Murong Xuewei stood up, looking down at him: "Jiang Lingyun, have you thought this through?"

Jiang Lingyun was taken aback, clearly not expecting Murong Xuewei to react this way. He had thought Murong Xuewei would be angry and question him, but he hadn't expected her to be so calm.

“I understand.” Jiang Lingyun quickly regained her composure. “If eldest sister doesn’t agree…”

"If I don't agree, you'll kill my whole family?" Murong Xuewei chuckled, but her eyes were filled with icy coldness. "Jiang Lingyun, do you really think I'll let you have your way?"

Jiang Lingyun sneered, "This isn't fulfilling my brother-in-law's wish, but rather yours, eldest sister! Don't you want to see your parents, eldest sister?"

Murong Xuewei lowered her head and pondered for a moment, "Do you need my permission to want the Murong family's wealth? Aren't you currently occupying the Murong family's house?"

"Is my elder sister joking with me?" Jiang Lingyun looked at Murong Xuewei with a cold gaze. "Everyone knows that the Murong family's wealth is comparable to that of a nation. They have businesses throughout the country, even in Qu Kingdom, Nanzhao, and some peripheral small countries. Others may not know this, but I do. Your Murong family possesses a token that can command all of the Murong family's shops. I've already found the other half of this token on my father-in-law. As for the remaining half, it depends on whether my elder sister is willing to give it up."

"So eager to get it?" Murong Xuewei subtly surveyed her surroundings, her gaze sweeping over the unfamiliar guards' faces. "Aren't you afraid I'll give you a fake?"

Just as Jiang Lingyun was about to speak, a series of hurried footsteps suddenly came from outside. Xiao Cui subconsciously took a step back, while Liu Li gripped the porcelain bottle in her sleeve tightly, a hint of panic flashing in her eyes.

"Don't be afraid, big sister." Jiang Lingyun's face revealed a confident smile. "These are all our own people."

"Our own people?" Murong Xuewei sneered, lightly tapping the table with her jade-like fingers. "Jiang Lingyun, do you really believe it yourself that these soldiers who are so fiercely guarding me are our own people?"

Jiang Lingyun stepped forward slowly and placed half of the token on the table: "Elder sister, time is running out. Should we hand over the token or not?"

"You seem to be in such a hurry." Murong Xuewei's expression remained unchanged, her slender fingers lightly touching her sleeve, but a deep meaning flashed in her eyes. "Are you afraid that the one behind you can't wait any longer?"

Jiang Lingyun's smile faltered slightly: "What do you mean by this, eldest sister?"

“It's nothing.” Murong Xuewei stood up and slowly walked to the window. The crabapple blossoms in the courtyard were in full bloom, their pink and white petals drifting down in the breeze. “I was just wondering, why would a dignified envoy from Nanzhao care so much about a mere storeroom token?”

“You…” Jiang Lingyun’s expression suddenly changed.

Seeing the change in Jiang Lingyun's expression, Liuli stood behind Murong Xuewei and quietly asked, "Big sister, he..."

"Shh," Murong Xuewei interrupted softly, her gaze still fixed on the falling petals in the courtyard. "Just watch."

"Murong Xuewei!" Jiang Lingyun slammed his hand on the table, making the teacup jump. "Stop spreading these alarmist rumors! If you don't hand over the token, don't blame me..."

"What if I blame you?" Murong Xuewei turned around, a cold glint in her eyes. "You killed my whole family? If you dare to lay a hand on me, I guarantee you'll never get the token again. Jiang Lingyun, do you really think the person behind you would let you do this?" Her voice carried a hint of sarcasm. "Or are you making this decision on your own, without even the person behind you knowing?"

These words seemed to strike a nerve with Jiang Lingyun; his face turned pale and then flushed, and his fingers clenched involuntarily: "You... what exactly do you know?"

“I know.” Murong Xuewei sat back down in the main seat, slowly straightening her sleeves. “It’s far more than you imagine.” She slowly took out a letter from her sleeve; the handwriting on the paper was somewhat faded.

"I wonder if Lord Jiang still remembers?" Murong Xuewei toyed with the letter in her hand, a meaningful look in her eyes. "Back in Taichu, the Nanzhao envoy was a guest of honor of the former Empress Xiao Wanning. At that welcoming banquet, it's said that the Empress and the Nanzhao envoy had a very pleasant conversation. You were there then, weren't you?"

