Berserk: The Prophet
Chapter 14 Wyndam City
"?!"
The familiar name made Green carefully search for the character in the original work. It sounded so familiar. Wasn't this the name of the NPC who killed 30 people at the beginning of the Golden Age and was then killed by Guts with a single blow to the head?
Green scrutinized Bazzso repeatedly, but the other was busy pounding meat and didn't notice Green's gaze.
Judging from his physique, he's always been strong since childhood. It wouldn't be surprising if he were the one from the original work. So it was Qiu Daren?
Having almost filled my stomach, I packed away the food. There wasn't much water left in my water bag, so I needed to go boil some water to prepare for tomorrow's drinking water.
"Keep an eye on her."
"Mmm...mmm...uh!" Bazso replied, his mouth full of food.
............
"Actually, we could just leave those two brats behind when we get there..."
"After all, the commander doesn't know the specifics, so this kind of thing is irrelevant. They can just sneak in and not worry about it; whether they survive or not is up to fate..."
Green, who was by the reeds preparing to fetch water from the stream, heard a familiar voice and quickly squatted down.
"To be honest, you could sell him directly to the Colosseum. That fat guy should be able to feed the wild beasts there, right?"
"Haha, not bad, I can earn some extra money!"
"Hey, boss, what do you think...?"
"Yeah, let's listen to Shiva. Bringing along two kids and spending money on drinks... we don't have time to worry about those two brats..."
"Do as you please," Kadi said indifferently, as the fate of the kids was none of his concern.
"Heh." Squatting by the reeds and listening to their conversation, Green chuckled coldly without any surprise. Once they were far away, he quickly fetched his own water, put the bucket into his spatial storage, and made a slight detour to get back before them.
.........
"You're back, Green!" Bazso had finished his meat and was still licking his fingers with lingering satisfaction.
"Ah."
He casually replied and poured the water from the bucket into a pot, then put it on the campfire to boil.
swish swish...
A short while later, Kadi and a few of his men returned.
"Honestly, we didn't catch anything... Oh well, let's just eat something. These two fish aren't even enough to fill a tooth gap."
"What bad luck, not even a bird's nest," the group complained to each other.
"Huh? What's that smell? It smells so good."
Dogs have a very keen sense of smell.
"Hey kid, you should still have some meat left, right? How about sharing some with us, two pieces each?" The man named Shiva walked up to Green and reached out his hand.
"That's all I have. If you eat it, what will I eat? You guys won't care about my food anyway." Green picked up his rations package and said it loudly on purpose, but the package was indeed so empty that there were hardly any pieces of meat left.
"You brat..." Shiva was annoyed and prepared to go forward and teach Green a lesson, but the people in the surrounding caravan looked over with hostility. If these people were really the child's family, their way of getting along was too strange.
"Alright, isn't it shameful enough to snatch a child? Shiva!" Kadi stopped Shiva and gave him a warning look.
"Hmph, you'll get what's coming to you later." The man named Shiva found a place to sit down and glanced at Green with malicious intent.
You damn scum, I'll kill you sooner or later.
Green was also secretly plotting in his mind. Along the way, this man named Shiva had caused him no shortage of trouble, or rather, he had ridiculed and ordered them around quite a bit.
Occasionally they might catch a couple of pheasants, rabbits, or spear a few fish, but most of the time they gnaw on coarse bread, and occasionally going to a tavern for a few drinks is their daily routine.
Green didn't plan to sleep on the ground today. He quickly climbed up a relatively thick tree branch, pulled off his cloak, and hugged his sword to prepare for rest.
Bazso and the little girl sat around them as usual, waiting for them to leave some watery soup, since Bazso's appetite seemed to be perpetually insatiable.
............
Time flies, and after a month and a half of long journey, we finally arrived in Wyndam City, which was now close at hand.
"Hmph." Shiva's eyes swept over the three young children with ill intent, completely ignoring the one holding a sword.
You brat, just wait until we get to the city and I'll teach you a lesson!
Green could sense Shiva's ill intentions, but he would make the man pay for his foolishness; he simply gripped his sword tighter.
Baziso, standing beside him, was completely unaware of the adults' schemes. Compared to his silence when they first set out, he now seemed to be in better spirits, except for being somewhat malnourished.
.........
"Where did they come from?" After the caravan was allowed to pass, a group of civilians who had followed the caravan seeking refuge were stopped and checked one by one.
"I'm from Bigso village, sir." Shiva put on a fawning smile and secretly slipped five silver coins to the guard.
"These are my brother and his child from the same village. They're planning to come to the capital to see what it's like. Could you please do them a favor?"
The guard weighed the silver coins in his hand and readily let them pass.
"Let's go, next one!"
As the guard finished speaking, the group quickly passed through the gates of the capital.
When Bazso first saw the capital of Midland, his small eyes widened in surprise. He thought the outer city walls were already magnificent enough, but he didn't expect the scene inside to be even more splendid.
He had never been to such a prosperous city when he followed his parents into business. Drainage ditches had been built along the roads, and although they were not very perfect, they were considered advanced in today's world.
Various medieval houses came into view, all made of blue bricks and stone tiles, with stone slabs paving the ground, and vendors setting up stalls and hawking their wares in all sorts of alleys.
In such an era, it could be considered absolutely magnificent. At least the alleyways where people lived were not covered in manure, and the stone-paved roads looked quite picturesque under the glow of dusk.
The road that Green and his companions were traveling on was frequently traversed by caravans and serfs driving oxcarts, and was piled high with animal dung.
Thankfully, it's already autumn. Green was silently relieved. Apart from the tire tracks, the manure stains here were almost caked up, each one a mound of manure mud, completely obscuring the original appearance of the ground. It would have stank horribly in the summer.
In short, no matter how prosperous it is, it can't compare to a modern city in the 21st century. However, seeing this kind of era in front of you is a very new experience, much more realistic than in the game.
The first thing they did upon arriving in Wyndam was to find a place to stay, and the group went to a tavern.
"Boss, I need a room!"
"Hehehe, how many rooms do you want to book?"
“Three regular guest rooms. Give him one alone. We can all squeeze in and sleep. These two little brats can sleep in the stables!” Shiva gave Kadi a room to himself, looked at the little brats, and spat.
"Hehehe, alright. Thirty copper coins in total!"
"Would you like to check out the guest rooms now? How many guests are there?"
"No need, let's order some food first! We've been traveling for a long time, let's have some drinks!"
The group chose a seat and sat down. Several men had swords at their waists, and the surrounding guests automatically made way for them.
"Tch." Green curled his lip, preparing to check out the stables first. He'd slept in stables quite a bit along the way, so it was best to get along with the horses first, feed them, shovel their manure, and so on. Of course, if he was lucky, the walls were easy to climb and he could sleep on the roof, or there were plenty of sturdy branches around him, which was also a good option. After all, he didn't have much money in his pocket, so he had to be a little careful with his spending.
The men had traveled for too long and were busy replenishing their energy with a meal. They were too lazy to pay attention to Green, and they figured he wouldn't dare to run off under their watchful eyes.
Bazso watched Green leave, this time without waiting to see what they would leave behind, because once they got to the city they would drink until dark, and there wouldn't even be any bones left. He followed Green out.
"Hey, Green, wait for me!"
