"Look how smug you are."

Xie Yumin reached out and patted Mengmeng's head, saying helplessly, "Okay, Auntie will definitely listen to Mengmeng and get some rest."

"Mengmeng is such a good girl, she's so good at taking care of people."

Upon hearing Xie Yumin's praise, Mengmeng's face lit up with a smug smile.

She took Xie Yumin's hand and skipped back to the ward.

When I returned to the ward, Ruolan was no longer there.

Mengmeng helped Xie Yumin sit down on the bed, then ran to pour her a glass of water.

"Auntie, have some water to soothe your throat. You lost a lot of blood just now, you must be thirsty."

Mengmeng handed the water to Xie Yumin, her eyes full of concern.

Xie Yumin took the water, took a sip, and felt a surge of warmth in her heart. She looked at Mengmeng and said, "Mengmeng, you are such a good child. Auntie is so lucky to have such a precious child like you."

After hearing Xie Yumin's words, Mengmeng's face turned red. She smiled shyly and said, "Auntie, I like you very much too."

"You're so good to me, much better than Aunt Ruolan."

Xie Yumin's heart stirred upon hearing Mengmeng's words.

Although children may speak without thinking, she knew that Mengmeng already harbored resentment towards Ruolan.

However, Xie Yumin also understood that Ruolan had been by Mengmeng's side for quite some time, and Mengmeng still had some feelings for Ruolan.

Whether Ruolan could stand her or not, Xie Yumin didn't care...

What troubled her most was that she didn't want Mengmeng to feel embarrassed because of the conflict between her and Ruolan.

“Mengmeng, Aunt Ruolan actually cares about you a lot, it’s just that sometimes she doesn’t speak the right way.”

Xie Yumin carefully chose her words and said softly, "Please don't be angry with her, okay?"

Mengmeng tilted her head and thought for a moment, then said, "Okay, I'll listen to Auntie and not be angry with Aunt Ruolan anymore. But if she bullies you again, I won't talk to her anymore."

Xie Yumin smiled and nodded, saying, "Okay, Mengmeng is so sensible. Auntie believes that Mengmeng and Aunt Ruolan can get along well."

Back in the ward, Mengmeng busied herself pouring water for Xie Yumin and moving a chair from the ward to the bedside so that Xie Yumin could sit comfortably.

Ruolan remained standing in the corner of the ward, her expression shifting between anger and uncertainty. Watching Mengmeng's meticulous care for Xie Yumin, her jealousy and resentment grew even stronger.

She snorted coldly and said sarcastically, "Hmph, it's just a minor injury, why make such a fuss? It's like you're about to die."

Upon hearing this, Mengmeng immediately bristled like a kitten, glaring angrily at Ruolan: "Aunt Ruolan, if you keep talking to me like that, I'll really get angry!"

"Your aunt is injured, and not only do you not care, you also make sarcastic remarks. You're so annoying!"

Ruolan's face turned pale and then red after Mengmeng's retort. Just as she was about to retaliate, Xie Yumin quickly smoothed things over, saying, "Mengmeng, don't talk to Aunt Ruolan like that. Aunt Ruolan probably didn't notice my injury; she didn't mean it."

Seeing that Xie Yumin had given her a way out, Ruolan didn't dare to continue her outburst, but her resentment deepened. She gave Xie Yumin a cold look, then turned and walked out of the ward.

Watching Ruolan's departing figure, Mengmeng frowned and said, "Auntie, don't mind Aunt Ruolan. She just has a bad temper. I will protect you from now on and won't let her bully you again."

Xie Yumin felt a warmth in her heart. She gently hugged Mengmeng and said, "Mengmeng, thank you. I feel especially happy to have you by my side."

Next, Mengmeng became Xie Yumin's caregiver.

Back in the ward, Mengmeng brought Xie Yumin delicious food and helped her get her medicine and water.

However, seeing Mengmeng's understanding nature, Xie Yumin's doubts only deepened.

She always felt that her relationship with Mengmeng was not simple, and that inexplicable thought would occasionally pop into her mind.

Finally, Ruolan came to the ward again.

Seeing Xie Yumin and Mengmeng being so close, she could no longer suppress her anger.

She crossed her arms and said coldly, "Xie Yumin, don't think you can stay here forever just because Mengmeng is protecting you. Let me tell you, you're not welcome here, and you'd better leave right away."

Xie Yumin looked at Ruolan, took a deep breath, and mustered her courage to say, "Ruolan, I know you've always had a problem with me."

"But there are some things I think we should talk about. Regarding Mengmeng, I think we need to find out about her background together."

Ruolan's expression changed; she hadn't expected Xie Yumin to suddenly bring this up.

With a flicker of her eyes, Ruolan said somewhat flusteredly, "What's there to talk about? Mengmeng is my child, and has nothing to do with you."

Xie Yumin said firmly, "Ruolan, I don't want to argue with you. But Mengmeng's appearance was too sudden. I think we should do a paternity test. It would be better for everyone."

Upon hearing this, Ruolan immediately became furious and embarrassed: "What nonsense are you talking about! Mengmeng is my child, there's no need for any paternity test."

"I also want to give you a piece of advice: don't even think about making a move on Mengmeng."

Just as the two were at an impasse, Mengmeng suddenly ran over, grabbed Xie Yumin and Ruolan's hands, and said in a childish voice, "Aunt Ruolan, Aunt Xie, please stop fighting, okay? I don't want to see you unhappy."

Mengmeng's appearance embarrassed Xie Yumin and Ruolan, and they realized that even if they didn't like each other, they shouldn't argue in front of the child.

Worried that her words would affect Mengmeng, Xie Yumin quickly comforted her, "Mengmeng, Auntie and Aunt Ruolan were just discussing some things from the past, they didn't argue."

Mengmeng's little face scrunched up in confusion. She looked at Ruolan and asked softly, "Aunt Ruolan, is that really true? You weren't arguing?"

When Ruolan was asked this question by Mengmeng, her expression became complicated.

She knew she couldn't reveal too much in front of Mengmeng right now, so she could only awkwardly agree with Xie Yumin and say, "Yes, Mengmeng, we didn't quarrel. Don't worry too much about adult matters."

Although Ruolan's words sounded somewhat forced, Mengmeng nodded with a hint of doubt.

Just then, the ward door was suddenly pushed open, and Gu Yinshen walked in.

He had originally come to check on Mengmeng's condition, but upon seeing Xie Yumin lying on the hospital bed, his brows furrowed instantly, and he asked, "What happened?"

Ruolan's expression was somewhat strange, and she did not respond.

Finally, Mengmeng spoke up to explain: "Uncle Gu, Aunt Xie went to buy something for me outside the hospital and accidentally fell. She fell very badly."

Gu Yinshen's expression changed slightly upon hearing this.

Although he didn't want to care too much about Xie Yumin, he still had to maintain the proper demeanor in front of Mengmeng.

He stepped forward and asked with concern, "How badly did you fall? Are you alright?"

Xie Yumin replied coldly, "It's alright, I can handle it myself, you don't need to worry about it."

Gu Yinshen was a little embarrassed after being refuted, but he still patiently said, "It's good that you're alright. I mainly wanted to check on Mengmeng's health."

As he spoke, he turned to leave. Ruolan suddenly called out to him and whispered, "Yinshen, there's something I need to talk to you about."

After saying that, she pulled Gu Yinshen away from the ward.
