Quick Transmigration: I Actually Became a System Bug
Chapter 407 The Young Master and the Passerby in the Real World 26
The next morning, before dawn, Ji Han was already up. He had no choice but to get up; the fire in the stove had long since gone out, and the warmth of the kang (heated brick bed) beneath him had dissipated. Since sleeping curled up wasn't comfortable anyway, Ji Han was too lazy to reheat the kang. He simply put on his down jacket, slung the backpack he had brought back the day before over his shoulder, opened the door, and went outside.
"Hey, when did you get back, Ahan? Why are you up so early?"
"Hey, Second Grandpa, I came back in the middle of the night yesterday. I couldn't sleep, so I got up. Why are you up so early too, Second Grandpa?"
"As people get older, they need less sleep and can't stay in bed any longer, so they get up."
In fact, there are many elderly people who get up early like my second grandfather. In winter, there is no work in the fields, so these elderly people either make breakfast or go out for a walk after getting up. Therefore, Ji Han has been talking non-stop all the way.
Lishan Village is not a large village, with fewer than 100 households now. Most of the villagers came here to escape during wartime, so the surnames in the village are diverse and the clan concept among the villagers is relatively weak. This is one of the reasons why Lishan Village is located in a high-end retirement area.
Ji Han carried his bag and first went to the only small shop in the village. When he arrived, the shop was just opening. After going in, he bought two packs of cigarettes, two bottles of wine, and a carton of milk, and then went to the village chief's house at the east end of the village.
Although the village chief's house wasn't the best in the entire Lishan Village, it was still among the top few. It had a high wall, with two large iron gates standing in the southeast corner. There was also a small door at the bottom of the right iron gate, which was currently wide open.
Ji Han passed through the small gate and the main gate before entering a spacious courtyard. A wide stone path ran through the middle of the courtyard, with neatly planned vegetable gardens to the west and a nearly new tractor parked to the east.
At the end of the stone-paved path was a balcony more than a meter wide, and further ahead were five spacious brick and tile houses facing south. Ji Han paused for a moment in front of the balcony.
"Grandpa Village Chief, are you home?"
The old village chief is about the same age as Grandpa Ji. In fact, he is also close to retirement age. However, the next generation in the village is not up to par, and so far no one has been able to take over the old village chief's position. Therefore, in every village election, the final candidate for village chief is still the old village chief.
Upon hearing Ji Han's voice, a series of coughs came from inside the room.
"Ahem, I'm here. Who is it? Come in."
Ji Han then crossed the balcony, pushed open the door to the main room, and went inside. As he entered, he bumped into the old village chief coming out of the inner room.
"Oh, Xiaohan, when did you get back? Come in, come in quickly."
Then, as if only then noticing what Ji Han was holding, the old village chief looked at him with a reproachful expression.
"Look at you, what are you doing? You're a perfectly good child, you've only been away from school for half a year and you've already started to go astray. You're taking all your things back home the same way you brought them here."
Ji Han chuckled and put the things on the cabinet in the main room. As for taking them back, that was out of the question.
"Grandpa Village Chief, I rushed back as soon as I received your call in City B. I haven't been back to our village for the past six months, so I don't know what's going on here. What exactly is this situation you were talking about on the phone?"
The old village chief had nothing to hide, after all, he was the one who called the person back. To be honest, compared to Ji Han's parents, those two good-for-nothings who neither supported their parents nor their children, the old village chief naturally preferred the child in front of him who had been well-behaved, sensible, filial to his elders, and academically excellent since childhood.
