realized that the ones who attacked the oranges were three weasels.

He Shanshan and Xu Qingtang had just returned and hadn't noticed the three yet. They were so frightened that they trembled.

Seeing this, Zhou Yang immediately reassured them, "Don't be afraid. These three are also mutated animals that I raise. They are usually very well-behaved, but they are quite protective of their own. They might be avenging Pea."

Upon hearing this, the two girls breathed a sigh of relief, but seeing the three rats and one cat fighting fiercely, they didn't know how to mediate.

Zhou Yang was also having a bit of a headache. Just as he was about to tell Da Huang and Xiao Huang to stop, Wan Dou went in and added fuel to the fire.

It turned out that Pea saw that although his little brothers couldn't beat the kitten, he let out a howl and joined the battle, and even grew to the size of a medium-sized version.

Watching Pea grow from a tiny puppy into a dog bigger than a person, Yu Jing and the other two were speechless with astonishment.

The puppy... it wasn't a puppy after all...

With the addition of the pea, the area surrounded by the two-legged creatures became difficult to fight freely. So, the cats, dogs, and mice immediately moved their positions, fighting their way from the group to the balcony, and finally even running to the kitchen.

Wherever it went, cat fur danced, mice flew and dogs jumped, and the noise was deafening.

Finally, Zhou Yang couldn't take it anymore. He threw out Xiao Hu, tied the five sour beans up like meat dumplings, and gave each of them a flick on the forehead, which finally stopped the cat-dog-mouse war.

"If you hit one more, I'll stuff a lemon in each of your mouths. You're not allowed to sleep until you finish it!"

The orange, not understanding what was going on, was still trying to escape with its claws, but the vines were too tough and it was no use at all.

But the peas and yellow peas that had experienced the cheeky behavior all shrank their tails and immediately became as quiet as chickens, not daring to move an inch.
