Ugly girl only wants to farm

The villagers only get a day or two off during the Spring Festival. On weekdays, they still have to do chores around the house. Since there's not much to do in the fields during this time, the Meng family started weaving bamboo products in their courtyard as usual, and Meng's father became even more enthusiastic.

Xu Chaoyan dreaded the cold winter days the most. She didn't want to go out during the winter and would stay huddled around the fire all day.

Meng Jiuxia teased him several times, saying that she was like a cat warming itself by a fire in the cold weather. The cat's fur was so dry that it was almost curled up, and she was very dry. There was nothing she could do. She used to be from the south and had never felt this cold before. Finally, spring arrived and the weather warmed up, and she felt much more energetic. She had been thinking about getting Meng Jiuhe a wheelchair so that everyone wouldn't have to help her move things around. After telling Meng's father about this idea, she decided to get him a wheelchair.

After a moment of silence, Meng's father spoke: "There is a carpenter in the village, but you said this work is quite delicate. I don't know if he can do it. Why don't we go and ask him another day?"

Xu Chaoyan took out a piece of charcoal and a piece of white paper, and sketched out the general shape of the wheelchair. When they went to the market, they could take Meng Jiuhe with them. They were afraid that keeping him in the house all day would make him sick and more listless.

Li Sanniang chimed in with some concern, "The carpenter in the village only makes small things for every household. He's never done such delicate work before. Why don't we go ask my family? There's an old carpenter there who likes to study all sorts of strange things. We can take this blueprint with us and have him make it and send it over."

They didn't tell Meng Jiuhe beforehand that they were doing this, afraid that he would be excited at first and then disappointed. They planned to give him a surprise after the product was finished.

It happened to be the New Year, but Li San Niang did not go back to her parents' home because her parents' home was on the other side of the mountain, where it was freezing cold in winter and the road was difficult to travel, so she rarely went back throughout the year.

Ever since Meng's father injured his leg, her sister-in-law from her maternal family has not had any contact with her. She must have seen that their family's life was not as good as before and deliberately distanced herself from them.

She hadn't originally planned to go back to her parents' home, but her husband persuaded her that since her parents were still alive, she should go back and visit them; it wouldn't be right not to.

Seeing her daughter-in-law bring out a lot of things for her, she felt a pang of regret and quickly took out all the candy in her hand and stuffed it back: "Keep these for you and Jiuhe to make drinks with. I'll take some sweet potatoes and a salted fish that I pickled before, that should be enough. No matter how much you give my sister-in-law, she'll still be the same. Keep them for yourself."

Fearing that the mother and daughter would have a hard time walking, Xu Chaoyan specially hired an oxcart to take them to the other side of the mountain, and told them to be careful on the way.

The weather has been nice these past few days, so she asked Meng Jiuxia to go up the mountain to cut a lot of bamboo. They then set up several stakes in the yard and tied bamboo poles to them to make a simple handrail. When Meng Jiuhe does his rehabilitation training, he can hold onto these bamboo poles and walk slowly step by step.

She also built a fence around the chicks she had hatched before. The brood of chicks she had hatched was growing well; out of about 20 hatched, more than a dozen had come out. She was happy that she had actually succeeded in doing something like this for the first time.

Xu Chaoyan felt a great sense of accomplishment. She planned to hatch some more chicks when it got warmer, as the family relied on them for survival. Other people who transmigrated were either blessed with a golden finger, a spatial ability, or became young ladies from noble clans. Unlike her, who was both ugly and forced into marriage, no one would want that.

Although Meng Jiuhe is still cold to her on the surface, his attitude is much better than before. Right now, she just wants to live a good life, make sure her whole family has enough to eat and meat at every meal, and then she can retire gracefully when she achieves success.

After looking at the yard full of bamboo poles, Meng Jiuxia frowned and asked in confusion, "What are you up to? Why are you putting so many guns and sticks in the yard? Aren't you afraid we might accidentally run into them?"

Xu Chaoyan walked over and shook the bamboo poles vigorously. Fortunately, the pit she dug was quite deep and the poles were sturdy enough. She then said with satisfaction, "I was thinking that the weather is getting warmer now. Didn't your brother's leg doctor say before that he should practice walking?
