EROS [Zerg]
Chapter 214 Drifting Fragments
“Why… what is going on?” Eros’s eyes were filled with terror.
Are Kuwait and Enr together?
“You’ve all conspired to deceive me.” Eros took a step back in resistance, but before he could regain his balance, a sharp pain shot through his chest, followed by numbness that spread from his chest to his limbs, rendering him unable to move.
Once Eros realized he had been hit by a tranquilizer dart, he knew he was doomed.
His body was paralyzed, but he still retained his consciousness. Perhaps this was En'er's punishment for him.
Eros watched helplessly as he traveled from the fourth star system to the first star system. Previously, it had been a very troublesome process for him to leave by civilian spaceship, but now, incredibly, he had a smooth journey with no obstacles whatsoever.
"Eros, we meet again."
When Eros saw Kowe again, this insect was now the most hateful face in his eyes.
Eros was so angry he wanted to curse the insect, but his mouth was too numb to open, so he could only stare at the female insect that was mocking him.
“It seems he didn’t use a high dose on you, so the anesthesia should wear off quickly.” Kove walked up to Eros, bent down and looked at him. “But I think you might not be able to speak for a long time.”
Eros stared wide-eyed at Kowe in disbelief, but soon everything went black before his eyes.
……
“Mentor, the biological fragments found on the newly discovered planetary debris have been brought back. Here are the samples taken.” The female insect wearing glasses walked to Kowe's side, holding a sample placed in a crystal box.
Kove put on gloves, took the sample out of the crystal box, and placed the sealed sample slide into the instrument.
Soon, a microscopic image of the sample was projected onto the large screen in the laboratory.
"We discovered that the biological tissue taken from that fossil had some very amazing features."
"what?"
"It can be fused with all the genes in our current gene pool. If we can master this technology, we can not only correct the defects of our race, but also create new life."
After successfully fusing the gene sequences extracted from the samples with randomly selected gene sequences, Kovey exclaimed, "This is a gift from the Insect God, Santons."
While exploring an unknown region of the First Star System, the army of the Insectoid Empire discovered the remains of an asteroid and found the genes of a new life form within these remains.
The Imperial Academy of Science took over the task of collecting these remains from the military, and Kowe, who had just retired from the military and was still working as a professor at the Academy, was assigned to the research team.
Initially, the task of mining and collecting debris in space was extremely difficult. Miners faced the danger of radiation from materials inside asteroid debris, and it was uncertain whether the results of this research were worth the cost. Therefore, everyone agreed that the task assigned to Kowe and his team was not a good one.
As a result, members left their team one after another. Kowe was originally assigned to the team as a peripheral technical advisor and mentor some interns because of his long-term experience in military service in space.
Unexpectedly, in the end, Kowe became the most senior and authoritative member of the team, and to everyone's surprise, the tasks the team took on gradually improved.
If the technology to fuse with known genes is mastered, it will be a great research achievement that could change the current situation where female insects suffer from mental torment and low fertility.
The research had barely begun when some insects tried to get a piece of the pie.
Born into nobility, Kowe was pampered from childhood and didn't care about these empty titles. He didn't refuse when the documents from above asked him to give up these achievements.
Only Santons, who had been interning alongside him, would stand up for him.
Kowe, who originally planned to work in the military for the rest of his life, had to accept his assignment to the Imperial Royal Science and Technology Park because of a wing injury. He was not interested in these jobs and felt that the insects here were all good-for-nothings who took the salary from the Empire and did nothing.
Working with such an incompetent person is a painful experience in itself.
And so, Kowe once again retreated to the sidelines of teamwork.
However, the good times didn't last long. The team's mission once again ran into trouble. The genetic variables of the sample were difficult to control. After many experiments, not only did they fail to achieve an effective breakthrough, but they also created some monsters that should not have appeared.
The research was even forced to stop after a monster escape caused huge losses to the Imperial Academy of Science and Technology.
Kowe didn't expect to achieve anything by working with that bunch of lazy bums, when he told this idea to his favorite student.
Santons pointed out with a helpless yet sharp tone: "Professor, aren't you just wasting your time too?"
Kowe removed the book from his face: "Shantons, you've changed. You're no longer the excellent female insect I picked out at first glance. You actually think I'm the same kind of idiot as those other good-for-nothings. It's really disappointing. You can't even see that my downfall is due to my disappointment with this world."
"So you admit that you are now falling into depravity?"
“Okay, of course not.” Kowe turned the book he was holding upside down on the table. “Come see my discovery.”
Kowe showed Santons a video: "A specimen model reconstructed from those fragments."
"Look, doesn't it look quite familiar?"
“This is… an insect?” Santons exclaimed, looking at the reconstructed model in the video. “It looks just like our insect form.”
“I think so too.” Kove nodded in agreement, and pulled up another video: “Based on this, I made an assumption that we might have some connection with it.”
"I compared the Zerg genes with the sample genes and found that we have a gene arrangement that is exactly the same in terms of the genetic code."
"So I tried to arrange and fuse the genetic codes of the two, and finally obtained an egg."
“Judging from the data above, its differentiation is very stable. If we can cultivate it, we might make some unexpected discoveries.” Excitement gleamed in Santons’ eyes. “Mentor, you are a genius! Will we be able to cultivate a little insect?”
"It could also be a small monster."
"If we could use only the genes of female insects for fusion and breeding, could we solve the problem of low fertility rates among the insect race in the future?"
A sneer appeared on Kowe's lips: "Don't even think about it. If that happened, it would only be a disaster."
"But it's not entirely without its advantages, Santons. Do you know anything about secondary evolution?"
