"What if I never want to show my face?"

Gu Yinshen suddenly stood up, the hem of his suit jacket sweeping across the table, rustling the documents. As he approached, the cedarwood perfume he wore carried an air of pressure. "Miss Xie, how do you plan to cover up this lie?"

There's no need to lie.

Xie Yumin straightened her back, and her eyelashes did not tremble when she looked at the other person.

"I will truthfully inform the client that you have an emergency that requires your personal attention."

"However, to express our apologies, the group has arranged for the most professional team to handle the matter, and has also included exclusive preferential terms."

She pulled a notepad from her briefcase, quickly wrote down a few lines of numbers, and pushed it over. "These are the bottom lines for compromise, which will not harm the company's interests but will also show sincerity."

An eerie silence fell over the conference room.

The CFO discreetly adjusted his glasses, the risk control manager silently took notes in his notebook, and even the chestnut-haired girl forgot to mock him, staring wide-eyed at the neatly written note.

Gu Yinshen stared at the numbers on the note, his Adam's apple bobbing twice.

He suddenly grabbed the coffee cup beside him, only to find it was already empty; his knuckles made a slight cracking sound as he gripped the handle. "Not bad at adapting."

He slammed the cup down, and as he turned around, a cold glint flashed in his glasses.

That concludes today's interview.

Gu Yinshen ripped off his tie and threw it on the table, then walked towards the lounge without looking back. "Xie Yumin, wait for further notice."

The moment the door slammed shut, the entire conference room erupted in long-suppressed murmurs.

The chestnut-haired girl gritted her teeth and slammed the door shut as she left, while the other examiners swarmed around her, vying to get Xie Yumin's contact information.

Xie Yumin quietly packed her things, her gaze inadvertently sweeping over the closed door of the lounge.

When Xie Yumin walked out of the Gu's Building, the twilight had already dyed half the sky red. Her phone vibrated three times in her bag, but she didn't dare to look at it until she stood in front of the moldy mirror in her rented room and noticed that her palms had crescent-shaped bloody marks from being pinched by her fingernails.

The next morning, before the alarm clock rang, Gu Yinshen called.

"Arrive at the company in ten minutes and use the employee entrance."

His voice crackled with static, "Don't keep me waiting."

As the elevator ascended, Xie Yumin tidied her hair in front of the mirror.

The corridor on the 28th floor was eerily quiet until the door to the president's office was pushed open, and a rich aroma of coffee wafted out.

Ruolan was sitting on the guest sofa, her nail-painted fingers slowly twirling a pen: "I thought some people wouldn't dare to come."

Gu Yinshen didn't even look up, a thick stack of documents spread out in front of him: "From today onwards, Xie Yumin will be in charge of my schedule and document organization."

He slammed a stack of reports on the table, the sound of the papers hitting each other startling Ruolan so much that her eyelashes fluttered.

"Also, redo last month's financial analysis, using your mathematical skills."

Just as Xie Yumin reached for the document, Ruolan suddenly stood up, the stiletto heels of her high heels grinding heavily against the instep of her foot.

The excruciating pain turned Xie Yumin's face deathly pale instantly, and her shocked and angry gaze went straight into Ruolan's eyes.

"Oh, sorry, I didn't see it."

She stared at Xie Yumin's disheveled appearance, her jealousy almost overflowing. She suddenly turned to look at Gu Yinshen and asked in a sharp voice, "Gu Yinshen, what are you thinking?"

"You want someone who knows nothing to be your secretary?"

"She only shows this panicked expression when she's stepped on, how can she help you handle company affairs?"

"Or do you have some special feelings for her, which is why you're so disregarding the company's image?"

"Do I need your approval for my decisions?"

Gu Yinshen finally raised his head, his gaze sweeping over Ruolan's instantly pale face.

"Secretary Xie, please prepare today's meeting minutes and hand them to me before you leave work."

He paused, then added, "Also, you'd better dress like a secretary tomorrow..."

The moment Ruolan slammed the door and left, Xie Yumin heard her cursing in the corridor.

Gu Yinshen had already put on his headphones and continued working on the documents, as if the confrontation had never happened.

Xie Yumin stepped out of the office carrying the reports, and the air conditioning in the corridor mixed with the smell of disinfectant hit her.

Before I had taken three steps, a sharp sound of high heels came from behind.

"Xie Yumin!"

Ruolan, her hand painted with scarlet nail polish, suddenly pressed down on the document, pinning her against the cold glass wall.

"Does he really think that by attaching himself to Gu Yinshen, he can gain a foothold in the Gu family?"

Ruolan's perfume carried an air of anger. "When I first heard that Gu Yinshen was looking for a secretary, I thought it was someone important..."

"Xie Yumin, do you have no shame at all?"

She suddenly grabbed Xie Yumin's tie, her exquisite makeup contorted into a grotesque expression. "Knowing you have no money, now that Gu Yinshen is giving you a little something, you shamelessly sidle up to him?"

A murmur of conversation arose from the surroundings. Several female employees from the administration department approached, carrying coffee cups.

Someone whispered.

"So this is the kind of person Mr. Gu's new secretary is..."

"That kind of woman is really shameless."

"Maybe she just wants to climb the social ladder."

Xie Yumin felt a sharp pain in her back from the glass, but she gripped the report tightly to prevent it from falling.

"release."

She stared at the false eyelashes at the corner of Ruolan's eyes, her voice sounding like it was being squeezed out from between her teeth, "I'm here to work, it's none of your business."

"Work?"

Ruolan suddenly let go, and Xie Yumin staggered back half a step.

"What kind of workplace elite is this useless person who can't even do basic operations?"

"You're just trying to get close to Yin Shen through work!"

She shoved her finger in front of Xie Yumin's eyes, and the surrounding area burst into laughter.

Just as Xie Yumin's nails were almost digging into her palm, a clearing of the throat suddenly came from around the corner.

As Gu Yinshen leaned against the pillar, his gloating smiles froze on his face when he glanced at the crowd.

"Are we having a tea party here?"

His leather shoes clicked on the marble floor as he stopped in front of Xie Yumin. "Come with me. There are a few documents that need your attention."

The office door closed behind him, and Gu Yinshen slowly sat back in his executive chair, a playful smile in his eyes: "Secretary Xie, you've only been here a short time, and you've already made a name for yourself in the company?"

"How did it feel to be bullied by Ruolan? Do you regret coming here to make a living?"

Xie Yumin's knuckles turned white as she gripped the report. She forced herself to remain calm and spoke in a steady voice, "If President Gu wants to tease me, please let me finish my work first."

"After all, the meeting minutes and financial analysis you requested have time limits."

"What's the rush?"

Gu Yinshen walked around to the desk and sat down, tapping his fingers on the surface intermittently. "I noticed you were quite patient when Ruolan cornered you in the corridor earlier."

"What, you can't keep up the tough act in front of me anymore?"

He leaned forward, looking at Xie Yumin with a half-smile, "I thought you were capable enough to shut Ruolan up."
