NBA's King of Talking

Chapter 11 Explosive Physical Qualities

Fortunately, after the test, Jia Fei was not found to have any disease. Thank goodness!

Jia Fei's test results are in:

Name: Jia Fei

After Jia Fei's test, it immediately caused a huge uproar at the scene. In terms of static physical attributes alone, his 201cm height and 220cm wingspan, while extremely impressive, are not unique. It's worth noting that another player on the same court, Kawhi Leonard from San Diego State University, also possesses similar physical attributes. However, when combined with his freakish dynamic physical attributes, he is truly one of a kind in the entire arena.

What's even more surprising is that Jia Fei is an East Asian with yellow skin and black eyes; from any perspective, he is not of mixed race.

Jia Fei felt that he had achieved his goal, or at least initially achieved it. He had previously been ignored by everyone, but now he had attracted the attention of many scouts, and the physical test alone had caused quite a stir.

"Jia, I just saw Thunder's general manager, Sam Presti, asking about you. You've successfully attracted everyone's attention, which is a great sign!" Kemba Walker said with a smile. He was genuinely happy for Jia Fei; of course, he wanted all four of them from UConn who came to the tryouts to be selected.

Jia Fei was naturally delighted: "That's great! I'm even more confident about the tests to come!"

After lunch and a short rest, the trial training continued in the afternoon.

In the afternoon, Jia Fei's trial training consisted of a shooting test, in which he had to shoot from a fixed spot within a specified time. The main purpose was to assess the shooter's ability.

Before the test, Jia Fei heard from Kemba Walker that the sharpshooter Klay Thompson from Washington State University, who had been tested before him, had a terrible record of 9 out of 25 three-point attempts.

Klay Thompson? That's Klay Thompson, one of the "Splash Brothers" from the past! That's the man who scored 37 points in a single quarter, that's the "Buddha" of Game 6 in the playoffs! For a natural sharpshooter like that, isn't taking an open shot as easy as drinking water?

But the reality is that even sharpshooters have their off days, and Klay Thompson just happened to have a bad day during his test, which could potentially affect his draft prospects.

The most jaw-dropping thing is that Jimmy Butler, the ice-cold shooter from Marquette University, made 18 of 25 shots!

"Keep it up!" Kemba Walker patted Jia Fei's pert bottom to encourage him.

Jia Fei gave Kemba Walker a meaningful look; he couldn't help but think his roommate was acting a bit gay today.

Jia Fei began testing, starting with mid-range shots and then three-pointers. The original owner was a player with decent shooting ability; not a sharpshooter, but definitely not an ice-cold shooter either.

The test began. Jia Fei adjusted his breathing, trying not to be too nervous or too excited. Shooting is different from dunking; being too excited isn't necessarily a good thing. True sharpshooters are generally very emotionally stable individuals.

The test began, with Jia Fei testing his shooting from various positions on the half-court. The mid-range shooting test quickly concluded, with 16 of 25 attempts, not bad. Next was the three-pointer, resulting in 13 of 25 attempts, just over 50% accuracy, acceptable as well.

After Jia Fei's shooting test, many scouts present quickly jotted down notes in their notebooks.

Jia Fei was fairly satisfied with his shooting today. He wasn't exactly a sharpshooter to begin with, and there's still a lot he needs to improve. As long as he's not labeled a "cold-blooded shooter," combined with his previously displayed explosive athleticism, he clearly has draft potential. His downside is that his season in the NCAA wasn't particularly memorable; his performance was too average, which makes many teams with first-round picks hesitant to take a gamble on him.

But Jia Fei knew very well that he couldn't control how others saw him. All he could do was to do his best and let others see his strengths. As for the outcome, he would leave it to fate.

The first day of trial training has ended, and Jia Fei feels generally satisfied.

That evening, Jeff Schwartz suddenly visited Chicago and invited Jia Fei and three others to dinner.

“Ja, according to my sources, quite a few teams are already paying attention to you!” Schwartz said.

“That’s a good thing!” Kemba Walker said with a smile.

Jia Fei smiled and nodded. This was certainly a good thing, considering his previous draft prospects were practically nonexistent.

While the joint tryouts are important, the individual tryouts that follow are even more crucial. Only when you receive a tryout invitation from a team do you truly have a chance to be selected.

"Do your best in tomorrow's five-on-five practice match. From what I understand, many team general managers will be there to watch. I've already arranged a worthy opponent for you. It's okay if you lose; just show them your strengths!" Schwartz instructed.

Jia Fei and the other three nodded.

Kemba Walker chuckled and clenched his fist: "Finally, I have a match to play! My body is practically rusting if I don't play!"

Before going to bed that night, Jia Fei checked his points, but the result disappointed him. He had only earned 7 points from the training and today's test, a far cry from the 1000 points he would get from completing a task.

It seems that relying on training and daily sleep to accumulate is too slow. I still need to do tasks, and also—talk back to people!

After checking the task list, Jia Fei felt somewhat helpless, as there were no tasks available for him to complete. It seemed his only option to earn points in the near future was to unleash his verbal skills and argue with people!

But the problem is, who should he criticize? He can't just criticize anyone for the sake of criticizing, and then go and criticize his teammates like Kemba Walker—that probably isn't a good idea! Since he can't criticize his teammates, he can only criticize the opponents. He thinks tomorrow's five-on-five scrim opponent is a good choice; he should find someone suitable to criticize!

After thinking it through, Jia Fei stopped overthinking and went straight to sleep.

On the second day, the joint training continued.

Having made a good impression on the scouts the day before, Jia Fei was full of confidence for today's training match.

Once they arrived at the venue, the four of them started practicing. He was eager to know who their opponents were and what kind of opponents Schwartz had arranged for them.

Soon enough, their opponent arrived!

Upon seeing his opponent, Jia Fei was genuinely delighted. Indeed, this opponent was incredibly talented!

The opposing team consists of five players: Derrick Williams, the top draft pick; Bismack Biyombo, the "African Mountain"; Tristan Thompson, the "frontboard fanatic"; Kawhi Leonard, the "expressionless"; and Brandon Knight, a guard from the University of Kentucky.
