Chapter 188: He's still somewhat useful
"Why are you crying?!" Audit blinked, his gaze falling on Eros's empty arm.
Audit crouched down, wiped Eros's tears with his claws, and comforted him, "Don't cry, okay? When we get back, I'll find the best mechanic to install a mechanical claw arm for you. I'm not kidding, my female lord is a doctor, and he knows the best mechanics."
Eros kept his mouth tightly shut and strained to open his eyes upwards.
Upon hearing Audit's words, Eros broke down.
He choked up, tears streaming down his face: "But I am one of them."
"what?"
"I am a military mechanic myself."
Auditer stared at Eros in shock, recalling the professional certificate Eros had just given him: "Was that certificate real?!"
Which military mechanic would travel in such an economical spaceship?
Audit knew that the certificate of a military mechanic was highly valuable, and the loss of a military mechanic would be a great loss to the Empire. He felt sorry for Eros.
Eros buried his head in his arms and cried, "I'm useless."
"Pah, pah, pah!" Auditer was genuinely afraid that Eros might do something impulsive: "What do you mean 'useless'?"
"Being alive is useful; being dead is useless!"
Eros nodded silently and wiped away his tears.
"We'll go home in a bit after the aircraft lands. Don't overthink it. Your female father will definitely want to see you safe and sound."
"Ah."
Auditor comforted Eros, and the aircraft that had received the distress signal began to land. Auditor quickly opened the protective shield.
At that moment, Eros keenly heard insects rushing toward them at high speed. He looked in the direction of the sound and saw Kirkland and the other three females running toward them at great speed from the surface of the spaceship, followed by a group of space pirates.
"Don't land! Stay airborne, stay airborne!" Seeing this, Eros hurriedly pulled Audit towards the landing spacecraft: "There are space pirates behind us. Once we land, there won't be enough time to take off again!"
As the photon shield was removed, the medium inside the shield dissipated into the vacuum, and Eros's shouts became almost silent.
Helpless, he had no choice but to run to the landing site of the spacecraft and continue to use signal lights to transmit information to the spacecraft.
As the aircraft hovered above the spaceship, the hatch opened, and an insect stood on the hatch, extending its claws outwards.
Eros grabbed Audit, lifted him up, and shoved him into the hatch.
"Come on up!" Audit climbed into the hatch and hurriedly stretched out his claws to pull Erlos.
In the vacuum of space, Eros cannot hear sounds, but he can see Audie's mouth.
"Come up quickly!"
Eros climbed onto the aircraft, and before he could even stand properly, he heard the female soldier sitting in the pilot's seat say:
"Pick, check the ammunition reserves. We can't just rely on Kirkland and the others to run here. We need to go and meet them."
"Okay." The female soldier who had just met Eros and Audit nodded and immediately went to check the ammunition depot. She quickly gave the female insect in the driver's seat a "no problem" gesture.
The hatch was not closed. Eros and Audit stood together against the wall, their bodies firmly bound by metal seatbelts to prevent them from being sucked into the dark universe.
After the aircraft rose a certain distance, it suddenly swooped down. Kirkland and the other three female military units, who had been notified, were already prepared and flew towards the open hatch with their wings spread.
The cruiser's ammunition continuously strafeeded the space pirates behind them, providing cover for them.
“Wait, Erica, look!” Pik pointed his claws toward the former space pirates.
“Those…those are the poor people they kidnapped!”
Eros and Audie stared at each other wide-eyed upon hearing this, for as far as they knew, they were the only two survivors of the captured female insects on the ship.
The only possibility is that the two groups of female insects who initially boarded the rescue aircraft.
"I've already requested support from the military." Erica's gaze fell on the civilians being escorted by space pirates below. After calmly analyzing the situation in her mind, she said to the female insect inside the spacecraft:
"We have too few insects to rush into saving them."
"We can only wait for support from the military."
None of the female insects inside the aircraft objected. Although their comrades had been captured, the female insects present, especially the military females, all wanted to rescue them, but their understanding of their own strength meant they could only choose to wait for rescue.
Suddenly, a commotion broke out among the space pirates. Eros saw a female insect offspring among the captives being held high by Filippone and dismembered with a knife in front of a group of insects inside the spacecraft.
"Those slugs!" Kirkland, who was standing nearby, also saw the pitiful plight of the female insect offspring and punched the steel plate hard.
"Don't get agitated, Kirkland. Those space pirates are just waiting for you to lose control and do something irrational," Erica warned, when suddenly he noticed the spacecraft had received a message.
"They're space pirates."
“These space pirates are trying to communicate with us.” Erica zoomed in on the light screen.
"Connect quickly and hear what they want to do?" Pique sat in the passenger seat, placed a paw on the control handle, projected the light screen, and pressed the button to connect the signal.
Eros stared intently at the shadow that appeared on the light screen.
A female insect offspring, its limbs removed, leaving only its head and torso, appeared before the insects. The offspring must have been in excruciating pain, its face contorted in agony, and it could only utter squeaking cries as the space pirates choked its neck.
A terrifying mechanical laugh came from the screen, and soon Eros saw the female insect, Felipe, whose body was mostly covered by machinery.
"Hahaha...you...good...ah! Lackeys of the Insect Shit Empire, hee hee hee hee!" The sharp mechanical voice was extremely jarring throughout the aircraft.
"You captured other insects?!" Eros roared angrily at the female insect cub being held in Felipe's claws. "Release that insect cub immediately! Harming insect cubs is a provocation against the Empire!"
"Yo yo yo, isn't this the female insect that was so scared that she completely turned into an insect? You're still alive, hehehe... I can let her go, hehe... exchange your eyes... or your whole insect for her."
At this moment, Neferoli, who had been standing to the side, walked to the light screen, looked at the female insect Eros who was biting her lower lip, and revealed a malicious smile: "Come to us, and we will give you this group of prisoners."
“If you don’t come to trade, I’ll sell them to the Blue Star Thieves.”
“They would suffer ten thousand times worse than death there.”
"Dream on!" Auditer, who was standing to the side, immediately stepped in front of Eros and cursed at the space pirates:
"You wish! Who would believe the nonsense of you space pirates!"
“Of course you can abandon them and leave them to their fate.” Neferoli pulled out a sharp dagger and plunged it mercilessly into the little female’s head.
The immense pain caused the little insect to let out a sharp cry of agony.
“Don’t look.” Kirkland covered Eros’s eyes with his paw. “That bug cub is dead. These space pirates are taking advantage of your empathy.”
Eros knew this principle; even if he agreed to exchange those space pirates, there was a high probability that he would not keep his promise.
But the reality is that, whether he is willing to make the exchange or not, he will have to pay a heavy price.
Agreed, Eros will be killed.
I disagree. Eros will remember this for the rest of his life and carry the guilt for the rest of his life.
“They released them, and I agree to the exchange.” Eros took a deep breath and said to the insect on the screen, “On the condition that you release all the prisoners.”
"Eros!"
The female insects standing around Eros disagreed with his decision: "You can't do this, calm down!"
“No need to calm down.” Eros shook his head, raised his broken arm, and forced a smile. “Even if I could go back, it wouldn’t make a difference. The best thing I could do is go back to the Comet Class and wait to graduate to become a simple repairman.”
“Each of those captured female insects would be more useful than me,” Eros said slowly.
"If I can get a chance to rescue them, then I'm still of some use."
