Reborn in the Entertainment Industry: Second Life

Chapter 145 Echoes of Maple Bridge

Bo Bing's nosebleed had stopped. She was wearing a floral shirt with local characteristics and was sitting in the back seat of He Jinlan's car with Bai Zixiu, heading to the film set for a rehearsal with the rest of the group.

The film set is still setting up equipment and testing various film and television instruments.

— It's like a mini script reading session, to warm up the audience and get them into the swing of things.

Bo Bing and Bai Zixiu were only there to get a feel for the role. Director Wang Chang wanted to see Bo Bing's skills first. If Bo Bing's performance was not up to par with the role he was assigned, then for the sake of the film, Wang Chang could give Yin Su a legitimate explanation.

Wang Chang might not care as much about actors from other investors, but the role Bo Bing got was no small one. With the backing of Yin Su and Tianci Entertainment, Wang Chang had extended the offer two months ago.

However, Bo Bing successfully jumped off the building and escaped, but unexpectedly did not sign a contract to sell himself to Tianci. Yin Su could not contact him either, so he had to give up at the time. Unexpectedly, not long ago, Yin Su brought up the matter again. Wang Chang happened to not have found a suitable actor yet, so he just said to let him come and try.

Anyway, during filming in Southeast Asia, this character didn't have many scenes, and the script was cut quite a bit due to its high level of difficulty.

If that doesn't work out, Wang Chang still has time to find alternatives. After all, several assistant directors under Wang Chang have already selected a few actors, but each has its own strengths and weaknesses, and none of them quite match the feeling that screenwriter Wu Mu described.

Wang Chang and Yin Su had arrived long ago. Several assistant directors and screenwriter Wu Mu were also packing up their things. The remaining actors from the Wang Family Troupe were also in place. Bo Bing looked around and found that they were mostly veteran actors. Some were warming up, some were memorizing their lines, and some were hanging on wires to get a feel for the action. The martial arts instructor was demonstrating the moves to the actors.

Bo Bing recognized it as a Muay Thai move, and while he was thinking, he heard Bai Zixiu ask him a question.

"Who is your character?" He didn't know Bo Bing's script either, and their characters weren't paired together.

"Southern Fist, Hu Shengchuan."

Bo Bing stared at the script rehearsal that had already begun on the field, and out of the corner of her eye, she noticed that even Yin Su had picked up a script, his brows slightly furrowed, as if he was thinking about the plot.

A sudden, inexplicable feeling of tension washed over me.

Perhaps it was the sudden sense of pressure that made even good students dare not let their guard down.

"You've memorized the script?" Bai Zixiu asked listlessly, taking a sip of the water provided by the crew. His jealousy was undisguised. "It's so easy to have a powerful backer. Looks like he's not a minor character."

“It’s all action scenes,” Bo Bing said without arguing, and took out her phone to continue reviewing the script.

He wasn't wrong. This character doesn't have many dramatic scenes; most of the scenes are a combination of action and dialogue. He didn't hide it, saying, "I've memorized the script, but I just can't feel the emotions."

This wasn't a lie; his brain was still buzzing.

Memorizing the script is one thing, understanding the emotions within it is another, and performing it is yet another—he, a self-taught amateur, really couldn't quite figure it out.

The main plot of "Echoes of Maple Bridge" is not complicated.

The sudden deaths of two renowned martial arts masters cast a shadow over the Major Crimes Unit. Both victims were highly respected masters of their respective schools, and their deaths were not caused by armed conflict. Neither of them had any history of involvement in economic disputes, making the pursuit of the killer fraught with doubts.

Just as the investigation reached a stalemate, Zhang Feng (Wei Yang), a seemingly disheveled one-armed man, approached police officer Wang Lanyue (Zhang Yiyi), claiming that the man was not seeking revenge and that he could assist the police in investigating the case and bringing him to justice. Meanwhile, Cui Ye (Yin Su) continued to seek out and challenge masters from various martial arts schools...

Yin Su and Wei Yang's scenes together were outstanding. Even Bo Bing had to admit that Yin Su's acting skills were truly worthy of an award-winning actor. With just a simple opening stance and a fierce look in his eyes, he could convey the oppressive feeling of a powerful villain without even changing his appearance.

His opponent, Wei Yang, was also a winner of the Golden Flower Award, the Red Flower Award, and the Pegasus Award. He was a genuine Wing Chun disciple and one of Wang Chang's personal "henchmen." He started his career in martial arts and later practiced various other martial arts styles. He had appeared in Wang Chang's previous film.

This was the first time the two had acted together, and although their coordination in terms of moves wasn't quite polished yet, it was still quite impressive.

Both actors are highly skilled in dramatic scenes, earning high praise from Wu Mu.

Soon it was time for Bai Zixiu's scenes with his team. Bai Zixiu played Ji Yun, a disciple of the Golden Mantis Sect. The leader of the Golden Mantis Sect was the first master to die suddenly in his home. Ji Yun then briefly came into contact with Zhang Feng's investigation team to investigate the cause of his master's death.

Bai Zixiu chose to perform the segment he was most satisfied with, which showed that he had put in a lot of effort. Suspended by wires, Bai Zixiu chose a scene that included both dialogue and action. Although it did not meet Wang Chang's strict expectations, it was at least considered acceptable, and he was not scolded by Wang Chang.

Bo Bing looked at Yin Su, who was calmly exchanging ideas with the actors, and the actors who were looking disheveled and flipping through the script after being scolded by Wang Chang. The inexplicable tension in her heart intensified.

I'm about to faint.

Why did I agree to come here with Yin Su?

Bo Bing's hands were covered in sweat.

—She didn't want Yin Su to see her in such an embarrassing state.

So much so that before going on stage, Bo Bing even forgot to ask the props team to bring her a safety harness.
