Berserk: The Prophet

Chapter 286 Illusion

"Why...aren't you wearing any clothes?"

Before Green could take Guts away, the knight who had been keeping a close eye on him caught up, along with the one-eyed man they had met during the day.

"Damn!!"

Green had already shaken off most of the knights. After dealing with two knights who got close to him, the one-eyed man took the opportunity to catch up and swung his long axe at Green's head.

At that moment, Green had no time to block, and could only tilt his head to the side. With a "clang," the helmet shattered and flew away.

A close call!

Blood trickled from Green's forehead, and his eyes instantly turned fierce. The two immediately engaged in a fierce battle.

"Ping" "Clang"

Green charged forward with full force, his two-handed greatsword putting the man at a disadvantage!

When the one-eyed man realized that his opponent was indeed a child, he was completely stunned. This child was exceptionally strong; if he was an enemy, he must not be allowed to live!

The one-eyed man's killing intent surged, and his attack suddenly became even more ruthless. He abruptly turned to the side, drawing a tricky arc with his long axe, aiming straight for Green's waist and abdomen.

Green's eyes sharpened, and he quickly used his greatsword to block. Sparks flew as the metal clashed, and the immense impact of the heavy axe made his hand go numb for a moment.

The two men started competing, and even their horses were spinning around in circles, as if being pulled by their masters.

“I feel like I’ve seen you somewhere before, kid!” The one-eyed man looked at Green and remembered that he had previously assigned the adopted son of a mercenary captain to a spy mission.

Green snorted coldly, his grip remaining firm. "Don't try to get close to me!"

As he spoke, he suddenly twisted the blade of his sword, using only his strength to push the man away, even causing the man's horse to shift slightly to the side.

Taking advantage of the situation, Green swung his sword fiercely. The one-eyed man hurriedly raised his axe to block, but the enormous impact made his arm go numb. It was hard to imagine that such a strong sense of oppression would come from a child!

At this moment, the shouts of battle and the sounds of clashing weapons mingled together all around.

Green spotted a gap in the man's defense and kicked the belly of his horse with his steel-plated toes. The horse reared up in pain, throwing Green off its back.

Just as Green was about to press his advantage and deliver the fatal blow, a crossbow bolt shot out from the darkness, grazing Green's shoulder.

He turned his head and saw that another group of Juda knights was about to arrive to provide support.

We cannot linger in the fight!!

"Kid, I remember who you are! You're still alive, and you even came back from Grant alive!!"

Green was startled, not expecting that this one-eyed man knew about his past. But he didn't have time to think about it; he had to get out of there immediately!

"You got the wrong person!"

Without waiting for the one-eyed man's reply, Green rode away, not caring about anything else. The other side had more people and was more powerful, so running away was the best option.

Fortunately, horses suddenly appeared at the corner of the camp, blocking the knights chasing Green, who had already escaped.

Green spurred his horse on, galloping at full speed until he was sure there were no pursuers behind him, at which point he slowed down.

He was panting heavily, still pondering the one-eyed man's words.

How did that person know I came back from Grant? Could it be... that Cardi guy isn't dead either?

As dawn broke, Green arrived at a grove of trees.

He dismounted to rest and checked the wound on his forehead. It was just a scrape and nothing serious, but he had a headache, which might be a mild concussion.

Just as he was about to remount, he suddenly heard a faint sound coming from deep within the woods. He gripped his greatsword warily and slowly approached the source of the sound.

Parting the bushes, they found Jacob hiding there looking disheveled, his sword at his waist poised to strike.

"Why are you here?"

When Jacob saw that it was Green, a hint of surprise flashed in his eyes, mixed with the panic of being relieved. He breathed a sigh of relief and said, "I finally managed to kill that group of knights, but my horse died on the way. I'm hiding here to rest."

Green frowned. "Come with me first." Jacob hesitated for a moment, then nodded.

The two mounted a horse and continued their journey. Along the way, Green was still pondering the one-eyed man's words, and Jacob, seemingly sensing his thoughts, cautiously asked, "What are you thinking about, sir?"

Green was silent for a moment, then relayed the one-eyed man's words to him. Jacob's face turned grim upon hearing this. "If Kadi isn't dead, then we're in danger in Juda."

Green took a deep breath. "Anyway, let's find a safe place first."

Just then, Green suddenly felt a sharp pain in his head, and his vision went black as he nearly fell off his horse. Jacob quickly caught him, asking worriedly, "Are you alright, sir? Is your head injury serious?"

Despite the pain, Greene found himself with vague fragments of memories surfacing in his mind.

It was a child and a burly man; the boy's dark eyes were brimming with tears.

Chaos... grief and anger... disbelief...

The sudden surge of emotion was like a whirlpool, suddenly suffocating Green's chest.

“It’s alright, keep going.” He knew that now was not the time to give up; they had to get out of the potential danger as soon as possible.

The two continued their bumpy journey on horseback. Although the excruciating pain had temporarily subsided, Green felt a sense of unease.

As time passed, it became bright, but the surrounding area was all hills, and there was no town in sight. It seemed that the two of them would have to camp out in the wild tonight.

......

That's... Green!?

As Gus watched the fully armed knights walk away, his small face, stained with Dunoban's blood, suddenly realized what was happening and murmured to himself.

"Is it...my younger brother?"

Green was indeed alive!

Gus quickly dressed, but he also noticed the sound of horses' hooves chasing after Green.

Gus peeked through a small crack in the tent and looked down the low hillside; the area outside the tent was in complete chaos.

That little tin can that looked like Green's has disappeared somewhere.

"Ugh..." Dunoban, who was lying motionless inside the tent, also let out a dying groan.

"Damn..."

Guts, having picked up the greatsword, immediately revealed a fierce expression. He placed his foot on Dunoban's chest, the greatsword in his hand ready to be fed into Dunoban's mouth at any moment, sending this pervert to his death.

"Tell me again, let's see!!"

"Who do you think betrayed me?!"

Blood trickled from the corner of Dunoban's mouth as he struggled to utter a few words: "Cough, it's... Gan..."

“Tell me!” Just as Gambino’s name was about to be uttered from Dunoban’s mouth, Guts plunged his greatsword into his mouth, piercing through his entire throat.

The greatsword slammed into his throat one and a half times, then Guts abruptly pulled it out, and Dunoban fell completely still.

"Huff..." Guts slumped onto the wooden crate beside him, the cold sweat still pouring down his forehead.

Why did Gambino betray him? It was only three silver coins; was money really that important to Gambino? He clearly also...

Gus rested briefly before getting up and putting on his gear; now was not the time to think about such things.
