Chapter 292

"The seventh son of the Jin family?"

Lu Hui frowned, subconsciously looking at his actions of protecting An Jiuxi.

That's when I remembered An Jiuxi's relationship with the Jin family.

A hint of difficulty flashed across his face.

Standing behind the man, An Jiuxi calmed herself down and tugged at his sleeve. "Lu Hui is the deputy director of the Special Administration Bureau. He gave the mirror to An Yuwei. I'm afraid there might be something wrong with the mirror."

Her voice was soft, only audible to Jin Yize.

Jin Yize's gaze swept over the bronze mirror held in An Yuwei's hand, then met Lu Hui's angry stare. "Deputy Director Lu, I'm afraid you can't guarantee that the mirror won't make a mistake!"

Lu Hui was taken aback and subconsciously glanced at An Yuwei.

An Yuwei panicked instantly, and frowned as she argued, "Seventh Master Jin, are you deliberately changing the subject to exonerate my sister?"

"My master's mirror has never made a mistake before, so why does it malfunction when used with An Jiuxi?"

Jin Yize sneered, "That's because it wasn't in your hands before."

Everyone understood the meaning behind those words.

An Yuwei's face darkened, and she looked at Lu Hui with a wronged expression, "So both Master Jin and my sister think I would do something underhanded?"

Even if she tampered with it, so what? They won't be able to detect it anyway!

The only one who could sense that something was wrong was her master!

How could Lu Hui not help him!

"Whether there's been any tampering or not, I can tell just by looking." Lu Hui stepped forward with a dark expression and reached out his hand to An Yuwei.

Just as the mirror was about to be handed to Lu Hui, it was taken away by someone else first.

"Why don't you let me take a look?"

Si Tang smiled faintly at the master and apprentice, but his eyes darkened when he caught a glimpse of the panic in An Yuwei's eyes.

Upon hearing this, Lu Hui merely frowned but remained silent.

“But, Director, don’t you also like An Jiuxi?” An Yuwei asked anxiously, drawing dissatisfaction from many people around her.

But she was right.

"If you think I would do anything to favor others, then you don't understand me."

Si Tang coldly uttered a sentence, and poured spiritual energy into the mirror from his hand.

The light shone on An Jiuxi again.

This time the spiritual energy was much gentler, and by the time An Jiuxi opened her eyes, the surrounding magic array had been deactivated.

Immediately afterwards, light refracted in the mirror.

The words above read: Qualified!

Now, everyone's gazes toward An Yuwei and Lu Hui were particularly varied.

Lu Hui was shocked. "Impossible! There's something wrong with her. Si Tang, did you tamper with the records?!"

Upon hearing his old friend's question, Si Tang silently glanced at An Yuwei.

The latter felt guilty and dared not meet his gaze.

Si Tang snorted coldly and threw the mirror at Lu Hui, "Don't you know who tampered with the records?"

Lu Hui paused, his hand holding the mirror still.

"It seems the mirror has been in disrepair for years and has developed a defect."

This excuse was far-fetched, and everyone noticed the way Si Tang's eyes were looking in that direction.

However, because of Lu Hui's position, they couldn't show their disdain on their faces.

They had no choice but to play along and give a vague answer.

Even so, the gazes directed at An Yuwei were no better!

"Ah."

An Jiuxi sneered, "Does Deputy Director Lu mean that everything he did to me just now was a misunderstanding?"

If Jin Yize hadn't appeared in time and used the magical artifact she gave him to block Lu Hui's spiritual energy...

I'm afraid she's already lifeless!

The dead can no longer die!

Lu Hui really didn't want to stay here any longer, after all, his apprentice had made such an obvious move in front of so many people!
