EROS [Zerg]

Chapter 79 Exam

[The installation, removal, and maintenance of the mech's power engine.]

Eros breathed a sigh of relief when he saw the test question he had drawn. Although the power engine was a relatively complex part of the mecha, Eros had practiced it hundreds of times because of Brandt's requirements. The final result of his practice was recognized by Brandt, so Eros was still confident in himself.

After receiving the exam questions, the first batch of candidates were guided into the examination room.

Only thirty female trainees entered the practical exam this time. Compared to the crowded exam room earlier, the exam room is now much emptier.

As Eros entered the examination room, he looked at the examiners facing them and was surprised to find Brandt sitting among them. A subtle emotion made him turn his eyes away.

As the candidate with the highest score in the competition, Eros naturally received special attention from a group of examiners when he entered the examination room.

After the ten candidates handed over the questions they had drawn to the examiners in turn, the objects they were supposed to operate on were also revealed to them.

This is a light mech with a sea-blue base color, standing 167 meters tall and weighing 1620 tons.

When Eros saw the question, he immediately realized that he had underestimated the difficulty of the question.

"The mech in front of you is the subject of your exam." Brandt, as the chief examiner, looked at the candidates and said, "This is the exam question for the ten of you. You will work together to complete your exam on this mech."

"The exam will last for eight weeks."

"You will choose the tools for the exam from the warehouse yourselves. You are not allowed to use communication devices or help each other during the exam. If you are found to be doing so, you will be disqualified from the exam."

"The exam is now beginning."

Upon hearing that the exam was about to begin, the candidates began to examine the parts they had drawn and then went to the warehouse to find the tools they needed.

Eros stared at the towering 167-meter-tall mecha. To inspect the mecha's power engine, besides disassembling the power engine unit, another way was to climb into the mecha's cockpit and use probing instruments to detect where the power engine malfunctioned.

When Eros practiced repairing mechs, he would first lay the mech flat and then climb onto its body to find the part that needed repair.

But this time, if ten candidates come together to repair this mech, some will need to fix the back thrusters and gliders, while others will need to repair the mech's sensors and radar equipment...

Each candidate needs to repair a different part, so only when the mech is in a standing position can the candidates' operational requirements be met as much as possible.

But this is precisely the biggest difficulty Eros is facing now.

Eros has no wings and cannot fly. There are also no suitable tools available for climbing.

After observing the mech for a while, Eros realized that the only way to repair it was to climb up the mech and reach the nuclear-powered engine unit on the upper part of the mech.

With that in mind, Eros went to the storeroom where he could select tools and took out the instruments and ropes he needed.

The hemp rope could not support the weight of Eros and his companion, so Eros had no choice but to use a metal chain for restraint.

After preparing the tools, Eros stuffed his pockets full of anti-slip powder.

After rubbing the anti-slip powder evenly into his claws, Eros carefully looped the rope chain onto the protruding part of the mech's shell and began to climb upwards little by little.

The equipment on his back was very heavy, and for every meter he climbed, Eros's strength was severely depleted.

There were female insects around, flapping their wings, already starting to work on the exam questions they had drawn.

Eros forced himself to ignore the other insects around him, his eyes fixed on the top of his head.

After climbing for 20 stars, Eros finally climbed into the mech's cockpit.

Sitting in the cockpit, Eros felt dizzy.

The intense physical exertion made his face look very pale, but he quickly forced himself to start checking where the engine malfunctioned.

By connecting the probe on its back to the control system in the cockpit and checking the integrity of each wire, Russia was able to determine the source of the problem with the mech's power engine.

Now all he needs to do is disassemble the entire power engine unit, repair it, and then reinstall it back onto the mech.

There was still plenty of time, but Eros dared not relax. The challenge lay in safely transporting the disassembled engine to the ground.

Eros calculated that the mech's power engine weighed over 300 tons, and it was impossible for him to transport the entire 300-ton component to the ground on his own.

He had just searched through the tools in the warehouse but did not find any large machines such as cranes or hoists.

Eros, inside the cockpit, had already seen many examinees flying around in the air, transporting the parts they had disassembled.

A wave of envy rose in his heart; how wonderful it would be if he had insect wings too.

This climb had exhausted Eros half to death. He couldn't imagine how much effort it would take to transport all of this energy down there.

I probably won't be able to finish sending them all by the time the exams are over.

Eros gave a wry smile. Now was not the time to think about such trivial matters; he should hurry up and think of a solution.

As he was thinking, his gaze suddenly fell on his legs, or more precisely, on the driver's seat beneath his legs.

When Eros climbed out of the cockpit again, he had two cockpit seats strapped to his waist.

"What is he trying to do?" Some candidates saw Eros slide down the rope chain like a circus performer to the nuclear-powered engine device on the front of the mecha.

Eros secured his body with ropes and chains, then tied the two seats he had removed from the cockpit together with ropes to make a makeshift pulley.

This way, he could disassemble the power engine parts while delivering the equipment to the ground.

Once everything was ready, Eros began disassembling the parts.

He was already very skilled at disassembling the power engine and quickly broke the huge device down into several small parts.

Time passed second by second, and in less than two stars, Eros had already hollowed out the front of the mech.

His performance was noticed by several examiners. Although he was behind the other candidate in progress due to the time wasted climbing earlier, several examiners were already very satisfied with his performance considering the difficulty of the test questions.

Unfortunately, this female insect in front of me has no wings and is not as agile as the female insects around me. But fortunately, this female insect is quite clever and knows how to make up for her disadvantages by using external objects.
