Transmigration: A person in a martial arts world, cultivating to ascend to immortality
Chapter 89 Nighttime Murder
Among the five people, the leader was a middle-aged woman in her forties, and the four people following behind her, two men and two women, looked much younger.
All five of them looked very serious.
Qi Changqing glanced at them and immediately looked away, following Jiang Yuchuan past the five people and up the stairs.
As Qi Changqing passed by the five people, he clearly felt several scrutinizing gazes fall on him and follow him upstairs until he entered his guest room and closed the door, finally shutting himself out completely.
It's really unpleasant to be constantly watched.
Relieved, Qi Changqing remembered what Jiang Yuchuan had just said and asked, "The 'others' you mentioned, are you referring to the five men with swords downstairs?"
Jiang Yuchuan nodded slightly.
"These five people seem to be hiding from someone. If they move in, will they cause any trouble?" Qi Changqing's tone was tinged with worry.
Jiang Yuchuan smiled and said, "Even if there is trouble, it has nothing to do with us. Let's get some rest; we have to get up early to travel tomorrow."
"I understand sir."
Qi Changqing obediently responded, took off his backpack, removed his boots, and lay down on the bed.
Since the gentleman didn't seem to care, it meant there was no danger, so he stopped thinking about it.
Not long after, Qi Changqing fell into a deep sleep.
Jiang Yuchuan glanced at the sleeping Qi Changqing, got up, walked to the window, opened it, and looked through the darkness onto a distant hillside.
This night is sure to be quite lively.
Time passed slowly, and the night grew darker.
Jiang Yuchuan, who was sitting cross-legged on the bed meditating with his eyes closed, suddenly twitched his ears, and then the corners of his mouth curled up slightly.
In the dimly lit lobby of the inn, a cluster of firelight suddenly rose, illuminating the figures of the waiter and the chef.
The two men, each holding a boning knife, tiptoed toward the gate.
After quietly opening the door, the waiter poked his head out, looked around, and then, in a high-pitched voice, imitated a crow cawing three times.
A moment later, seven figures wielding sharp weapons emerged from the darkness.
These seven people were the guests from the two tables that had left earlier.
After all seven people arrived, the chef stepped forward and made several complicated hand gestures. Then, he looked greedily at the three guest rooms on the second floor that were next to each other and made a throat-slitting gesture.
The group understood, their faces showing a mixture of nervousness and excitement. They gripped their weapons tightly and carefully followed the cook and waiter upstairs.
Upon arriving at the doors of the first, second, and third guest rooms, the group did not immediately break down the doors. Instead, they took out a sleeping powder from their pockets and blew it through the crack in the door.
After the smoke cleared and they waited quietly for a while, the nine men split into three groups, raised their weapons, pushed open the door, and rushed inside.
To their surprise, the moment they entered, they were greeted by several sword lights that had been hidden in the shadows and were ready to strike.
After a brief fight, only three people, covered in wounds, rolled out of the house, leaped downstairs, and desperately fled the inn.
Just as the four men with swords rushed out of the house and were about to give chase, they heard a shrill scream from outside. Then they saw two of the three who had just run out tumbling back, their faces filled with panic.
"Help! Help—help me!"
"So many—so many bugs!—Ah!"
The two had barely stepped into the inn when they collapsed to the ground, desperately clutching their bodies and screaming in agony. A few breaths later, they were dead.
The sudden turn of events startled all four of them.
The next instant, the four of them saw through the moonlight that dozens of black spiders, each the size of a fingernail, were crawling densely all over the bodies of the two who had died tragically.
"What a poisonous spider!"
Sun Zhuqin's expression changed involuntarily.
Tong Mu gripped his longsword tightly, looking solemnly towards the door. "These poisonous spiders don't appear out of nowhere. It seems we haven't shaken off those people!"
"Now how to do?"
Che Zhanhong had a growing sense of unease.
Standing behind the three, Cai Yingmei whispered, "Should we call Elder Tang and leave here immediately?"
"It's too late!" Tang Yan walked out of the house and stood in front of the four people. "This inn has been surrounded."
"Then let's fight our way out!" Sun Zhuqin said bitterly, "Anyway, we're already sworn enemies with the Demonic Cult!"
"That's all it can do!"
Tang Yan still can't figure out exactly when their whereabouts were exposed and they were targeted by this group of demonic cultists.
"Gentlemen, why don't you show yourself now? Do I have to personally invite you out?"
A sinister voice rose from the darkness of the night.
Following closely behind was the rustling sound of countless insects crawling rapidly.
Only then did Tong Mu and the other three realize that the "surrounded" Tang Yan referred to were not people, but these venomous insects crawling and lurking in all directions.
They would rather be surrounded by people than by these poisonous insects.
Just by looking at the way those two people died downstairs, you can tell how potent the venom of these insects is. Even a single, accidental bite could be fatal!
"I remember there were two other people staying at the inn." For some reason, Cai Yingmei suddenly remembered the two figures, one tall and one short, that she had seen when she arrived, and suggested with a hint of guilt, "Should we tell them to run away quickly?"
After all, if anything were to happen to these two tonight, it would be entirely because of them, and they would suffer an undeserved calamity.
Che Zhanhong glanced at Cai Yingmei. "Even if we notified them, what then? Surrounded by these poisonous insects, can we really expect them to escape unscathed?"
"You four be careful, I'm going out to meet that guy!"
After throwing down the evidence, Tang Yan jumped off the second floor and strode towards the door.
She could sense that outside the house at that moment, besides the swarm of poisonous insects, only the person who had spoken earlier was present.
"It's too dangerous! How can we let Elder Tang face the enemy alone!"
When Sun Zhuqin saw Tang Yan walk out of the inn alone, she immediately felt anxious and prepared to rush out after her.
"Junior Sister Sun, don't be impulsive!" Tong Mu stopped Sun Zhuqin. "Elder Tang must have her reasons for doing this. We must trust Elder Tang's abilities. Even if Elder Tang encounters some danger, it won't be too late for us to rush out to help!"
Sun Zhuqin thought about it and felt that Tong Mu's words made sense, so she stopped insisting on going out.
"We need to think of a way to deal with these poisonous insects!" Che Zhanhong said solemnly. "If we don't get rid of them, our fate tonight will probably be no better than that of the two below!"
Cai Yingmei's gaze fell once again on the two people who had died tragically, foaming at the mouth and with purplish-black faces. Her face turned several shades paler instantly, and at the same time, a churning sensation came from her stomach.
Even if she dies, she shouldn't die such a gruesome death.
"Why don't we call the other two out and come up with a solution together? More people means more ideas. Anyway, we're all under the same roof now, and no one can escape this situation of being surrounded."
Tong Mu nodded, just about to agree with Cai Yingmei's suggestion, when he first heard a loud "boom" from outside.
"Elder Tang has started fighting that person!"
As soon as Sun Zhuqin finished speaking, the other three heard the dense, crawling sound again, getting closer and closer.
"Oh no!" Che Zhanhong exclaimed, "Those poisonous insects are about to rush in!"
Tong Mu had a sudden inspiration: "Quickly, light a fire! Insects should be afraid of fire! We can use fire to deal with them!"
