"Come on in, Shen Yuan just went to the cafeteria, he should be home soon. Please have a seat." Xie Qingyu greeted them.

"Alright, this is Deputy Regiment Commander Song Qiang. Is there anything we can help you with?" Since Nie Shenyuan wasn't around, Shi Tou, who considered himself to be quite familiar with Xie Qingyu, automatically started to help make arrangements.

"There's no kitchen here. You can come over and see if you want to eat inside or outside. If you want to eat outside, we'll have to bring the table out," Xie Qingyu asked.

"Outside, shall we?" Shi Tou looked at Song Qiang with a questioning gaze.

Song Qiang hesitated for a moment, and just then, Instructor Lu, Sister-in-law Lu, and the regimental commander arrived together.

"I'm late. I wanted to come earlier to help you, but my brat at home kept me waiting. Is there anything I can help you with?" Aunt Lu said as soon as she came in.

"Guests are always welcome. Besides, we're the ones hosting, so why would we wait for you to come and help? Everything is almost ready." Xie Qingyu smiled as she welcomed them in.

When Song Qiang saw the regimental commander and Instructor Lu coming over, he felt like he had seen a savior. "The two leaders, please see if we want to eat inside or in the yard. If we want to eat in the yard, I will bring out the table."

"Let's go to the courtyard. It's cooler there, and there's more space," the regimental commander said, looking around.

Nie Shenyuan returned just then, accompanied by two other people, so everyone was finally there.

Nie Shenyuan talked to them with Tuanzi and put the food he got from the cafeteria on the table.

Xie Qingyu brought up the snacks she had bought earlier, as well as the two dishes that Nie Shenyuan had prepared.

"Why didn't you bring your son over to eat with us, sister-in-law? What are you going to eat by yourself at home?" Xie Qingyu asked Sister-in-law Lu as she busied herself preparing the last dish.

"Never mind him. I agreed to let him have cookies today, and he refuses to eat any other meal. He just wants to eat cookies." Although Mrs. Lu complained, she also smiled, clearly showing that she still dotes on her child.

"Just eating cookies won't do. Fry him an egg later and you can take it home."

“No need to bother, he can fry eggs himself. He’ll make them if he wants to eat them. I’m not home to supervise him right now, and he might be out having fun with some other kid.” Mrs. Lu refused.

"Okay, sister-in-law, please go and sit down too. This is the last dish I have left. It'll be ready in a bit, and we can eat right away," Xie Qingyu said.

Seeing that she was about to serve the dishes, Sister Lu didn't refuse. She washed the knife, tidied up, and put the dishes on the table.

The men over there hadn't even started eating yet; they were just chatting amongst themselves.

Although the individuals had different job ranks, the differences weren't particularly significant, and they were all familiar with each other, so there was no disharmony.

The conversation is now all about Song Qiang.

“Look how cute Lao Nie is, he can already call me Dad. You’ve reached this position, it’s not a good idea to live apart from your wife. When are you going to bring your wife over?”

Xie Qingyu walked over and heard Coach Lu say this.

Song Qiang forced a smile and looked up to see Xie Qingyu carrying the dishes over. He moved the dishes a little so she could put them down, saying, "I wanted to too, but my wife is worried about my parents and really doesn't want to come."

After finishing his sentence, Song Qiang sighed twice.

"Your wife is a filial daughter-in-law," Lu Zhidao could only say when he saw the situation.

“You guys should work harder now. If you prove yourselves, you can get married and join your units. How wonderful! Look at your Deputy Regiment Commander Nie, having a family makes all the difference.” Instructor Lu turned the conversation to Nie Shenyuan.

Without him saying it, those closest to Nie Shenyuan were the most aware of his recent changes.

Previously, they would stay on the training field after training to let others do extra practice, but now they leave as soon as it's time.

If anyone asks him about his wife and children, they'll see a smile on his usually stern face.

It looks rather scary.

After some lighthearted banter, these people started telling Tuanzi to call them "uncle" and "elder brother."

The atmosphere during the meal was quite pleasant.

Xie Qingyu then realized that these people were people Nie Shenyuan had known since he joined the army, and were undoubtedly his good brothers.

Although the group didn't drink, the atmosphere was so warm and nostalgic that they seemed even more genuine than if they had.

In the end, they all started criticizing Nie Shenyuan, saying that he had such a beautiful wife but kept her hidden and didn't let her join the army early.

Several people knew that Nie Shenyuan had no parents, so it was a bit much to leave Xie Qingyu to take care of the child alone in their hometown.

Nie Shenyuan glanced at Xie Qingyu but didn't explain.

Given the circumstances before, he never imagined that Xie Qingyu would come to join the army.

The meal went on very late, and Sister-in-law Lu went home first, leaving the children alone at home because she was worried they would need to sleep.

Xie Qingyu also coaxed Tuanzi to sleep. By the time everyone left, it was already late at night. When Xie Qingyu came out to see the guests off, her eyes were already a little too tired to keep open.

After seeing the person off, she walked back as if in a daze, and then stood at the table looking around.

When the group finished, they had already tidied up the table, leaving only some stacked lunch boxes and plates to wash.

Nie Shenyuan closed the courtyard gate and saw Xie Qingyu standing there. He took a few steps forward and asked, "Are you sleepy?"

Xie Qingyu nodded, too sleepy to even speak.

"Go to sleep if you're tired. It's getting late. I'll clean up, don't worry about it." Nie Shenyuan looked at Xie Qingyu as he spoke and noticed that she was indeed extremely tired, her eyes were almost closed.

However, it was also because it was quite late today; Xie Qingyu would usually be asleep by this time.

Xie Qingyu was too lazy to think at the moment; she knew from Nie Shenyuan's words that she should walk around the table and into the house.

Nie Shenyuan watched her walk into the house from behind before smiling and then bending down to tidy up the things on the table.

After cleaning everything up, including the kitchen, Nie Shenyuan returned to his room.

By the light, you can see the familiar figures of the two people on the bed, one big and one small.

Nie Shenyuan felt that in his nearly thirty years of life, he had never felt so carefree as he did now. If only...

Nie Shenyuan blew out the oil lamp and got into bed. Feeling the warmth coming from beside him, he turned to face Xie Qingyu, observing her current state even though he couldn't see her.

After an unknown amount of time, the person next to him suddenly rolled over and ended up in Nie Shenyuan's arms.

Nie Shenyuan froze for a moment, but it was only for a brief instant. Without much internal struggle, he reached out and pulled the person into his arms.

If only we could do this every day.

Nie Shenyuan's arms tightened unconsciously. The envy people showed him today for his happy marriage and harmonious family made him feel dazed, as if this was how it should be.
