A 50-year-old man is reborn and becomes a complete slacker, leaving his scumbag children completely
Chapter 11 Daughter-in-law's Mockery
When Hu Dahai returned home, he continued to tinker with the fish pond in his yard.
If he wants to continue his fish business, this fishpond isn't big enough. With so many fish in it, they're likely to die from lack of oxygen. He went to the market earlier but couldn't find any air pumps. So, he has no choice but to make the water flow so the fish can survive.
So he did a lot of work at home. First, he demolished the original fish pond and then expanded it several times larger, basically turning half of the yard into a large fish pond. This large fish pond was then divided into several smaller fish ponds of varying heights.
Then he placed several large jars with small holes around the edge of the fishpond. These jars dripped water into the pond, indirectly supplementing the oxygen supply.
Then water can continue to flow out of the higher fishponds to replenish oxygen to the lower fishponds.
He calculated that as long as the jars were filled with water, they could supply water to the fishpond for several hours. That should be enough to ensure the fish he sent to the city wouldn't die.
Once we have a car and buy oxygen pumps, we can send them over in truckloads, and they'll be even less likely to die.
Hu Dahai spent the entire afternoon working on the renovation of the fishpond.
By evening, people started arriving one after another with buckets, wanting to sell something to Hu Dahai. During the day, there were few people catching fish, and the fish were not easy to catch, so no one came to sell fish; everyone was selling snails.
Hu Dahai conducted a strict inspection, only accepting some high-quality snails, and refusing to accept those that were dead or rotten.
Just as Hu Dahai finished harvesting a batch of snails and prepared a meal at home, he was about to eat.
A disheveled figure walked in; it was none other than Hu Wangfei, who had just returned from the quarry.
He was carefully holding onto the wall, but he didn't dare use his palms; he used his elbows instead because his palms were burning with pain.
His legs were trembling, and he had to press his waist to take each step.
"Puch."
Seeing Hu Wangfei's disheveled appearance, Hu Dahai knew exactly what he had been through, so he couldn't help but laugh out loud. He thought to himself: "Little brat, this is nothing! You're about to suffer even more! You could have held a light pen, but now you insist on holding a heavy hammer. Who can you blame?"
He then called out to Hu Wangfei, "Hurry up and eat, the food is ready."
Hu Wangfei waved his hand. Although he was starving, all he wanted to do at that moment was lie down. He couldn't even speak, only managing to utter four words: "I'll eat in a bit." Then he immediately went inside and lay down.
Even from outside the door, Hu Dahai could hear the strange, grimacing noises that the man made as he lay down.
He shrugged and smiled, continuing to enjoy the food in front of him.
Today he cooked himself a bowl of stir-fried pork with chili peppers, three eggs, and a plate of stir-fried loofah.
While Hu Dahai was enjoying dinner, Hu Guanbao and Zhang Yuzhen, who lived next door, were also having a rare and happy time together.
Zhang Yuzhen was very happy today. For the first time ever, she cooked a large table of dishes for Hu Guanbao and also gave Hu Baiquan two ounces of wine.
"Guan Bao, we must celebrate today! The old man finally relented, and our land for the project has finally been approved."
“Let me tell you, the location at the east end of the village is really good. There are mountains behind it and a river in front. We can set aside some land on the mountain to grow vegetables, raise chickens, and raise fish in the river. Wouldn’t that bring us good days?”
Listening to Zhang Yuzhen's words and feeling her "kindness" towards him, Hu Guanbao became a little arrogant.
He sat there nonchalantly, taking a sip of wine and a bite of food, eating with such gusto that his mouth was dripping with oil, even his nose was shiny with grease. His unsightly eating manners were like those of a starving ghost eating for the first time, which made Zhang Yuzhen look on with disgust.
However, Hu Guanbao obviously couldn't see the change in Zhang Yuzhen's expression. He still laughed and said, "Yes, yes, it's fortunate that we separated, otherwise we wouldn't have such benefits."
At the same time, Hu Guanbao said with some relief, "My father is really confused. He refuses to divide the family property no matter what. It's such a good piece of land. Luckily, I went there early today, otherwise someone else would have taken it."
"That's right, your dad just can't stand to see us doing well. I don't think you're his biological child at all; the third son is his real son! No wonder the fourth son doesn't want to come back."
