Berserk: The Prophet

Chapter 143 The Death of Ali (6)

Just as the two demons were charging toward the heavily wounded Green, several spears and throwing axes successfully halted their advance.

"Green!!"

It was Akasha and her companions from Vanscare. They had found horses and followed Green when they rushed towards the woods, and they came over immediately when they heard the commotion.

Enraged by the spears that were thrown at them, the two demons abandoned the helpless Green and prepared to deal with the others first.

Aikasa, Osman, and the others quickly assumed fighting stances to meet the demons' attack. One of the demons spread its wings and pounced straight at Aikasa, who dodged the attack by sidestepping and then thrust her iron sword into the demon's abdomen.

Another demon spewed a flame, attempting to burn the three. Fortunately, Osman, Drai, and Perry raised their shields in time, blocking the flames.

"Holy crap, it's so hot!!"

Osman's shield withstood most of the flames, but the wooden Vanscare shield caught fire, burning so badly that Osman immediately threw it away.

The two sides then engaged in fierce close combat. However, the demon's power seemed inexhaustible, and even though it was severely injured, it still managed to suppress the three of them, forcing them to retreat step by step.

Akasha was in no better shape, forced to use her shield to fend off the demons' attacks while searching for an opportunity to retaliate.

"Bam—!"

The cracking of the wooden shield forced Akasha to face every attack from the demon, leaving her exhausted and constantly battling. Each encounter was so intense that the terrifying force transmitted from the metal sword made her hands go numb.

"Gulp!!"

The demon roared, severing Ikasa's weapon with a sword and kicking her away.

"Akasha!!"

Osman called out urgently, but the three were already entangled in the battle with the demons and unable to provide support. Green's heavy body also turned towards his arriving companions, but the slowly flowing blood was constantly draining Green's strength, and even with his eyes open, everything in front of him seemed to be a blur of darkness.

Damn it!! Get moving! We haven't avenged Ali yet, and that always-nagging woman is about to be killed by the demon too! Get moving!

Grimm mustered all his strength and slowly moved the fingers of his right arm. With the help of clenched teeth and painful memories, his numb and leaden arm finally felt a little bit of response. He pulled out a match from the small box in his left arm and lit the fuse.

"...Go to hell."

Green supported the weight of his left arm with his right hand, and pulled the trigger on the outside with his right thumb as if he had mustered all his strength.

"Boom!!"

Just moments before the demon was about to strike Aikasa down, a mithril bullet pierced her chest. The red light in her eyes vanished instantly, and a large hole was burned into her chest by the mithril. She collapsed heavily to the ground. That was a close call...

Akasha touched her neck; it was still there. A belated sense of fear made her hands and feet feel cold, and she almost didn't realize that the demon's blood on her face wasn't her own.

That kick seemed to have broken several of her ribs, but the battle wasn't over yet, and she had to rejoin it. Just as Akasha staggered to her feet, she saw Green collapse to the ground with a thud.

Akasha rushed to Green's side to check his injuries. Fortunately, Green was still breathing, but his injuries were serious and he needed treatment as soon as possible.

This was clearly not a good place, so Green was carried into the jungle by Akasha and hidden away.

The critical situation and the weight she had just experienced still made Akasha's heart pound in her chest. She could feel Green's shallow, rapid breathing. She had to do something, immediately!

She looked around, searching for anything she could use. Not far away, she saw a withered tree that had been struck by lightning; some dry branches remained on the broken trunk. Aikasha quickly ran over, broke off a few thicker branches, and then rummaged through a small pouch hidden in her bosom for some herbs.

There wasn't time to clean Green's wounds properly, so they used whatever materials were available, tearing off the remaining cloth from Green's body and applying herbs to it. Finally, they made a simple splint out of branches and bandages to quickly fix his severed arm, while his arms, which were still bleeding, were wrapped up like dumplings.

“Hang in there, Green,” Akasha whispered, her voice firm yet gentle, trying to offer Green some comfort. She didn’t know if Green could pull through, but the most important thing now was to keep him conscious and prevent him from falling into a coma.

Meanwhile, Osman and the others were also engaged in a fierce battle with another demon. The demon was incredibly powerful, and each attack shattered a corner of the shield, but Osman and his companions had long since developed a strong teamwork, forming a triangular formation to repeatedly fend off the demon's attacks and attempt to counterattack.

The intensity of the battle made the surrounding air scorching, and the sounds of swords clashing against shields were incessant. Ryder and Paley's shields were already badly damaged, but they still used them to withstand attack after attack. Osman, on the other hand, constantly sought opportunities to inflict wounds on the demon with their weapons.

The battle lasted for a long time. Finally, the demon, whose strength was gradually waning, revealed an opening. Under Osman's long-charged battle axe, it let out a shrill howl and fell to the ground. Its head was immediately chopped off by the battle axe, and it died.

Osman let out a long sigh of relief. He was exhausted from trying to kill this damned demon. Leaning on his battle axe, he rested while searching for Grin and Akasha. Ryder and Peli were in no better shape. Their shields were completely destroyed, and their weapons were chipped and broken, rendering them unusable. Fortunately, none of the three had any obvious wounds.

Osman soon spotted Akasha and Green under a tree not far away. They looked at each other, exhausted but their eyes shining with the light of victory.

Green's breathing gradually calmed down, and with a short rest and the bleeding from his wounds stopping, his consciousness began to return. He opened his eyes and saw Akasha's concerned gaze and Osman and the others' tired but satisfied faces.

"Cough cough, did we... win?" Green's voice was weak, but a faint light still flickered in his eyes.

“Yes, we won,” Akasha replied, a tear glistening in her eyes, but it was quickly replaced by her strength.

"...That's good."

Just as Green was about to close his heavy eyelids and rest for a while, the image of Serantti suddenly flashed into his mind, Green's right eyelid bulged, and he secretly thought something was wrong.
