Berserk: The Prophet
Chapter 85 Silencing
Kadi took a deep breath to suppress the urge to attack Green. He knew Green's stubborn nature ever since the last time, but he would never allow Green to challenge his bottom line and disrupt his plans again and again. This time, however, he was prepared to thoroughly understand the situation.
"...Tell me about it."
.........
"This world is already so cruel and wicked, I will never allow such evil people to live in this world!!" Green's eyes were filled with anger.
"........."
Cardi's blue eyes dimmed slightly as he glanced indifferently at Green. When was the last time he felt this way? Was it when he was still an upright and honorable knight? He couldn't remember... it didn't matter anymore.
"The world is cruel like this, and the world is inherently unfair. Such things happen all the time. You shouldn't let such a trivial matter affect my plans."
"...But that's no small matter for me."
Green was certainly aware of the injustices and cruelties of the world; he didn't deny it, but he was absolutely unwilling to tolerate the evil unfolding before his eyes!
Kadi stared indifferently at Green, whose innocence, stubbornness, and righteous fervor were so much like that person's. However, this fervor was far too dazzling for him now, almost nauseating, and he was so jealous that he wanted to extinguish it with his own hands!
A fierce glint flashed in those deep blue eyes, as if wanting to kill him, but it was quickly concealed by some emotion, leaving them dark and unfathomable.
"Get up, there's another operation tonight."
Kadi wiped the dagger he had pulled from his pocket. The hilt of the dagger was inlaid with gemstones, and the blade was covered with a golden color. Even in the basement, the chilling aura emanating from its blade could not be concealed, just like its owner, sharp and cold.
Seeing this, Best stopped forcing Green, because there was indeed an operation tonight. Although he didn't quite understand why Green had to be brought along, Cardi, as someone he served, must have his reasons.
This surprised Green; Cardi didn't punish him, which was unlike him at all.
Kadi pulled a black robe from some hidden compartment and threw it at Green's face. He then tossed him a light crossbow. Since he knew how to use it, there was no need to waste his talent. Kadi and Best quickly changed into their night clothes.
"Put on your clothes. Since you know how to use a crossbow, put in some effort and stay close to me!" Kadi was already dressed and stood sternly at the top of the stairs, looking at Green who had just stood up.
There was no time for Green to be surprised. Enduring the pain and soreness in his legs, he quickly picked up the crossbow and quiver from the ground, put on his black robe, and followed in the footsteps of Cadi and Best. Along the way, other spies hidden in the castle joined them. Although they didn't know what kind of mission they were going to do, they just had to do it.
Having been in Orse for so long, I've gotten to know the basic geography. This direction is very remote, and it looks like a prison. Why is Kadi going to the prison? To rescue someone?
Due to recent events, the number of guards has increased significantly at this time. However, because it is late at night, some people still dare to slack off and doze off. Under the moonlight, without Kadi's hand signals, several people have taken care of the guards in front of the gate.
Immediately afterwards, the group found the key to the gate on the guards' corpses, rushed inside, pulled out crossbows, and shot the guards dead. The sentries hiding there also rose from the table and slit the throats of the guards who tried to draw their swords to resist. They died without understanding how they died, their blood splattered all over the table, their eyes rolled back.
With all the guards on duty tonight dead, the keys to each cell were retrieved from the warden's body. Tonight's objective had only just begun. As they walked deeper into the cell, the dark, damp air mingled with the strong stench of blood that permeated the prison. The deeper they went, the more nauseating the smell became, accompanied by the squeaking of rats and the stench of rotting flesh.
“Uh…” “Ah…”
The prisoners groaned in pain, looking as if they had suffered a lot of torture that day and would probably spend the rest of their lives lying in hospital beds.
"...You've come."
Some of them naturally recognized the leader who commanded them in battle, but he was just a fool who was wounded and hadn't had time to commit suicide because he was clinging to a sliver of hope.
"Well, I'm here."
Kadi's deep blue eyes were dark and unfathomable. These fools would only drag them down. In this dark and torturous place, no one could guarantee that their mouths wouldn't say something carelessly, even though Kadi's identity had been well hidden.
"Are we going to save them?" Green wondered, after all the trouble they'd gone through.
Kadi looked at Green, who only reached his waist, and could tell what the little guy was thinking just by looking at his hesitant eyes. Perhaps he felt a kind of pleasure in extinguishing the threat with his own hands. He smiled, a smile he hadn't shown in a long time, as if he were teaching his people. He crouched down and gently lifted Green's right hand, pointing the crossbow in Green's hand at the throat of his dying companion. Only then did Green realize what Kadi and the others were after, and his pupils contracted slightly.
"Let me teach you how to survive in this cruel world." Kadi's eyes were filled with ruthlessness; his former comrade was now his enemy, and he would show no mercy!
"Whoosh!" "Click!"
Cardi's hand, with Green's tiny fingers, pulled the trigger. With the sound of an arrow piercing the air and a crack of bone, the man died peacefully without even a cry of pain. Perhaps, under the dual torment of body and mind, such a death was a release.
Green's hands and feet suddenly turned icy cold, his hand trembled slightly as he shot the arrow, and his heart sank. Perhaps he had been living in comfort with Pander for too long, and he had almost forgotten just how ruthless this man could be. He even had a premonition that if he acted on his own again or tried to escape, he would surely be killed!
"Have you learned it?"
Kadi's eyes seemed to have returned to their former calm, as if this was nothing more than a trivial matter. Meanwhile, the men behind him had already taken action, some piercing their throats with crossbow bolts, others slicing them open with daggers. They were not only targeting their former comrades, but also the unfortunate souls who had been captured. After all, it was possible to catch someone by peeling back the layers of the mystery bit by bit.
The weak wails and screams lasted only a moment before abruptly ceasing, though the stench of blood seemed even stronger in the prison.
Kadi's brilliance lay in his perfect timing; the massacre went unnoticed, and those who were injured in the operation escaped under cover of darkness via slings to the outskirts of the city to continue their infiltration. Midland's army had already completely retreated into the castle, which now only had two walls remaining.
Stepping out of the prison gate, a dozen sentries and men in black robes scattered, leaving only the three of them. Kadi looked at Green meaningfully, and instead of heading back, he kicked Green to the ground and drew his soft whip from his waist.
"Take off your clothes."
"???!!" Green suddenly looked astonished. Why would someone take off their clothes in the snow? Could it be some strange fetish? He covered his clothes tightly in bewilderment.
The memories of his dead body suddenly attacked Green. Why did he have to transmigrate into this damned legendary world of madness? Could it be that he was going to be mad too?
