Ugly girl only wants to farm

Chapter 25 Discussing Making Clothes

Meng Jiuhe felt a little uncomfortable under her gaze. He clenched his fist to his lips and coughed lightly, saying, "Grandmother, this is not the time to talk about these things. My studies are more important. I'll go back to my study now."

After her eldest grandson left, Grandmother Meng didn't have much of a mind for it. She gave Xu Chaoyan a critical look: "What kind of person wears that piece of cloth on their face all day long? It looks like they can't be seen by anyone. The cloth you're wearing is actually quite nice. Take it off and give it to me to make a handkerchief for your sister-in-law, as a token of your sister-in-law's good intentions."

I've seen people who care about their reputation, but I've never seen anyone so shameless. They even care about the fig leaf covering her face.

She had a mischievous idea, then gently removed one of the hanging ropes, revealing half of the abscess, and moved closer to Grandmother Meng: "Grandmother, I don't mind making a handkerchief for Peach Blossom, but my face? I'm afraid it will offend your eyes."

Grandmother shoved her away, unable to hide the disgust in her eyes. Xu Chaoyan was caught off guard and fell to the ground. Her sore bottom from the fall this morning was hit again, making her wince in pain.

Meng Jiuxia hid to the side and laughed. Only this trumpet flower had the guts to talk back to her grandmother.

"Hurry up and cover up your lousy face. Just find any old cloth you don't need. This material looks pretty good to me. Bring it over later."

I thought this matter was over, but I never expected that my grandmother would still take a fancy to this fig leaf.

Xu Chaoyan sniffed, intending to disgust her one more time, and said, "Grandmother, I'll get it for you in a bit, but let me warn you first, this handkerchief is covered in pustules and blood from my face, so be careful not to let Peach Blossom Girl get infected. She's still young and pretty, and she'll get married someday. I don't want her to catch this pimple problem and not find a good family to marry into."

Grandmother glanced at her and cursed, "Bad luck! If I had known you were so shameless as to want to marry into this family, I should have gone to propose marriage earlier and brought that girl into the family so you could be a concubine. At least she's not bad looking, much better than your flat face."

Li San Niang quickly spoke up to remind her, "Mother, what are you saying?"

"Jiudong, go and see if your father has finished eating."

Li San Niang sent her youngest son away. The little boy looked around with curious eyes, so it was best not to let him see the embarrassing things happening in the house.

Only then did Xu Chaoyan realize that Meng Jiuhe had a fiancée he was engaged to. Wasn't she the spitting image of a third party, interfering in someone else's relationship? No wonder Meng Jiuhe didn't treat her well; was he still hung up on someone else?

Seeing that Xu Chaoyan was not displeased, Li Sanniang quickly sent her away: "Yan'er, go and see if Jiu and his study need a cup of tea. Spend more time with him; this child is not a bad person at heart."

After the people had gone far away, Li Sanniang whispered to her mother-in-law, "Mother, don't tell everyone everything. This poison is all from the past, it's all over now."

Grandmother Meng stared at Li San Niang with her big green eyes wide open, her face fierce: "How dare you lecture me? Now you dare to ride on my head? You're just taking advantage of my son's recent leg injury and not giving me a good look, aren't you? I'm going to find him right now."

After saying that, she covered her face and began to sob.

Xu Chaoyan did not listen to Li Sanniang's advice to go to the study to suffer Bing Tuozi's cold stare. She planned to go back to her room for a nap and couldn't help but let out a big yawn.

Back in his room, he dug out the silver again, counted it carefully once more, and wiped it with a handkerchief. What man smells better than silver? Only when he has silver in his hand does he feel secure. He can have whatever he wants. It's a big block of ice; whoever wants it can take it.

She selected several bolts of cloth from her dowry and then chose two hair ornaments from them. She was so busy waiting that she almost fell asleep.

Three-quarters of an hour later, Meng Jiuxia knocked on her door. Seeing the girl's shy appearance, Xu Chaoyan walked over, took her hand, poured her a bowl of water, and handed it to her: "Come and have some water to rest. I'll let you in on a secret, I added a lot of sugar to this, it's very sweet."

Meng Jiuxia looked surprised: "How do you have candy?"

Xu Chaoyan made a vague gesture to her: "When I went back to my parents' home before, Xu's mother secretly hid a bottle in my bag. This is our secret, so don't tell anyone."

The young girl was simple-minded. After seeing those beautiful fabric hair ornaments, she had long forgotten about what had happened before. As for whether she was worthy of her older brother, that was completely out of the question. She held the fabric pieces up to herself again and again.

Then, somewhat nervously, she said, "I doubt Mother will want this."

Xu Chaoyan thought for a moment. Given Li Sanniang's personality, she probably wouldn't accept it. She rested her chin on her hand, pondering a solution: "Sister-in-law, you've worked hard these past few days. You know the family's measurements. Try making it and give it to them all at once."

Meng Jiuxia said somewhat uncertainly, "I'm young and have never sewn such good fabric before. I'm afraid I'll ruin it and waste it."

Seeing her cautious appearance, Xu Chaoyan comforted her, "It's okay, just treat it as practice. When you grow up, you'll get married anyway, and you'll have to make clothes for your husband in the future, so just think of it as practice in advance."

When Meng Jiuxia heard her say that she would find a husband in the future, her face turned red involuntarily, and she muttered to herself, "Aren't you ashamed? You want a husband yourself and you still have the nerve to criticize me."

Xu Chaoyan chuckled: "I'm married now, what's wrong with openly thinking about my husband? Besides, you're not young anymore. I'm letting you practice beforehand for your own good. You can decide for yourself. Anyway, I don't know how. I can only help you out at most."

The two then discussed that every time Meng Jiuxia finished her farm work and came back from outside, she would spend some time doing needlework in the house with Meng Jiuxia, and life would continue peacefully like this.

With Xu Chaoyan confined to her room all day, Grandma Meng couldn't find an opportunity to cause trouble anymore; she would only roll her eyes at her during meals.

Xu Chaoyan stayed indoors all day and wouldn't come out. She couldn't find anything wrong with her, and she stomped her feet in anger.

Meng Jiuhe stayed in the house for two days before preparing to return to the school in town. His grandmother looked reluctant to part with him, and tears streamed down her face like broken beads: "Grandson, take good care of yourself when you go there. Remember to miss your grandmother. Be sure to eat more and don't go hungry. Remember to come back when you have a holiday."

When Xu Chaoyan saw her like this, she thought to herself that it was as if her husband was going on a long trip. The real wife was still here, but she was monopolizing her grandson and nagging on and on.
