Chapter 364 Disturbance
Ruolan and Gu Yinshen both heard it. They exchanged a glance, their eyes filled with complex emotions.
They knew that Xie Yumin really couldn't bear to part with Mengmeng.
Before they could react, Mengmeng rushed over and hugged Xie Yumin's arm, her eyes bright and her tone extremely cheerful: "Okay, okay! I don't want to leave you either! Stay for two more days! We can play together!"
Xie Yumin's eyes lit up immediately, and a bright smile bloomed on her lips: "Really? That's great, thank you, Mengmeng!"
Gu Yinshen and Ruolan exchanged a glance, their smiles somewhat forced. They had already intended to politely decline, but seeing Mengmeng's happy expression, they could only nod helplessly.
"In that case, Miss Xie, please stay here for a couple more days."
Upon hearing this, Xie Yumin's gaze fell on the two faces, a satisfied smile flashing in her eyes. She said in a gentle and tactful tone, "Then... I'll have to trouble you."
Xie Yumin finally managed to stay, allowing her to spend more time with Mengmeng. She had never felt so content, even her breathing was filled with light joy. She sat on the sofa, her gaze following the small figure running around the living room, a slight smile playing on her lips, her eyes shimmering with tenderness.
But just as she inadvertently turned her head, a glance between Ruolan and Gu Yinshen caught her eye.
There was a tacit, silent wariness in his eyes.
Her heart tightened slightly, and before she could think about it, Ruolan had already walked over gracefully, her voice gentle: "Mengmeng, Auntie is staying with you today, are you happy?"
Mengmeng nodded, her little face filled with satisfaction and joy. "Yes! I'm super happy!"
Ruolan smiled and patted her head, but her gaze lingered on Xie Yumin for a fleeting moment. That moment was slight, yet it felt like a needle gently pricking her heart.
After the meal, Xie Yumin wiped the soup stains from Mengmeng's mouth and asked softly, "Mengmeng, what do you usually do from now on?"
Mengmeng thought about it seriously for a moment, her little brows furrowing slightly, and her voice soft, "I want to study on my own."
Xie Yumin was taken aback, then couldn't help but laugh, "You haven't gone to school yet, have you? Even if you're just at home, you still need to study, right?"
Mengmeng raised her head, her bright eyes full of seriousness: "Yes, otherwise if I only play every day, my grades will always be bad. Our teacher said that if I want to become better, I have to study hard every day."
That serious little face, both adorable and earnest, was incredibly cute. Xie Yumin's heart melted instantly, and she said softly, "Okay, then Auntie will study with you, okay? You can ask Auntie any questions you don't understand."
Mengmeng's eyes lit up, and she clapped her hands: "Okay, thank you, Auntie!"
So the two went into the study together. The study was softly lit, and at the desk, Mengmeng was diligently flipping through her exercise book, writing stroke by stroke. Xie Yumin sat beside her, quietly keeping her company, her gaze gentle and focused.
About ten minutes later, Mengmeng suddenly pouted, her face scrunched up, and she stopped writing.
Xie Yumin leaned closer and asked softly, "What's wrong? Did you encounter a problem you can't solve?"
Mengmeng looked up, her expression pitiful, and softly pushed the book towards her. "Auntie, do you know how to do this problem? I've been thinking about it for so long but I still can't figure it out..."
Xie Yumin took the workbook, glanced at it, and said with a smile, "Of course I know."
She lowered her head and explained slowly, speaking at a moderate pace, her language clear and friendly. Soon, Mengmeng understood, and her eyes lit up.
"Wow, Auntie is amazing!" She clapped her hands in surprise, thanking you repeatedly. "You solved the problem I didn't know right away, and now I understand it all! Thank you!"
Xie Yumin's heart softened upon hearing this, and a smile crept onto her face. "It's alright. Mengmeng studies so hard, she'll definitely get good grades."
Encouraged by the praise, Mengmeng straightened her back and said with bright eyes, "Yes, I must become the best student in our class!"
Xie Yumin found her adorable, acting like a little adult, and couldn't resist reaching out to pat her head.
However, just then, a soft knocking broke the silence inside the house.
"Please come in!" Mengmeng called out instinctively.
The door was pushed open, and Ruolan walked in carrying a plate of sliced fruit.
She immediately noticed Xie Yumin's outstretched hand, about to touch Mengmeng's head, and her eyes narrowed almost imperceptibly.
However, she quickly regained her gentle smile, walked to the table, put down the plate, and said, "Mengmeng, you must be tired after studying for so long, right? Here, have some fruit and take a rest."
"Thank you, Mom!" Mengmeng exclaimed happily, immediately picking up a piece of apple and putting it in her mouth.
Ruolan smiled and patted her hair, her eyes sweeping over the workbook on the table. Most of the densely packed problems had already been solved, and carefully circled and corrected in red pen.
She immediately understood that Xie Yumin had not only accompanied her, but had also personally helped her explain the questions.
Her smile remained, but a hint of displeasure flashed in her eyes. She bent down and said gently, "Mengmeng, are there any questions you don't understand? Mommy can stay and keep you company. If there's anything you don't understand, you can ask Mommy."
Mengmeng was holding an orange in her hand when she paused, tilting her little head slightly.
She glanced at Xie Yumin, about to say, "Auntie is enough," but then she thought, if her mother were here too, she would definitely learn more faster. So she nodded emphatically, "Okay, thank you, Mom!"
Xie Yumin looked at Ruolan sitting on the other side and didn't say anything more. She just lowered her eyes and her smile was a little stiff.
In the time that followed, whenever she wanted to get water for Mengmeng, prepare stationery, or explain problems, Ruolan would always intervene at just the right moment.
"Mengmeng, have a piece of orange to get some vitamins."
"Mengmeng, Mommy has done this problem before, do you want me to teach you?"
"Mengmeng, your writing posture is crooked, sit up straight!"
At first, Xie Yumin didn't pay much attention, thinking that she genuinely cared about the child. But as the incidents occurred more often, she gradually realized something was amiss.
There were far too many of these "just-right" interruptions.
Her fingers tightened slightly as she gripped the pen, a bitter feeling welling up inside her. Ruolan was clearly wary of her, intentionally trying to isolate her from Mengmeng's world.
The more she thought about it, the more aggrieved she felt. She rarely saw Mengmeng, while Ruolan and Gu Yinshen were always by her side. Now, she had only managed to buy herself a little time, and she was being monitored and obstructed both openly and secretly.