"You..." Jiang Lingyun's eyes darkened, her fingers unconsciously tightening their grip on her sleeve. "How did you know?"

“Why would I know? No need for you to worry, Lord Jiang.” Murong Xuewei chuckled, setting down her teacup. “Lord Jiang is overthinking it. These things can be easily found out by asking around.” She placed the letter on the table, slowly sipping her tea. “I’m just curious, why has ***, who always stayed secluded, suddenly become so close to that Nanzhao?”

Jiang Lingyun's expression changed slightly, and she said coldly, "What do you mean by that, eldest sister?"

"It's nothing," Murong Xuewei said unhurriedly. "Women, you know! They're naturally fond of gossip and such. I was just curious and wanted to ask."

Jiang Lingyun's expression was uncertain, and after a long while, she finally said, "What exactly are you trying to say?"

Murong Xuewei smiled, but her eyes held a cold glint. "I'm just curious, why would such a large country as Nanzhao be so interested in my Murong family? Could it be that my family possesses some treasure?"

Xiao Cui watched the two of them go back and forth, and couldn't help but hold her breath. Liu Li's hands also tightened their grip, afraid that the situation would get out of control if she wasn't careful.

“Murong Xuewei.” Jiang Lingyun suddenly sneered, a hint of malice flashing in his eyes. “Are you trying to trick me? Or…” He slowly walked to the window, looking at the petals falling in the courtyard, “Do you think you’re still the high and mighty empress in the capital?”

"Isn't that right?" Murong Xuewei's expression remained unchanged.

"Hahaha, the Empress?" Jiang Lingyun turned around, a hint of contempt in her eyes. "In this Jiangnan region, who still recognizes you as the Empress?"

"It seems Lord Jiang has found someone to rely on." Murong Xuewei stood up and slowly walked to Jiang Lingyun. "I wonder, who gave you this audacity?"

"Guards!" Jiang Lingyun suddenly shouted sternly.

Several guards rushed in from outside the hall and surrounded it. Liuli subconsciously moved closer to Murong Xuewei, and Xiaocui nervously clutched the hem of her clothes.

"Murong Xuewei, you're too clever." Jiang Lingyun stood up, looking down at her. "Unfortunately, you should know very well the consequences of being too clever."

He clapped his hands, and two more guards entered the hall, dragging a man covered in wounds. The man was dressed in rags, but one could still discern some of his former dashing appearance.

"Big Brother!" Murong Xuewei stood up abruptly, her voice trembling. Liuli exclaimed in surprise, and Xiaocui's eyes immediately welled up with tears.

Murong Qingyu raised her head, blood still stained the corner of her mouth, but her eyes remained clear: "Xue Wei... why are you here... let's go..."

"Leave?" Jiang Lingyun interrupted with a cold laugh. "Trying to leave now? Isn't it a bit too late?" He turned to Murong Xuewei. "What? This is just the beginning. If you don't hand over the token, your parents and uncles and aunts will suffer even worse fates."

Murong Xuewei stared intently at Jiang Lingyun: "You dare!"

"What's there to be afraid of?" Jiang Lingyun walked up to Murong Qingyu and kicked her. "Want to let your eldest sister see how long your beloved brother can hold out?"

"Stop!" A hint of panic flashed in Murong Xuewei's eyes, and her voice trembled slightly.

Seeing Murong Xuewei's unprecedented loss of composure, Liuli said with heartache, "Elder sister..."

"Where's the token?" Jiang Lingyun turned to look at her. "My patience is limited."

Murong Xuewei bit her lip, her fingers digging deeply into her palms. Outside the window, the crabapple petals continued to fall, making the atmosphere inside the room even more oppressive.

“I’ll give you…three breaths to consider,” Jiang Lingyun said slowly, a cruel glint in his eyes. “If you don’t hand over the token…” he said, raising his foot to kick Murong Qingyu again.

"You beast!" Liuli was about to step forward when Murong Xuewei grabbed her arm.

"Jiang Lingyun." Murong Xuewei took a deep breath, her voice trembling slightly, a tremor she herself didn't even realize. "Have you thought this through?"
