The group went down the escalator and soon arrived at the first floor.

The entrance to the underground supermarket was right in front of them, but the doors were tightly closed. Only the light shining through the cracks in the doors indicated that the supermarket had not closed even when the apocalypse came.

Since the store hasn't closed yet, the reason the door is closed is very suspicious. As everyone knows, even evolved ordinary zombies don't know how to open or close doors; they just force their way in.

So either the door was closed by someone, or a zombie that has evolved intelligence or is a psychic zombie has emerged from among the zombies...

Tsk, if it's the latter, that would be troublesome.

Zhou Yang felt slightly irritated at the thought that there might be mentally-based zombies.

Mental zombies aren't strong in combat, but they can control their own kind to fight, and they're particularly good at hiding. As they grow older, they can even mentally attack human superhumans, making them extremely difficult to deal with. Almost all zombie attacks on human settlements are orchestrated by these mental zombies.

So if there really is a psychopathic zombie inside, then it must be nipped in the bud.

The group walked to the supermarket entrance, and as the doors opened, a dense swarm of zombies came into view. Anyone looking down at those thousands of zombie heads would likely experience trypophobia.

At this moment, the zombies were huddled together, each with its head bowed in silence, as if hibernating. It was unclear whether they were frozen due to the low temperature.

But have these zombies lost their sense of smell? They stood at the gate, no more than two meters away from the nearest zombie, yet they didn't make a sound. It was truly strange.

Chai Jin craned his neck curiously to look at the zombies in front of him: "What are they doing gathered here? They're not moving at all?"

"It must be too cold outside, so it hid here," Zhou Yang said after thinking for a moment.

He had heard from others in his previous life that many zombies would seek shelter in underground buildings during extremely cold weather and find places to hide from direct sunlight during extremely hot weather, because both wind and snow and scorching sun would cause great damage to the zombie's body.

"Damn, even zombies know how to feel cold, how strange!" Chai Jin noticed that the zombies didn't react, so he boldly took a few steps forward, wanting to observe them up close to see if they really weren't reacting.

Suddenly, the nearest zombie twitched its nose slightly, then its eyes rolled, and it slowly raised its head, only to see the human standing right in front of it.

Its stomach, which hadn't eaten for a long time, suddenly became excited. It opened its blood-red maw and roared out.

The shout startled Chai Jin, and Yan Fei behind him immediately threw out his throwing knife, sending the zombie to its death.

Even though Yan Fei moved quickly, the zombie's roar still woke up many of the zombies behind him.

One by one, the zombies began to awaken, slowly raising their slumped heads and sluggishly surveying their surroundings.

As more and more zombies woke up, and knowing that they would be surrounded by a group of zombies if they waited any longer, Zhou Yang didn't ask for anyone's opinion and picked up his crossbow to start shooting.

With a "whoosh," it struck one of the zombies right between the eyebrows.

Seeing Zhou Yang start to take action, the others quickly joined in to deal with the zombies.

Chai Jin was strong; with his Tang sword, he could take down a Karami with a single strike. Shen Zechuan and the others, on the other hand, used their supernatural abilities, and with a single wave of their hands, several zombies would fall to the ground at once.

As the group attacked, the zombies gradually regained consciousness. They smelled the scent of living people, and the zombies that were nearby began to howl and charge towards them.

However, since their bodies were still somewhat stiff from just waking up, their movements were not very agile, which gave Zhou Yang and the others some time to recover.

The zombies fell one after another, and those closer to Zhou Yang and the others were all killed.

Chai Jin, caught up in the heat of the moment, wanted to continue charging forward. Just as Zhou Yang was about to remind him, Yan Fei grabbed Chai Jin's arm.

"Wait, something's wrong with these zombies. They're howling, but they've stayed in the same spot the whole time, barely moving. It feels like they're guarding something..."

After saying that, he stared intently at the zombies gathered together, trying to discern something unusual.

Upon hearing this, Zhou Yang breathed a sigh of relief and greatly admired Yan Fei's observation skills and vigilance.

Sure enough, a top soldier is a top soldier; he was able to spot the problem immediately. If I gave him even a tiny hint, he'd probably figure it all out.

So Zhou Yang put down the crossbow bolt, then coughed lightly and said, "Do you think it's possible that there's also a superpowered zombie in here, the kind that can control other zombies to protect itself?"

Chai Jin exclaimed in surprise, not quite understanding: "Controlling other zombies to protect yourself? What kind of superpower is that? Control ability?"

“Control…mental ability?” Yan Fei muttered to himself, then suddenly remembered that among the abilities previously counted at the base, there was a rather special one—mental ability, which seemed to also have the function of controlling other people’s brain nerves.

Shen Zechuan had naturally heard of psychic abilities before, and upon hearing Yan Fei's guess, he couldn't help but frown: "If there really is a psychic zombie, that would be troublesome."

Xu Zhiyi adjusted his glasses with one finger, his eyes gleaming coldly as he looked at the zombie in front of him: "Then we must wipe out all these zombies to prevent future troubles. I think those zombie hordes described in apocalyptic novels are ultimately caused by psychic zombies."

"When did you start reading this kind of book?" Chai Jin turned to look at Xu Zhiyi in disbelief, his unfamiliar gaze as if he were seeing this person for the first time. "Didn't you used to say that this was all trash literature that would only lower your taste?"

Xu Zhiyi was taken aback by Chai Jin's words and quickly tried to save face: "Ahem, I was bored at home and borrowed Xiao Ye's tablet to read them. I was prejudiced before; actually, they are all very imaginative and practical good books..."

Chai Jin: “…”

Seeing the two bickering and giving each other a headache, Yan Fei interrupted them, saying, "Alright, stop joking. Let's hurry up and deal with them. Even if there are mental zombies inside, they're probably very weak right now, so we can only control these zombies to protect ourselves."

Shen Zechuan agreed with Yan Fei: "I think so too. We'll all attack together in a bit, but we shouldn't do close combat. If there are any psychic zombies, they might launch a psychic attack. Let's take care of these zombies on the perimeter from a distance first."

"it is good!"

The group agreed in unison, then raised their hands and began to attack. Even without Zhou Yang's reminder, Pea saw them make their move and immediately stepped forward to help.

Unable to engage in close combat, Chai Jin could only watch helplessly from behind, which was rather frustrating.

Zhou Yang then took out the heavy crossbow from his spatial storage, briefly explained its usage, and handed it to Chai Jin.

The weight of this heavy crossbow was like a small toy to Chai Jin; nocking an arrow and drawing the bow was effortless, making it perfect for him.

It was the first time using this, and my accuracy wasn't quite there yet. It took Chai Jin several shots before he got the hang of it.

As the zombies outside were shot down layer by layer, the zombies inside became increasingly agitated, baring their fangs and claws at the group, their roars growing louder.

The group remained unmoved and continued killing zombies.

After several minutes of tireless efforts, they finally managed to kill off only a few dozen zombies.

Just as the group was about to catch their breath and continue, the zombie hiding inside finally realized that its ordinary roars and physical threats were useless and that its danger was not over at all.

So they did the opposite, controlling the zombies to pounce on the group.
