Mengmeng, her secret exposed, could no longer hold back and burst into tears. She scrambled out of the bushes, threw herself into Xie Yumin's arms, and sobbed as she pulled out the paint box: "I...I didn't mean to...I just..."

Xie Yumin gently wiped away the tears and dirt from her daughter's face. Although she didn't ask any questions, she seemed to have already seen through everything. So she patiently advised, "I know, baby, sometimes when we like someone too much, we're afraid of losing them, right?"

Mengmeng nodded, tears welling up again. She clutched her mother's clothes tightly, choking back sobs as she asked, "Will Xingxing hate me?"

"Go ask him what he's like?" Xie Yumin smiled and pointed behind her.

Not far away, Xingxing was standing under the cherry blossom tree, her eyes red and her hand clutching a crumpled piece of drawing paper.

Mengmeng mustered her courage and slowly walked towards the star, but with each step, the little girl felt her heart beat faster involuntarily.

When she stood in front of the stars, neither of them dared to look the other in the eye.

"I'm sorry..." Mengmeng spoke first, her voice so soft it was almost inaudible, "I hid your paint... because I..."

She choked up slightly as she said this, "I'm jealous that you won the award..."

Xingxing lowered her head, her long eyelashes casting shadows on her face, and silence, like a heavy ball of cotton, weighed down between the two children.

Finally, Xingxing reached out and handed the crumpled piece of drawing paper to Mengmeng. On the paper was a rainbow, with a tiny moon embedded in each ray of color. At the bottom, written in a crooked hand, were the words: "To Mengmeng, my best friend."

"This is... for me?" Mengmeng took the painting, her fingers trembling slightly, and she couldn't help but start to cry.

She nodded, her voice as soft as a feather, yet her tone unusually firm: "You taught me...to draw a rainbow...I want to draw...a rainbow with a moon...for you..."

Mengmeng's tears fell onto the drawing paper in a steady stream. She suddenly understood that Xingxing had never thought of taking anything away from her; he was simply cherishing their friendship in his own way.

"I was wrong..." Mengmeng sobbed as she shoved the paint box into Xingxing's hand, her face full of earnest questioning.

"Here, take this back...Are we still good friends?"

Xingxing didn't answer immediately. Instead, she opened the paint box, took out a brush, added a few strokes on the back of the drawing paper, and then handed it to Mengmeng.

Two little figures holding hands have appeared on top, one with hair like a cute ponytail, and the other wearing the blue T-shirt that Xingxing often wears.

“Forever.” Star spoke earnestly, the most complete word he had ever uttered.

Mengmeng couldn't hold back any longer and hugged Xingxing tightly. The two children cried together under the cherry blossom tree, but this time the tears were different. It was as if they washed away some invisible barrier and brought their hearts closer together.

That evening, Gu Yinshen ended his business meeting early and rushed home. Xie Yumin told him about what had happened during the day in the study.

"Mengmeng is jealous?" Gu Yinshen was somewhat surprised when he heard about it, then nodded knowingly as if he had thought of something.

"Yes, she's still a child herself, and it's tough for her to always play the role of caregiver."

“I’m more worried about Xingxing,” Xie Yumin said, letting out a slight sigh before murmuring, “That box of paints meant a lot to him, but he chose to forgive.”

Gu Yinshen seemed lost in thought, a barely perceptible glint in his eyes, before speaking again: "The children have taught us more than we have taught them."

The next morning, Mengmeng, with her hair all messy, knocked on Xingxing's door, holding two brand-new sketchbooks in her hand.

"I have an idea!" the little girl exclaimed excitedly, and then explained her thoughts.

“We can create a picture book together! You draw the moon part, and I'll draw the rainbow part, and together we'll have ‘The Story of the Moon and the Rainbow’!”

Xingxing blinked, then slowly smiled, seemingly pleased with Mengmeng's idea. He took the sketchbook and nodded gently.

And so began the two children's first collaborative creation.

At first, the two children did not cooperate smoothly. After all, Mengmeng was used to do doodles at a fast pace, while Xingxing thought carefully about every stroke. The two were not always in sync.

Sometimes Mengmeng likes to tell stories to herself while drawing, while Xingxing needs absolute quiet.

But gradually, they found their own balance.

In the morning, Xingxing took the lead, drawing the night sky and moon, which he was good at, and Mengmeng cooperated obediently. In the afternoon, Mengmeng made the arrangements, and Xingxing also obediently complied.

Xie Yumin often stood at the entrance of the studio, watching the heartwarming scene of the two little heads huddled together creating art, and a gentle smile would unconsciously appear on her lips.

Xingxing began experimenting with more colors, while Mengmeng learned to slow down and enjoy the painting itself rather than the result. They learned from and influenced each other, just like true partners.

A week later, when professional art teacher Su Yuan came to "Starry Home" for her first class, she was amazed by the picture book drafts that the two children had collaborated on.

“This is incredible,” Su Yuan exclaimed, flipping through the sketches. She couldn’t help but remark to Xie Yumin beside her, “Xingxing’s grasp of light and shadow is genius, and Mengmeng’s sense of color is outstanding! Their styles are completely different, yet they harmonize remarkably well together.”

Xie Yumin smiled and nodded, a satisfied look on her face: "Just like them."

Su Yuan couldn't help but look forward to teaching the two children in the future.

After officially becoming Xingxing's art teacher, she developed a special learning plan for the two children.

Three classes a week, with half an hour of individual guidance in the first half hour and a collaborative creation session in the second hour. Although Mengmeng is not a formal student, Su Yuan found that her presence made Xingxing more relaxed and more efficient in her studies.

"Today we'll try watercolors," Su Yuan said suddenly during the fifth period, after she had gradually gotten to know the two children. "You can paint the stars, whichever you're good at, the night sky, and Mengmeng will add the rainbow."

The star obediently nodded, then carefully dipped its brush in blue paint and used it to create varying shades of the night sky on the paper.

Mengmeng waited to the side, preparing her rainbow colors. When Xingxing finished drawing the last star, he gently pushed the drawing paper toward Mengmeng, his eyes filled with anticipation.

Mengmeng took a deep breath, dipped her brush in red paint, and drew a vibrant rainbow in the night sky. She didn't notice that as she painted, Xingxing's gaze followed her brush, a faint smile playing on her lips.

"Perfect!" Su Yuan couldn't help but exclaim after seeing the two children's finished work. "Xingxing, you are really amazing and talented. The cute rainbow brings new hope. This is the charm of art. You two are the most harmonious."
