Berserk: The Prophet

Chapter 118 Thunderstorm

"Da da"

Fetheus ran so fast his feet touched the ground that he didn't even have time to put on his shoes before he was out. The night patrol had just gone to the other side of the castle, and no one noticed that Fetheus had come out of his room.

Fetnas hesitated for a moment at the door before cautiously opening it. Although Green was fast asleep, he still noticed the subtle changes in the light inside the room. He frowned slightly. Thunder and lightning wouldn't wake him, but changes in light and being watched would instinctively make him uncomfortable—a vigilance he had developed on the battlefield.

Green slowly opened his eyes. When he saw someone at the door, he was startled and reached for his sword. Just as he was about to jump out of bed, he realized that the child was Fetnas, and his tense nerves immediately relaxed.

"Fertness?"

“I’m sorry… I disturbed you, Ryan… Can I sleep with you tonight? It’s thundering outside…” Fertnas said awkwardly, standing at the door, seeing that Green was still awake.

"Phew, of course you can. Why did you come barefoot? Come on in, don't catch a cold."

Green calmed his racing heart, got out of bed, put on his shoes, and, using the light from the window, took a pair of wooden slippers from the closet and handed them to Fetnas. Then, he casually carried Fetnas's blanket and pillow to the bed, yawned, and snuggled into the warm covers. In the late spring, when summer was approaching, the fireplace wouldn't be lit at night, and the stormy nights were still a bit chilly and damp. Green had no desire to get out of his warm bed.

"Thank you, Ryan."

Fettnas was a little taken aback by Green's quick movements, but since he had been given permission, they could squeeze together to rest. He put on his shoes, walked to the bedside, took off his soiled socks, and crawled into his own blanket. However, the thunder and rain outside continued, and just lying there made him feel nervous and scared, so he gripped the blanket tightly. Although Ryan was next to him, he was less afraid.

Aside from the thunder, the sound of rain outside was quite relaxing for Green. However, he was still a little uncomfortable with someone behind him and couldn't fall asleep, even though he used to sleep with Gus.

I wonder if he's taking good care of himself...

Green turned over and saw Fertness, who had huddled under the covers because of the thunder.

"..."

"Well?!"

Fertenas, who had just poked his head out, noticed that Green was staring at him intently. His face and ears instantly turned red. He was so scared that Green had seen him like that... He covered his face with the blanket again.

"I'm sorry, I... I'm just so afraid of thunder."

Fertenas mumbled something under the covers, while Green seemed to sense that some shrimp had cooked, and were a bright red one at that.

"I can't do anything with you, so let's just sleep together in each other's arms, hmm... that will make things much better."

Green naturally snuggled into Fetnas's blanket and hugged him, just like when he and Gus cuddled together to keep warm and fall asleep. His hands were really cold, and he seemed to be really scared. He patted Fetnas's back to comfort him.

It was unexpectedly reassuring. How could I feel so warm? The cold blankets suddenly warmed up when Green crawled in, just like... the sun?

My fear and anxiety have dissipated! It's truly unexpected; what a sturdy body! It's hard to believe this is a child...

Midnight arrived, and even thunder and lightning could not stop the wails of the vengeful spirits. Their cries, accompanied by thunder, were so eerie. They were roaring, and the emotions they exuded were pain.

Fertnas hugged Green's body tightly, burying himself in it. The wailing that usually terrified him didn't seem so scary anymore, but his body still trembled involuntarily.

Feeling the child trembling in his arms, Green could only hug him tightly and gently comfort him. He ruffled Fetnas's stray hairs; he must have just taken a bath tonight, as the scent of soap lingered in his nostrils.

Comforting children isn't entirely unfamiliar to me, since I mostly comforted Gus before he turned three.

Thunder rumbled and howls filled the air. Green frowned deeply. This world was far from peaceful. The so-called Child of Prophecy was just something that mysterious, glowing "old man" made up, but since then, apart from displaying the attribute panel as usual, the system hadn't given any response. Maybe it wasn't just a dream? The scab on his chest had already fallen off.

Thinking about these things, Green slowly closed his tired eyes and drifted off to sleep.

.........

Only the maid Nami, rubbing her sleepy eyes like a confused fool, stood at the door knocking as usual, preparing to coax the young master Fetnas, who was afraid of the cries of vengeful spirits, at midnight.

"knock knock"

"Young Master Fetnaus?"

She knocked once but received no response. Was he asleep? But the young master usually wasn't asleep at this time. Nami perked up a little and politely inquired in a low voice while leaning over the door.

"Young Master Fetnas, may I enter?"

Still no response. Nami cautiously pushed open the door and went closer to look, only to find that Fetnas was gone, along with his blanket and pillow!

"Young Master Fertness has disappeared!!"

Nami, who had just been dozing off, instantly perked up and ran out in a panic to find the guards on patrol that night, because Fetnas never left his room at night. Nami looked so anxious that she almost cried.

The guards on the entire floor were instantly thrown into chaos, splitting up to meet with the patrolling guards on the next floor. Even the lights in the castle were turned on all at once to search room by room, and it almost alerted the Holy Dragon Knights to capture the "thief".

After a while, the group heard the maid downstairs mumble that Fetnas had run to Ryan's room, since she lived not far from Ryan's room. She had just been woken up by the thunder and rain and thought she heard Fetnas's voice.

To make sure Fetnas was safe, Nami quietly went into Ryan's room and saw the two children sleeping soundly in each other's arms. She breathed a sigh of relief and came out of the room.

"Phew, thank goodness the young master is alright, I was so scared."

Nami touched her heart; if anything happened to Young Master Fetnas, she would be held responsible.

"Oh dear, we were so scared we almost went to call the men of the Knights. But this is really the first time the young master has left his room at night."

The patrol captain wiped the cold sweat from his forehead. He had really failed in his duty; he hadn't even noticed that young master Fetnas had sneaked out. If word got back to the master, he might lose his job. It seemed he would have to increase security and cover it up soon.

"Thank you so much for your help..."

"Ha, it's no big deal. If there's nothing else, go back and rest. Young Master finally has a good playmate."

"That's true, young master seems more cheerful than before."
