Berserk: The Prophet
Chapter 284 A Brief Encounter
"What?" Dunoban's expression changed; he hadn't brought any weapons with him to Guts's tent.
Flames flickered outside the tent, and the shouts of battle grew louder, with blood splattering onto the tent.
However, at that moment, Guts' tent was opened again, and the person who came was a child dressed in a tin can and knight's attire.
Dunoban looked toward the entrance in horror, where the small tin knight stood at the tent entrance. The moonlight outlined his silhouette as particularly cold and stern. His face was obscured by his helmet, but the aura he exuded sent chills down one's spine.
Guts also looked towards the door, his eyes full of surprise. Before he could speak, the Iron Can Knight quickly said, "Come with me if you want to live!"
His voice was young but carried an undeniable firmness.
That voice... sounds so familiar!!
Upon hearing this, Dunoban grasped at a lifeline and, disregarding his assault on Gus, charged toward Grimm, who was dressed as the Iron Can Knight, shouting, "Take me out of here!"
"Go to hell, that's an eyesore!!"
Because Gus's tent was pitched downhill and in dim light, Green noticed that there was a sleazy-looking bald black man in the familiar tent.
He was naked, it was an eyesore. Wearing steel leg guards, Green kicked him back and pulled out a crossbow from his backpack, shooting Dunoban dead.
Green quickly put away his crossbow and shouted at Gus again, "Don't just stand there, you..."
Gus was still in a daze from the sudden killing of Dunoban when he heard Green urging him to come back to his senses.
"You...why aren't you wearing any clothes?" Green was stunned, only then realizing that the bald man he had just shot...wasn't that the black guy from the sidelines of Guts?!
"Stop! He's right there, don't let him get away!!"
Before Green could take Gus with him, the pursuers caught up. Green clicked his tongue and quickly mounted his horse to lure the pursuers away.
Green rode his warhorse at breakneck speed in the approaching dawn, pursued relentlessly by his troops, the sound of hooves echoing like a rapid drumbeat through the camp.
He must lure these pursuers away from Guts!
.........
...As for why Green is here.
To talk about this, we have to start from yesterday.
Just after he finished dealing with another group of bandits composed of defeated soldiers, he met up with Jacob and Drian, only to suddenly encounter a group of poorly equipped knights who looked like they had just suffered a defeat and were rushing to the southern fortress.
After the enemy inquired about the origins of Green and his companions, the enemy's heraldic officer said that he had never seen such a symbol in Juda territory, and immediately regarded Green and his companions as spies from Midland.
Clearly, the other side also coveted their equipment and sent their men to pursue them.
Jacob and Delian each drew their bows and crossbows from their horses to hinder the enemy's advance. The three, who had finally met up, then parted ways to lure the enemy away.
Green's opponent was a man clad in black steel armor, whose mount was clearly faster, and who was wielding a one-handed sword, ready to decapitate Green.
Green felt a chill run down his neck and immediately drew his two-handed greatsword from his back to block.
"Clang—!" The black-armored man's one-handed sword struck Grin's two-handed greatsword, sparks flying.
The immense impact traveled along the blade to Green's back and right arm, but Green had no time to think. He drew his sword, spurred his horse's flanks, and propelled it forward, creating distance between himself and his opponent.
The man was not about to give up. He spurred his horse and gave chase, constantly swinging his sword at Green, the wind whistling through the air.
Green dodged to the side, seized the opportunity, and suddenly turned around, wielding his two-handed greatsword with only one hand, slashing down on his opponent with tremendous force.
Are you kidding me? A kid wielding a two-handed sword with only one hand? Is he trying to perform some kind of juggling act?!
The man raised his sword to defend himself with a hint of disdain, but the next moment he could barely manage to stop laughing.
With a loud clang, he was instantly shaken so badly that his arm trembled and even the longsword in his hand broke in two. All of this happened in the blink of an eye.
"boom--"
The man's helmet was knocked off, and if he hadn't relied on his years of combat instinct to dodge backward at the last moment, he probably would have lost his life there.
The horse, which had been accelerating, was pulled back by its owner's sudden dodge, causing it to lift its front hooves and nearly fall off the horse.
The two knights behind him continued their pursuit of Green.
Damn it, how could a kid possibly have that kind of strength?!
"Hey, you two, watch out, this kid's tough!!" The one-eyed man whose helmet had been knocked off shouted a warning to his two henchmen.
After tidying up his equipment, the man also gave chase, but when he reached the hills, he discovered a group of defeated soldiers running from the southern fortress.
"What? It's fallen so quickly..." the man muttered to himself. He temporarily set aside the pursuit of the suspicious individuals; he needed to report this to Heron first!
"Bang—" "Pfft—"
The two knights who caught up were of average strength and were quickly killed by Green. He collected two low-quality knight essences, which were better than nothing.
Two sets of full plate armor and two warhorses, some equipment and 22 glittering gold coins.
"Tsk, as expected, the knight is still the most valuable." Green put a gold coin in his mouth and bit it. Perhaps it was because of his fusion with Belial, but he seemed to be very happy when he saw these shiny coins and armor.
But then again, isn't greed... part of human nature?
By using the system, two Knight Souls were converted into two cavalrymen, costing a total of 200 Soul Points, in exchange for two fully armed Pendor cavalrymen.
"Your Excellency, Son of Prophecy, we are willing to follow you to the death."
Just like when Delian and Jacob were first summoned, the two fully-leveled cavalrymen dismounted and knelt on one knee to swear allegiance.
"Yes, no need for further explanation, just call me Your Excellency." Green gave a brief instruction, otherwise they would have definitely added the prefix "Child of Prophecy".
Where are Derian and Jacob now?
"Your Excellency, the two of them are currently missing. I believe they will return once they have finished their business."
"Alright, go and scout. If you find the southern fortress nearby, come back and report. Be careful to avoid enemy troops."
"Understood, my lord."
Two Pandeh armed cavalrymen obeyed the order and left, the sound of their hooves gradually fading into the distance.
After a brief rest and a thorough inspection of his new equipment, Green mounted his horse and headed in the direction he had roughly guessed Guss was.
