"Just as I thought," Uncle Lin muttered to himself, "It seems things are more complicated than I imagined."

He looked around to make sure no one was there, then quickly left a mark on the tree and hurried away.

As night fell, Murong Xuewei anxiously awaited Gu Ye's return. When she heard footsteps, she immediately went out to greet him.

"General, how is it?" she asked anxiously.

Gu Ye shook his head, his face grim. "The Emperor doesn't seem to care about Nangong Yifeng's disappearance. On the contrary, he..." Gu Ye hesitated for a moment, then continued, "He keeps asking you why you didn't come to the palace with him."

Murong Xuewei's heart skipped a beat. "It seems the Emperor's feelings for me run deeper than we imagined."

Gu Ye nodded. "We must be extra careful. The current situation is no longer just a matter of negotiations between the two countries; it involves a power struggle within the imperial court."

Just then, Liuli rushed over, "Madam, General, we've found some clues!"

Murong Xuewei and Gu Ye exchanged a glance and immediately pressed for details. Liuli told them about the scratches she had discovered.

"Is that all?" Gu Ye asked.

Liuli nodded. "Yes. Uncle Lin told me to come back first, saying he needed to check the surroundings more carefully."

Murong Xuewei pondered, "This scratch...could it have been deliberately left by Nangong Yifeng?"

Gu Ye pondered for a moment, "Very likely. However, we need more evidence."

Liuli looked anxiously at Murong Xuewei, "Madam, I can go look again. I believe I can find even more evidence."

Murong Xuewei and Gu Ye exchanged a glance, and Murong Xuewei nodded, "Alright! But you must be careful."

Liuli hurried along, weaving through the back alleys of the capital.

Liuli's eyes were wary, and she would occasionally look back to see if anyone was following her.

The disappearance of Nangong Yifeng has made the situation even more tense, and she now shoulders the important task of finding clues.

Finally, at the entrance of a narrow alley, Liuli saw a hunched old woman.

The old woman huddled in the corner, holding several rough handkerchiefs in her hands, staring blankly into the distance. Liuli took a deep breath and slowly approached.

“Grandma,” Liuli called softly, “I have a few questions for you.”

The old woman raised her cloudy eyes and warily examined Liuli. "Young lady, this old woman knows nothing," she said in a hoarse voice, tinged with suspicion.

Liuli crouched down to be at eye level with the old woman. "Grandma, I just want to know what happened in this alley last night. If you know, could you tell me?"

A flicker of hesitation crossed the old woman's eyes, before she regained her guard. "Young lady, nothing happened in this alley. If you want to buy a handkerchief, I can sell it to you for a discount."

Liuli's heart skipped a beat; she realized the old woman might know something, but was unwilling to speak easily. She pretended to be interested in the handkerchief and examined it closely. "Grandma, this handkerchief is so well made. How much does it cost?"

The old woman seemed relieved and began to chatter on about the prices of the handkerchiefs. Liuli listened patiently, nodding occasionally. Finally, after some haggling, Liuli said, "Grandma, I'll take them all. However, I have a small request."

The old woman looked at Liuli warily, waiting for her to continue.

Liuli lowered her voice and said, "Grandma, I want to know what happened here last night. If you're willing to tell me, I'll not only buy these handkerchiefs, but I'm also willing to give you more money."

A flicker of struggle crossed the old woman's eyes, but ultimately, greed triumphed over fear. She glanced around, making sure no one was watching, before whispering, "Young lady, you must understand, this is a matter of life and death."

Liuli was overjoyed and quickly nodded, "Don't worry, Mother-in-law, I will never implicate you."

The old woman took a deep breath and slowly recounted, "Just after midnight last night, I heard a commotion outside. Peeking through the crack in the window, I saw a group of men in black carrying a young man who was unconscious. The young man was handsome, like a son of a wealthy family."

Liuli's heart raced, and she pressed, "Grandma, do you remember which direction those men in black went?"

The old woman shook her head: "It was too dark, I couldn't see clearly. I only remember they went east of the city."

Having already made up her mind, Liuli asked a few more questions to confirm her suspicions. Then, she bought all the handkerchiefs and gave the old woman extra money. Before leaving, she solemnly instructed, "Grandma, this matter is of great importance. Please do not mention it to anyone."

The old woman nodded repeatedly: "Don't worry, young lady, I'd like to live a few more years."

Liuli hurried away, her heart filled with mixed joy and worry. She had finally found a clue to Nangong Yifeng's disappearance, but things seemed to be more complicated than she had imagined.

Liuli rushed into the courtyard, her face beaming with excitement. She looked around and finally found Murong Xuewei deep in thought in the garden pavilion.

"Madam! I've found a clue!" Liuli said breathlessly, her voice filled with barely suppressed joy.

Murong Xuewei raised her head, a glint of shrewdness flashing in her eyes. She gestured for Liuli to sit down and calmly asked, "Tell me about it."

Liuli took a deep breath to calm herself, and then began to recount her story: "I found an old woman in the back alley where Nangong Yifeng lives. I used the pretext of buying a handkerchief to ask her about what happened last night."

Murong Xuewei frowned slightly, a hint of doubt flashing in her eyes. "Have you found out anything?"

"My mother-in-law told me that she saw a group of men in black drug Nangong Yifeng and take him away that night," Liuli said in a low voice, a hint of worry flashing in her eyes.

Murong Xuewei frowned after hearing this. She pondered for a moment, then said to Liuli, "Go and bring that old woman here. I want to ask her for details myself."

Liuli nodded in agreement and turned to leave.

A short while later, Liuli rushed in, her face pale. "Madam, something has happened!"

Murong Xuewei looked up alertly, her sharp gaze fixed on Liuli: "What's going on?"

Liuli took a deep breath, her voice trembling slightly: "When I went to find that old woman again... I discovered she was dead."

The air seemed to freeze for a moment. Murong Xuewei's eyes turned icy, her voice low and dangerous: "Dead? How did he die?"

Liuli shook her head, her eyes filled with fear: "I...I don't know. But I suspect...I suspect someone discovered our investigation into Nangong Yifeng, so they sent someone to kill Granny."

Murong Xuewei remained silent for a moment, a hint of doubt flashing in her eyes. "So fast," she murmured to herself, "Could it be Xiao Wanning? No, wait! In such a short time, you only managed to get some clues, and then your mother-in-law was silenced. Unless..."

She didn't finish speaking, but Liuli already understood what she meant. The two exchanged a glance, both seeing worry and wariness in each other's eyes.
