A beautiful summer night

Chapter 88 Outbreak

When Liang Jing arrived, Yun Meilan had already cleaned up the broken glass in the living room. She was now warmly greeting him, cutting fruit for him, asking if he was hungry, and serving him tea and water, taking meticulous care of him.

"What are you standing there for? Come and sit with Liang Jing." Yun Meilan waved to Yun Li, who had just come out of the room, her face full of gentle smiles.

She didn't listen to a single word Yunli said to her today.

Liang Jing, who was standing to the side, replied with a smile, "Auntie, you don't need to bother. I've already eaten, I'm not hungry."

Yunli's eyelids drooped, and she felt a chill run through her body in that instant: "I had him come here specifically to ask about some things."

"We'll talk about it later." Yun Meilan stopped what she was doing, wiping her hands as she walked over, her expression a little flustered, and her eyes held a hint of warning as she looked at Yun Li.

She was afraid that Yunli would tell Liang Jing what she had said today.

She was even more afraid that Liang Jing would be disappointed in her and agree to break up with her.

"I have nothing to say, but I just want to ask you one question: what is your purpose in teaming up to make this disappearance today?" Yun Li took a step back, deliberately asking this question in front of them.

She desperately wanted Yun Meilan to see what kind of person Liang Jing really was.

Yun Meilan was taken aback, walked up to Yun Li and grabbed her arm: "This is my fault, I asked him to take me to the hotel."

"And your answer?" Yun Li shook off Yun Meilan's hand and stared straight at Liang Jing, who remained silent.

Liang Jing sat there, rubbing his knees, seemingly enduring something.

Yun Meilan told him that this method would surely reconcile him and Yun Li, so he did as she suggested.

He knew it was wrong, but he did it anyway.

He is an accomplice.

But he prided himself on being a gentleman, valuing his reputation above all else, and would never admit that he and Yun Meilan were birds of a feather.

But in front of Yun Meilan, he couldn't shirk all responsibility because he wanted to save face.

Yun Meilan's face darkened, and she was equally unwilling to answer the question.

This is not a noble or virtuous matter.

“Neither of you will say it, then I will.” Yunli’s gaze swept back and forth between them as she spoke, word by word, “You want to make me anxious by disappearing, and force me to reconcile with Liang Jing. Meanwhile, you are in the prime of your career and have no time to take care of your mother, nor do you want to spend money to hire a nanny. And I am the best nanny in your eyes, so my mother is eager to help you, and you don’t need to put in any effort to win me back. For you, why not?”

These words hit the nail on the head, and Yun Meilan and Liang Jing's expressions turned sour.

Liang Jing was furious but couldn't lash out in front of Yun Meilan, so he lowered his voice and said, "Why say such harsh things? I misunderstood you and that rich kid the other day, but you know me, I don't know how to apologize to you. So, as your aunt suggested, I thought I'd make up with you and then compensate you."

“Yes, yes,” Yun Meilan chimed in. “Yun Li, Liang Jing truly loves you, so don’t say such hurtful things.”

"Are you still my mother?" Even at this point, she still sided with Liang Jing. Yun Li was utterly disappointed. She was fighting against them all by herself, and a sense of desolation arose in her heart. "You forced me to be with him by threatening suicide. Fine, I agreed. I'm not happy with him. I don't want to be their nanny. I don't like him. I want to break up with him. And then you disappeared to force me to get back together with him."

"Do you really want me to suffer?" Yun Li's questions made Yun Meilan's face extremely embarrassed.

Liang Jing could no longer tolerate it: "Yun Li, how can you talk to your mother like that!"

"Isn't that right?" Yunli looked at him, her words piercing his heart. "Ask yourself honestly, do you like me?"

"Mom, you probably don't know, we've been together for almost half a year, and he has never hugged me, never kissed me, and never said a single affectionate word to me."

Yunli sneered, mercilessly exposing his lie: "Do you think he doesn't like women?"