Zhang Yuzhen said indignantly.
When Zhang Yuzhen mentioned the fourth son, Hu Guanbao's expression immediately changed drastically: "Don't say anymore..."
Although Hu Guanbao had grievances against Hu Dahai, Hu Dahai still held some place in his heart. So when he heard about the fourth brother, he immediately thought of how the fourth brother was a source of pain for Hu Dahai, and immediately stopped Zhang Yuzhen.
Zhang Yuzhen curled her lips in disdain, but then she thought that now that she had land, she had nothing to do with Hu Dahai and his family anymore.
Her heart leaped with joy.
"Guanbao, what kind of house do you think we should build?" She began to plan with anticipation: "I saw a family in the next village who built a two-story villa. It's really beautiful. I'll go with you to take a look."
"That little villa is really nice; even if two families lived there, it wouldn't feel crowded at all."
"Great!" Hu Guanbao was in high spirits, completely unaware of what awaited him next. He also had no idea what Zhang Yuzhen meant by mentioning the two families.
......
After finishing his dinner, Hu Dahai teamed up with Bao Yuanshan and went to the river bend to catch fish again.
“Yuanshan, you can only earn one yuan a day by breaking stones. Why don’t you come and work with me? I’ll give you three yuan a day,” Hu Dahai said as he walked with Bao Yuanshan.
"What?" Bao Yuanshan nearly stumbled over the stone in front of him upon hearing this. He said in disbelief, "You're giving me three yuan a day? What do you want me to do?"
Hu Dahai smiled and said, "Just help me collect the fish, that's all."
Bao Yuanshan waved his hands repeatedly: "This is such an easy job, why should I pay you? Just tell me, and I'll go with you and help you out."
“It’s different. I’ll be going to the city to sell fish every day from now on, and I might need you to come with me, or help me collect the fish at home. So you won’t be able to work at the quarry anymore, and you’ll have to help me with the work,” Hu Dahai explained.
Upon hearing this, Bao Yuanshan initially felt something was amiss, but he quickly recalled Hu Dahai's formidable fishing skills and realized that selling fish was perfectly normal. So he replied, "Sure, but I don't need three yuan. One yuan is enough. The work here is much easier than in the quarry."
“But why didn’t you ask your son Wangfei to help you?” Bao Yuanshan suddenly thought of something and asked, “I saw him working so hard at the quarry today. The two kids worked for half a day and were still a little short of a bucket of stones. In the end, I helped them a bit, and they managed to get a bucket.”
"You only get one dollar a day, why don't you just give it to him?"
Bao Yuanshan had no intention of profiting from Hu Dahai; on the contrary, he genuinely cared about Hu Dahai's well-being.
Hu Dahai shook his head, showing no interest in Bao Yuanshan's suggestion, and slowly said, "No need. This child needs to go out and experience some hardship on his own. He should choose his own path; I won't choose it for him."
"Sigh." Bao Yuanshan shook his head and sighed upon seeing this: He really couldn't understand Hu Dahai. He used to protect his child like a treasure, but now he suddenly treats him like a stinky rock in a roadside latrine.
That night, Hu Dahai fished for about two hours until he saw many of the other fishermen leaving, so he immediately went back as well.
Because he occasionally uses holy water to transform his body, his body is becoming stronger day by day. He even feels that his underwater vision and reaction speed are faster than yesterday.
So today, he mainly focused on catching big fish in the water; he didn't catch any fish under two pounds anymore. When he returned, the buckets he brought were full of big fish, probably weighing seventy or eighty pounds.
It has to be said that there are really a lot of fish in the river these days. In addition, this bend is connected to the river in the distance, and many fish from the river swim over, so there seem to be even more fish.
When he got home, he saw several people waiting at his door with buckets of water.
Hu Wangfei, Hu Guanbao, and Zhang Yuzhen were also standing at the door, watching these people.
"You've got it wrong. What use is he to buying fish? How much money could he possibly have? Don't be fooled."
"Haha, he's even buying fish. He probably doesn't want to work at the quarry anymore and wants to be a boss like others."
"Haha, don't let the fish at home die because you can't sell them in the end."
Zhang Yuzhen was also very sharp-tongued, and even when she saw Hu Dahai walking over, she continued to say the same thing.
What she didn't care about at all was Hu Dahai's status as her father-in-law.
