"Gu Ye, Gu Ye!" Murong Xuewei rushed over and helped Gu Ye up.

Gu Ye's hand was still tightly holding the head of the gang.

With everyone's combined efforts, the two were finally rescued.

When they were rescued, they discovered that Gu Ye and the leader had numerous wounds of varying sizes, and the wounds were still bleeding.

"Quick, where's the doctor!" Murong Xuewei desperately covered the wound with her hand to stop the bleeding.

The group quickly moved the two people to a tent for treatment.

Gu Ye treated the patient inside the tent all night, while Murong Xuewei kept watch outside the tent all night.

As she watched basin after basin of bloody water being carried out, Murong Xuewei's heart clenched.

After a day and a night of intensive treatment, Gu Ye was finally out of danger.

Gu Ye lay on the simple bed, his face still pale, but thankfully he had been saved.

Murong Xuewei stayed by the bedside, occasionally gently stroking Gu Ye's forehead to check if his temperature was normal.

At this moment, Murong Xuewei's heart was filled with concern, yet also mixed with indescribable emotions.

"Gu Ye, you absolutely have to wake up!" she said softly, her voice tinged with anxiety.

When Gu Ye opened his eyes, he saw a haggard face and his beautiful eyes were bloodshot from lack of sleep.

Gu Ye gently patted Murong Xuewei's head, "Just have the servants watch over her."

“I don’t trust the servants; I can only feel at ease when I’m watching over you myself. You were in such great danger this time; you almost didn’t make it back.” As she spoke, Murong Xuewei’s eyes reddened further, and tears welled up in them.

A hint of tenderness flashed in Gu Ye's eyes. "So I won't get into any more trouble. Don't worry, I'll take good care of myself."

Murong Xuewei nodded, but her heart was filled with mixed feelings.

Murong Xuewei didn't know why she suddenly felt this way. She just felt as if her soul had been taken away the moment she saw Gu Ye buried under the rubble.

"By the way," Gu Ye suddenly sat up, though somewhat weak, he still tried to muster his strength, "how's the situation outside?"

“The stronghold has been captured, and Liuli and I brought all the villagers back.” Murong Xuewei’s voice was gentle yet firm. “Everything is safe now, you just need to focus on recovering.”

Gu Ye sighed softly, "After you left, the chief told me some things. Just as they were getting to a crucial point, one of his men suddenly pulled out a dagger and stabbed the chief. Fortunately, the chief reacted quickly and avoided a fatal wound."

"And then what happened?" Murong Xuewei stared intently at Gu Ye. "How could the cave have suddenly exploded?"

"When the assassination attempt failed, the man turned and ran. The leader and I tried to chase after him, but he pulled out a tube of explosives and threw it at us. I ran desperately towards the cave entrance, but I was still a step too late." Gu Ye sighed heavily.

Murong Xuewei was about to say something to comfort Gu Ye.

Liuli rushed in, holding a letter in her hand. "Madam, this was just found in the mountain stronghold."

Murong Xuewei took the letter, opened it, and her expression immediately changed. She handed the letter to Gu Ye, "Take a look at this."

Gu Ye took the letter, read it carefully, and frowned. "It seems that our enemy is more powerful than we imagined."

Murong Xuewei nodded, "There's another advantage: at least we know who our opponent is now."

Just then, a soldier rushed in, shouting in a panic, "General, Madam, something terrible has happened! Someone has broken in!"

Gu Ye immediately became alert. "Xue Wei, you should hide quickly."

No sooner had he finished speaking than a dark figure darted in through the window, a knife pointed directly at Gu Ye.

"Watch out!" Murong Xuewei shouted, instinctively lunging towards Gu Ye and shielding him with her body.

With a soft "thud," the blade pierced Murong Xuewei's back. She groaned, but still held tightly to Gu Ye.

"Xuewei!" Gu Ye cried out in alarm, trying to get up, but he was unable to move because his injuries had not yet healed.

The man in black was clearly taken aback by someone taking the blow for him and hesitated for a moment. Just then, Liuli and the guards rushed in.

"Protect the general and his wife!" Liuli shouted.

Seeing this, the man in black quickly jumped out of the window. Liuli immediately led her people in pursuit.

"Xuewei, how are you?" Gu Ye asked anxiously, carefully helping Murong Xuewei up.

Murong Xuewei forced a smile despite the pain, "It's nothing, just a superficial injury."

Looking at Murong Xuewei's pale face, Gu Ye felt both moved and guilty. "Why did you do this?"

Murong Xuewei said softly, "Because...because you are very important to me." Then, seemingly realizing what she had said, she quickly added, "I mean, you are my ally, and I can't let anything happen to you."

Gu Ye gazed intently at Murong Xuewei, his eyes filled with complex emotions. He wanted to say something, but didn't know where to begin.

Just then, Liuli ran back. "Madam, General, the assassin escaped, but we found this on his escape route."

Liuli handed over a jade pendant. Murong Xuewei took it and her expression changed drastically upon seeing it. "This is...this is a royal jade pendant!"

Gu Ye also recognized the jade pendant. "It seems our enemy is more powerful than we imagined."

Murong Xuewei nodded. "Yes, we must be even more careful. But no matter what, we must find out the truth."

Gu Ye grasped Murong Xuewei's hand and said firmly, "We'll be together. Whatever we encounter, we'll face it together."

Murong Xuewei looked into Gu Ye's eyes, and a warm feeling welled up in her heart. She knew that no matter how many difficulties and obstacles lay ahead, as long as Gu Ye was by her side, she would have the courage to face everything.

Just then, a commotion arose outside. Liuli hurriedly ran out to investigate and quickly returned to report, "Madam, General, something terrible has happened! An army has suddenly appeared outside the stronghold, and they look like royal troops!"

Gu Ye and Murong Xuewei exchanged a glance, both seeing wariness in each other's eyes.

“Tell them to wait a moment,” Murong Xuewei said in a deep voice, “We’ll be right out.”

After Liuli left, Gu Ye said in a low voice, "Be careful, these people have ulterior motives."

Murong Xuewei nodded. "I know, you should also be careful."

The two tidied their clothes and stepped out of the room. A group of people in official robes stood in the courtyard, led by a smiling middle-aged man.

"General Gu, Lady Murong," the man bowed respectfully, "this humble official has come on the Emperor's orders to offer condolences. I heard the General was injured; may I ask how his injuries are?"

Gu Ye smiled slightly, "Thank you for your concern, Your Majesty. I'm much better now."

The man nodded. "That's good. By the way, His Majesty also ordered me to bring some tonics, hoping to help the general recover soon."

As he spoke, he gestured for the servants behind him to come forward and present an exquisite wooden box.
