Chapter 43 The Shocking Change in the Spirit Void
Hongli said in a deep voice, "Little Swallow, don't rush. We should think of a way to break through this encirclement first."
At this moment, the Lingxu Cult members surrounded them, each holding a weapon and with fierce eyes.
One of the followers shouted, "You can't escape today! Hand over the jade pendant!"
Little Swallow glared at them angrily: "You bunch of scoundrels, you don't deserve to know the secret of this jade pendant!"
Hongli whispered to Xiaoyanzi, "Judging from the situation, we can't fight them head-on. I'll distract them, and you find a chance to escape and find General Zhaohui."
Little Swallow said anxiously, "No! Fourth Prince, we must go together. How can I abandon you?"
Hongli felt a warmth in his heart: "Silly girl, if we are all trapped here, who will uncover the conspiracy behind this? Listen to me, let's go quickly."
After saying that, Hongli suddenly rushed towards the believers on the side, brandishing his long sword, which forced everyone to take a few steps back.
Little Swallow gritted her teeth, turned around, and rushed off in another direction. But she hadn't gone far when she was blocked by several cultists.
"Trying to run? Not so easy!" the cult member said menacingly.
Little Swallow brandished the martial arts she inherited from the original owner of the body and began fighting the cultists. "You lot, watch how I deal with you!"
On Hongli's side, although he had temporarily blocked some of the believers, the sheer number of them made things difficult. "Damn it, these Lingxu Cult members are really troublesome."
Little Swallow shouted as she hit him, "Fourth Prince, hang in there!"
Suddenly, a hidden arrow shot towards Xiao Yanzi. "Watch out!" Hongli exclaimed, forcefully shaking off the enemies around him and rushing towards Xiao Yanzi.
Fortunately, Xiao Yanzi was agile and dodged the hidden arrow. "Thank you, Fourth Prince, you almost scared me to death."
"We can't stay here any longer; we need to think of something," Hongli said, frowning.
Just then, they noticed that one part of the encirclement seemed to be slightly weaker in defense.
"Over there, let's charge over there!" Little Swallow shouted.
The two worked together to break through the encirclement. After a fierce battle, they finally fought their way out.
They ran wildly through the Lingxu Cult's lair, with cult members hot on their heels.
"This place is like a maze, we mustn't get lost," Little Swallow said breathlessly.
Hongli looked around and said, "There must be something fishy about this arrangement. It might be related to that jade pendant."
They ran to a fork in the road.
"Should we go left or right?" Little Swallow asked anxiously.
Hongli pondered for a moment: "The left side, I feel there might be a way out on the left side."
But they hadn't gone far when a stone gate appeared in front of them, blocking their way.
"What should we do?" Little Swallow pushed the stone door with all her might, but the stone door did not budge.
Hongli examined the stone gate carefully and found some strange patterns carved on it. "These patterns seem to be somewhat similar to the murals in the Shadow Pavilion that we saw before."
Little Swallow leaned closer: "Really? Does that mean we can open the stone door by deciphering these patterns?"
Hongli nodded: "Very likely."
They began to study the patterns on the stone gate, but then the footsteps of the worshippers grew closer.
"They're catching up soon, Fourth Prince, hurry!" Little Swallow was extremely anxious.
Hongli broke out in a cold sweat: "This pattern is complex; I need some time."
Just as the believers were about to arrive, Hongli suddenly shouted, "I understand!"
He pressed several patterns in a certain order, and the stone door slowly opened.
"Hurry!" The two rushed through the stone gate.
Behind the stone gate was a long passage, at the end of which there was a sliver of light.
"There's hope! Let's go!" Little Swallow said excitedly.
But when they reached the end of the passage, they found themselves in a room full of traps and mechanisms.
"What kind of place is this?" Little Swallow looked at the mechanisms around her, her scalp tingling.
Hongli proceeded cautiously: "Be careful, there are traps everywhere here."
They had only taken a few steps when the paving stones beneath their feet suddenly shifted, nearly causing them to sink in.
"Oh dear! How are we going to get across?" Little Swallow exclaimed.
Hongli picked up a pebble and threw it forward. The pebble triggered a mechanism, and several arrows shot out.
"It seems we can only get through by relying on our agility," Hongli said.
Little Swallow took a deep breath: "Okay, let's give it a shot!"
They carefully navigated the maze of traps, each step fraught with peril.
"Left!" "Right!" The two reminded each other, and with their tacit understanding and courage, they gradually approached the other side of the room.
Finally, they successfully passed through the mechanism room and entered a secret room.
The secret room contained some ancient books and a strange box.
"This box looks very unusual," Little Swallow said curiously as she approached it.
Hongli picked up a book and began to peruse it: "It seems to record the connection between the Lingxu Sect and the Shadow Pavilion, as well as the true purpose of this jade pendant."
Little Swallow opened the box, inside was a fragment of a jade pendant similar to the ones they held. "Fourth Prince, look, can this fragment be pieced together with ours?"
Hongli put down the book, took the fragment and paired it with the jade pendant in his hand; they matched perfectly.
Just then, some light and shadow suddenly appeared on the walls of the secret room, as if telling an ancient story.
"This is..." Little Swallow looked at the light and shadow in surprise.
Hongli stared intently: "This seems to be a legend about a mysterious power that can control the world, and this jade pendant is the key to it. Both the Shadow Pavilion and the Spirit Void Sect are pursuing this power."
"We can't let them succeed," Little Swallow said firmly.
Suddenly, the door to the secret room slowly closed.
"Oh no, we're trapped!" Little Swallow ran to the door in a panic and pounded on it.
Hongli searched everywhere for a mechanism to open the door: "There must be a way out. Let's keep looking."
They searched the secret room carefully, leaving no corner unchecked.
"Could the patterns on this wall be some kind of mechanism?" Little Swallow asked, pointing to a wall.
Hongli went over to check: "It's possible, let's give it a try."
Following the clues in the patterns on the wall, they fiddled with some of the objects in the secret room.
Finally, the door to the secret room opened again.
"We're finally out! We can't let them catch us again," Little Swallow said.
They emerged from the secret chamber only to find themselves once again surrounded by Lingxu cult followers.
"Do you think you can escape?" The leader of the Lingxu Sect appeared and said coldly.
Hongli shielded Xiaoyanzi behind him: "Master, what is your purpose in going to such lengths to find the jade pendant?"
The cult leader laughed loudly: "This jade pendant is related to the power of the world. If you hand it over obediently, I may spare your lives."
Little Swallow peeked out from behind Hongli: "Don't even think about it! We won't let you use this jade pendant for anything bad."
With the two sides locked in a stalemate, another major battle is about to erupt. Whether they can break through again, and how they can stop the Lingxu Sect's conspiracy, remains to be seen and is fraught with unknowns and challenges.
Their adventure in the Lingxu Cult's lair continues, every step a matter of life and death, and inextricably linked to the great secret behind the Shadow Pavilion murals.
