Chapter 25 Adventure
"What book are you looking for?" Liang Qing gripped the mouse, ready to help him search.
"I do not know yet."
"Um?"
"I'm here on an adventure," Song Zhiji said half-jokingly.
"Adventure?" Liang Qing found his childish question quite amusing. She smiled and asked, "How so?"
"Come with me." Song Zhiji took her hand from the mouse and led her to a bookshelf, placing her hand on a row of books. "Do you want this book?"
He asked her this out of the blue.
Liang Qing didn't know his intention, but she honestly shook her head and replied, "I don't want to."
As soon as she said it, she felt a little annoyed. Should she have said that she wanted to? Perhaps Song Zhiji's "adventure" was related to this book. Wouldn't saying that she didn't want to embarrass him?
But Song Zhiji's reaction was unexpected. He wasn't angry or dejected. Instead, he looked at her intently and asked, "Why?"
Liang Qing thought for a moment and finally replied, "I don't know the name of this book, nor its contents, nor even the author. I can't find any reason to want it."
After she finished speaking, she pointed to her hand. Song Zhiji pressed her hand down, preventing her from moving it away, stubbornly refusing to let the book reveal any of its contents.
"I'm sorry." Song Zhiji released her hand, and the title of the book appeared before Liang Qing's eyes.
"You like detective novels?" Liang Qing pulled out the book, flipped through the pages, and glanced at it.
“No,” Song Zhiji replied.
Liang Qing looked up, puzzled.
"You want to ask me why I brought you to this book?"
Liang Qing nodded.
"This is my adventure." A warm smile appeared on Song Zhiji's lips, so much so that Liang Qing couldn't bear to interrupt his happiness.
He closed his eyes under Liang Qing's gaze, his fingers tracing the books on the shelves. Liang Qing did not stop him, but watched him intently as he took a step, afraid that he might bump into something or fall because his eyes were closed.
But she soon realized she was overthinking it. Song Zhiji was clearly very familiar with the layout of the place. Although he walked slowly, he was very steady, just like walking with his eyes open.
As Liang Qing followed him toward the next bookshelf, he suddenly stopped, reached up and groped around, then pulled out one of the books.
"Liang Qing, I found it." Song Zhiji had already opened his eyes. He turned around and waved the book in his hand at Liang Qing, like a child showing off his favorite toy to a friend. Then he added a little embarrassedly, "Don't you think I'm childish?"
"No, I'm just a little surprised."
"surprise?"
"I always thought you were a very meticulous person."
“Oh,” Song Zhiji turned to the side, lowered his head, and asked in a low voice, “Then do you think it would be better if I were more meticulous?”
"No, no one has the right to interfere with how people choose to live their lives."
After saying this, a sentence suddenly flashed through Liang Qing's mind—as long as what you do doesn't harm others, then everything is your freedom.
But who said that?
She shook her head, deciding not to think about it anymore. Perhaps it was her past self, or something she saw in that book, or maybe just some passerby.
But it has nothing to do with her. She is no longer herself; she has come back to this world as a mission taker.
You should do what you are supposed to do based on your status.
"I'm so happy to hear you say that." Song Zhiji walked towards her with light steps.
"How was your adventure today?" Liang Qing smiled and asked him if he was satisfied with the book.
“It’s hard to say right now,” Song Zhiji said, leading her to the cashier to pay. “We’ll only know once we’ve read the book.”
"What if it's a bad book? Will you be disappointed?"
"Life has its good and bad moments; the question is how you choose to view it. For me, there are no bad books, nor are there good books."
"You've really confused me."
"Perhaps I'm being a little strange." After paying the bill, Song Zhiji put the book in his bag. "I'll take you home."
Liang Qing knew that Song Zhiji could be quite persistent in certain aspects, so after declining several times without success, she finally agreed.
Stepping out of the bookstore, I realized that even the last rays of the setting sun had disappeared, and the bright moonlight was clearly not enough to illuminate the vast land. The streetlights were illuminating the road to the bus stop.
There were still many people on the street, and it seemed even noisier at night than at dusk, only the people were different.
The bus stop Liang Qing was going to was located right between the bookstore and the school road, and the two arrived in a short while.
Liang Qing hadn't had time to move yet, so she was still living in that basement. The basement was far from here, so not many people took this bus.
"Do you have a bus pass?" Liang Qing asked, thinking that Song Zhiji was usually driven around in his family car.
“I have one.” Song Zhiji took out his bus card from his pocket and added, “Occasionally on Saturdays and Sundays, when I want to be alone, I’ll take the bus and go for a walk.”
After swiping their cards, the two sat down in the back row.
"I live a bit far away, it might take an hour to get here," Liang Qing said apologetically to Song Zhiji.
"You already said that once when you rejected me," Song Zhiji said with a nonchalant smile.
He seemed to be smiling more than usual today.
Is this his true self?
Somewhat childish, yet very innocent.
Liang Qing rested his hand on the window, his face buried in his hands, deep in thought. What method could he use to raise Song Zhiji's favorability rating to 90?
At that very moment, just before the bus started moving, another person got on.
With a "beep," Liang Qing, lost in thought, subconsciously looked towards the card reader. A tall boy put his bus card in his pocket and was walking towards an empty seat. He was wearing a white short-sleeved shirt and white jeans, with a black vest over the shirt, which was not buttoned up and was casually draped over his shoulders. The only thing that seemed out of place was the scratch on his right cheek.
Qin Zhouyu, what's he doing here?
Liang Qing unconsciously lowered her hand, sat up straight, and when she saw Qin Zhouyu looking in her direction, she inexplicably held her breath. But Qin Zhouyu seemed not to see her. After giving her a cursory glance, he sat down in the nearest empty seat.
Just then, a force suddenly pressed down on her shoulder. Liang Qing turned her head and saw that Song Zhiji had fallen asleep at some point and was resting his head on her shoulder in a daze.
Liang Qing didn't push him away, and let him sleep on her shoulder the whole way.
Liang Qing was seated in a position that allowed her to see everyone in front of her.
Whenever Liang Qing looked ahead, Qin Zhouyu would automatically come into her view. He wasn't playing on his phone or looking out the window; he was just sitting quietly in his seat.
Of course, he never looked back.
