Memories of her past life flooded back like a tide: the riots in the capital, the chaos in the Taichu Kingdom, all sorts of forces wanting a piece of the pie, the massacre of the entire Murong family... every scene was as clear as yesterday.

At the time, everyone said that Gu Ye was forced to launch the rebellion, but if he really was a descendant of the previous dynasty, then all of this would make sense.

No wonder Gu Ye cared so much about this jade pendant, no wonder Uncle Lin always harbored resentment towards her... all the doubts seemed to point to a fact she was unwilling to accept.

Murong Xuewei spent another sleepless night, burdened by her worries.

The next day, the wind chimes on the eaves tinkled softly, startling a sparrow that was pecking at food in the courtyard.

Murong Xuewei stood under the corridor, watching the sparrow flutter away, her eyes flickering slightly. She gently stroked her slightly protruding belly, a bitter smile appearing on her lips.

"Madam, Uncle Lin went to the west side of the city again today," Liuli whispered in Murong Xuewei's ear as she walked quickly over. "He also met with several people who looked like merchants."

Murong Xuewei nodded slightly, a sharp glint in her eyes. "Have you been able to find out the origins of those merchants?"

"They were all martial arts practitioners in disguise. My men followed them for a while and found that they eventually went into a weapons shop." Liuli hesitated as she said this.

"Go on."

"That shop... there have been frequent visits lately, all at night. I've tried to get closer to investigate, but there are always sentries blocking my way."

Murong Xuewei turned and walked towards her courtyard, with Liuli following closely behind.

As soon as they entered the courtyard, they saw Gu Ye's confidant, Commander Zhao, exchanging instructions with the guards in the courtyard.

Upon seeing Murong Xuewei, Commander Zhao immediately bowed and greeted her: "Madam."

"Commander Zhao, what is this...?" Murong Xuewei raised an eyebrow.

"The general ordered more men to protect the lady's safety," Commander Zhao replied. "The general said the lady is pregnant, so extra caution is necessary."

Murong Xuewei's lips curled into a faint smile: "General, you've gone to so much trouble." Turning to Liuli, she said, "Go prepare the carriage; I want to visit the Murong family's old residence."

“Madam, the general says you should stay home as much as possible these days…” Commander Zhao hurriedly stepped forward.

"What, now you even want to control me when I go back to my own home?" Murong Xuewei's tone suddenly turned cold.

Commander Zhao's forehead was beaded with sweat, and he had no choice but to take a step back: "Your subordinate will go and prepare the carriage immediately."

After Commander Zhao left, Liuli leaned closer to Murong Xuewei: "Madam, didn't you say you were going to...?"

"Shh." Murong Xuewei gestured for silence. "Go prepare the carriage."

Liuli understood and quickly left. Murong Xuewei looked up at the setting sun, a resolute glint in her eyes.

As night deepened, the lights in the General's Mansion gradually came on. Murong Xuewei sat under the lamp, holding a storybook in her hands, seemingly relaxed and at ease.

Only when the night watchman's gong sounded did she put down her book and say to Liuli, who was standing guard beside her, "Go and see."

Liuli tiptoed outside to investigate, and returned shortly after: "Madam, the General is still in the study."

Murong Xuewei stood up and straightened her clothes: "Is everything ready?"

"Everything is ready; the secret passage is unguarded."

Murong Xuewei nodded, then summoned her personal maid: "I'm tired and need to rest. No one is allowed to disturb me."

After the maidservant acknowledged and withdrew, Murong Xuewei tiptoed to the shadowy area behind the house.

Liuli was already waiting there, carrying a small glass lamp in her hand.

The two walked briskly along a secluded spot in the mansion and soon arrived at the backyard of the study.

“Madam, please be careful, you are pregnant…” Liuli helped Murong Xuewei through a low wall.

Murong Xuewei waved her hand, indicating that Liuli didn't need to say anything more. She walked slowly along the wall until she arrived at the back window of the study.

Faint voices could be heard coming from inside the window, but the voices were so soft that they were not clearly audible.

Murong Xuewei frowned, about to turn around, when she suddenly heard footsteps approaching from afar.

Her heart tightened, and she quickly slipped into a dark corner on one side of the study.

By the moonlight, she could see that the person who came was Uncle Lin, followed by a burly man carrying a heavy box.

The two entered the study, and Murong Xuewei held her breath and listened intently, pressing close to the wall.

"Young Master, everything is here." The burly man's voice came from inside.

"Okay, put it down." It was Gu Ye's voice. "Has anyone noticed anything unusual lately?"

"My subordinates have made proper arrangements; no one will suspect anything."

"Give me the roster," Uncle Lin said.

After a rustling of papers, Uncle Lin added, "We have enough weapons, but we're still short on gunpowder."

Murong Xuewei's heart skipped a beat, and her hand unconsciously went to her lower abdomen.

"The time is ripe; we can't wait any longer," Uncle Lin said with a hint of urgency. "The tyrannical emperor has already begun to suspect something; if we delay any longer, I'm afraid..."

“I know,” Gu Ye interrupted Uncle Lin, “but now is not the time.”

"Is it because of that woman from the Murong family?" Uncle Lin's voice suddenly rose, then fell again. "Young Master, you haven't forgotten our grand plan, have you?"

There was silence in the room.

"I think..." The burly man was about to speak when Gu Ye interrupted him.

"You may all leave now."

As the footsteps faded into the distance, Murong Xuewei was about to turn and leave when she suddenly felt a sharp pain in her abdomen.

She endured the pain and tried to move, but stumbled and bumped into the flower stand behind her. With a crash, the porcelain basin shattered.

The talking in the study stopped abruptly.

"Who?" Gu Ye's voice was sharp.

Murong Xuewei leaned against the wall, cold sweat trickling down her forehead. Knowing she couldn't escape, she straightened up and stepped out from the shadows.

Under the moonlight, Gu Ye's expression shifted between light and shadow, while Uncle Lin looked furious.

"What brings you to the study so late at night, Madam?" Gu Ye's voice was as cold as ice.

Murong Xuewei gave a cold laugh: "General, why don't you explain first what these weapons and gunpowder are for?"

"Young Master, we can't let her..." Uncle Lin said urgently.

"Shut up!" Gu Ye shouted sternly.

Uncle Lin, however, disregarded everything: "She already knows too much, she must..."

"You dare!" Gu Ye stepped forward and blocked Murong Xuewei's path.

Uncle Lin's face turned ashen: "Young Master, the greater cause is paramount! I have a colorless and odorless poison here that will only make her lose her voice..."

"Shut up!" Gu Ye roared. "Anyone who dares to touch her, I'll take their life!"

Murong Xuewei leaned against the wall as another wave of excruciating pain struck. She bit her lip, trying to stifle any sound, but tears were already welling up in her eyes.

Gu Ye turned around and saw her pained expression, his heart breaking. He reached out to support her, but she turned away.

"Xuewei..." Gu Ye's voice trembled slightly.

"Who exactly are you?" Murong Xuewei stared intently into his eyes. "In all these years, have you ever told the truth?"

Gu Ye opened his mouth, but found himself speechless.

Just then, hurried footsteps sounded in the distance. Liuli, accompanied by several guards, rushed over: "Madam!"

With her last ounce of strength, Murong Xuewei said coldly, "Gu Ye, I will never believe you again."