"What nonsense are you spouting!" Liang Jing stood up agitatedly, as if trying to hide his embarrassment, or perhaps out of guilt. He didn't care that Yun Meilan was still watching, and pointed at Yun Li, cursing, "There's a limit to nonsense. Do you really think I wouldn't dare to lay a hand on you!"

"You dare!" Before Yun Li could speak, Yun Meilan stepped forward and grabbed Liang Jing's hand in disbelief, her eyes filled with doubt and utter disappointment. "Xiao Liang, is this true?"

Liang Jing realized his mistake and regretted his impulsiveness and loss of composure. He hurriedly apologized, "I'm sorry, I lost my temper. But anyone would be angry if they were slandered like that."

He took a deep breath and explained, "My family's education is quite traditional. I think it's more appropriate to do intimate things after marriage. Besides, I know that Yunli hasn't completely fallen for me yet. I'm thinking of waiting until we are truly in love before doing intimate things."

He paused, then looked at Yunli: "You know I'm a public servant, and I'm rather conservative by nature. I'm not really good at making you happy like other men, but you can't slander me..."

Other men.

Yunli gave him a cold laugh.

Every word he uttered was an attempt to justify himself, even bringing up other men, subconsciously shifting the blame back onto her.

Yunli didn't want to expose him before because he was well-behaved and she was willing to pretend she knew nothing and cooperate with his act.

But from the moment he saw Jiang Baichuan, he suddenly developed a strange possessiveness and even insulted her, calling her shameless, her forbearance vanished completely.

Liang Jing felt inexplicably intimidated by her gaze.

Yun Meilan was half-convinced and half-doubting: "Are you serious?"

Liang Jing raised his hand and swore: "I am absolutely not lying!"

Yun Meilan didn't say anything. She walked to the sofa and sat down, looking exhausted. After a long while, she finally adopted a bit of an elder's demeanor and waved her hand, saying, "You should go back first. It's late. You should all calm down."

She didn't completely trust Liang Jing, but she also didn't trust Yun Li.

Yunli knew that misjudging someone was a bigger blow to her than her own daughter going against her wishes.

This night is destined to be sleepless.

When Yunli woke up the next day, she saw Yun Meilan making breakfast as usual, and the heavy weight in her heart was temporarily lifted.

After all these years, Yunli no longer expects her to understand her; all she asks for is for her to be safe.

She was her only family.

As usual, Yunli arrived at the flower shop and busied herself tidying up the wilted flowers before completing today's orders.

At nine o'clock, Xia Wanzhi came over to help. The two looked at each other and smiled, neither of them mentioning what happened yesterday.

At 9:30, a new batch of flowers arrived. Yunli squatted on the ground with a notebook to check the varieties and quantities. Suddenly, a pair of expensive leather shoes appeared in front of her. She was slightly taken aback. Without looking up, she knew that the person was Jiang Baichuan.

"Boss, please pack a bouquet of lychee roses." Jiang Baichuan's magnetic voice flowed out slowly.

Hearing the sound, Xia Wanzhi stood up, pressed down on the table, and looked at him. When they met eyes, they greeted each other with their eyes.

Yunli stood up and glanced at him: "I don't want to, don't see me off."

"Who said I was going to give it to you?" Jiang Baichuan chuckled, tilting his chin towards Xia Wanzhi. "I'm giving it to Wanzi."

Xia Wanzhi feigned surprise and delight to lighten the mood: "Really? Mr. Jiang is so kind."

Yunli: "..."

"My girlfriend, who are you to give her flowers?" A cold and ruthless voice interrupted. Xie Qiyan wasn't wearing a suit today, but a casual suit. He walked in with one hand in his pocket, exuding an air of dominance, and confronted Jiang Baichuan.

Yunli raised an eyebrow slightly and looked at them with amusement.

She understood why the flower shop was so busy today.

Their silent concern.

She received it.
