Night Fire Lingering

Chapter 86 Baby, don't even think about it.

Reminded by Wen Yan, Gu Yanci's expression turned somewhat unpleasant.

Wen Yan leaned against the headboard, her beautiful almond-shaped eyes fixed on him, asking without letting up, "Did you originally intend to pretend you didn't remember, or did you really forget?"

Wen Yan's words were sarcastic, because with Gu Yanci's photographic and auditory memory, it was impossible for him not to remember.

"Yan Yan, I'm sorry." Gu Yanci leaned down and kissed Wen Yan's cheek. "I will prepare the best scar removal cream for you and make sure you don't have any scars."

Wen Yan tried to turn her head away, but it was too late; she frowned.

Why are you apologizing to me? My injury wasn't caused by you.

Gu Yanci sat down by the bed. The chair he was using for accompanying patients was slightly smaller than the hospital bed, but even so, his gaze was still higher than Wen Yan's.

"You know why I apologized."

The two people gazed at each other silently.

"Then do you need me to apologize to Wen Muzhi?" Wen Yan asked again.

"Wen Yan, you don't need to do these things."

What he cared about was whether Wen Yan would be caught by Wen Muzhi for intentionally hurting someone.

As for an apology?

He has no morals!

Wen Yan found his words somewhat amusing, chuckled lightly, and said with unusual calmness, "Didn't you bring the relevant contracts for the divorce agreement? I don't need those assets. Why don't we have the lawyer prepare them? We can sign the papers tonight and go to the Civil Affairs Bureau tomorrow."

She was unusually calm, as if divorce were just an ordinary thing.

Gu Yanci's pupils suddenly contracted.

“Your body is not fully recovered yet.” His gaze fell on her hands, which were wrapped up tightly. “You can’t write, and you can’t even have your fingerprints recorded.”

Reminded of this, Wen Yan looked helplessly at her hands, her face showing visible regret and annoyance.

This hand will probably take half a month to heal.

Gu Yanci breathed a sigh of relief without showing any emotion.

"How is Wen Muzhi?" Wen Yan was genuinely curious.

After all, she can't even sign the divorce papers now, all thanks to Wen Muzhi!

"I don't know." When Gu Yanci left, Wen Muzhi was still undergoing a check-up. After receiving Wen Junming's call, he was preoccupied with Wen Yan.

As for Wen Muzhi's outcome, Zhou Qi is keeping an eye on it.

“You rushed over there, then said you didn’t know anything about her situation. Gu Yanci, you’re a strange person.” Wen Yan looked at her hands. “I won’t gossip about you and her, and I don’t want a bigger share of the inheritance. There’s nothing wrong with you admitting it.”

Gu Yanci understood her implied meaning and stood up angrily: "Wen Yan, do you really think I like Wen Muzhi?"

Wen Yan looked at him, puzzled: "Otherwise what? Are you just playing around with Wen Muzhi? I can't think of any other reason besides liking him."

Gu Yanci chuckled self-deprecatingly, "Of course you wouldn't be able to figure it out. Your attention is never on me, Wen Yan."

Wen Yan looked at him, her eyes filled with doubt and suspicion that she had been wronged.

Gu Yanci gently tucked a strand of Wen Yan's hair behind her ear. "Zhizhi, you don't have me in your heart, so naturally you can't think of any other reason."

When Wen Yan heard him say, "You don't have me in your heart," her heart skipped a beat. She felt guilty, as if her thoughts had been seen through, and instinctively shrank back.

She asked, almost as if possessed, "How do you know I don't have feelings for you?"

Her tone carried a mix of sarcasm and seriousness, so much so that even she couldn't tell the difference.

Gu Yanci paused for a rare moment, then said, "When you were little, your attention was on my brother. Now that you're older, you stare at all sorts of boys your age and say they're interesting."

Wen Yan doesn't remember staring at all sorts of boys her age.

She only remembered that when she was just beginning to experience romantic feelings, she liked to compare the men who pursued her with Gu Yanci—this one wasn't as handsome as Gu Yanci, that one wasn't as smart as Gu Yanci.

Is it interesting?

Indeed, those people were all more interesting than Gu Yanci, and they would frequently act silly and charming in front of her.

But why does Gu Yanci dislike her so much? Why does Gu Yanci always spend time with Wen Muzhi?

Aside from Gu Yanci liking Wen Muzhi, Wen Yan couldn't think of a second reason.

Every time she saw Gu Yanci appear in front of her with Wen Muzhi, she could only sulk.

She's so frustrated! She's had enough!

"I'm tired, I want to sleep." Wen Yan closed her eyes, not wanting to talk to him anymore.

Even with your eyes closed, you can still perceive your surroundings.

Wen Yan didn't hear him leave, and opened her eyes again: "Why aren't you leaving? Don't you need to take care of Wen Muzhi?"

"I'll take care of you," Gu Yanci said matter-of-factly. "You're my wife."

"Young Master Gu, I don't want to see you, okay? Gu Yanci, every time I see you, I think of how stupid I was to call you and ask you to come, and how you refused! Seeing you makes me feel like an idiot!"

A flash of pain crossed Gu Yanci's eyes, but he remained seated as steady as a mountain: "Wen Yan, I am still your guardian."

He won't leave.

"You won't be like that for long!"

Wen Yan was so angry that she closed her eyes again, turned her face to the side, and decided to ignore it.

When Gu Yanci heard her say "it won't be like that for a while," he looked disdainful and dismissive.

Wen Yan was weak and fell asleep while she was still angry.

She was a restless sleeper and tried to turn over, but the movement of her hands aggravated her wound. In her half-awake state, she whimpered in pain and her brow furrowed.

Upon hearing the sound, Gu Yanci immediately looked over, only to see a tear sliding down the corner of the woman's eye.

She was like this when she was a child. She would not show it on the surface when she was wronged, but she would secretly cry in her dreams when she fell asleep. When she woke up, she would not remember anything and would still show people a calm and proud side.

Gu Yanci felt a sharp pain in his heart and gently pressed down on her arms to prevent her from moving around again.

A moment later, Wen Yan turned to the side and naturally rested her face on Gu Yanci's thigh.

The soft, warm touch traveled through the thin trousers to the skin, sending a chill down one's spine.

Gu Yanci let out a long sigh of relief, forced to suppress the unbearable feeling.

"I won't divorce you." In the dim light, Gu Yanci whispered, "Baby, don't think about it."

-

"Oh shit!"

Wen Yan was startled awake by the strange cry.

I realized something was wrong as soon as I woke up.

Everything was dark before her eyes. She took a step back and realized that Gu Yanci had somehow gotten onto her bed and that her face was buried in his lap!

Gu Yanci's gaze shot like a cold arrow toward the ward door.

Wen Yan forced herself to remain calm and turned her head to look as if nothing had happened, only to see Wen Junming wiping his eyes.

"No, I thought you two were... doing that..." He stopped mid-sentence, remembering that the person in question was his sister. He licked his lips and couldn't finish his shameful words.

Wen Junming quickly changed the subject: "Mom and Dad said they want to come see you."

The ward fell silent as everyone awaited Wen Yan's reaction.

Gu Yanci said, "If you don't want to see me, then don't."

Wen Yan looked at him: "I've seen you. What do they have?"
