Night Fire Lingering

The corridor fell silent.

Wen Junming was a coward. Sensing that the atmosphere was not right, he silently moved half a step to the side.

"I'll go in and take a look." Gu Yanci's hand had just touched the doorknob of the ward, but before he could exert any force, the door was opened from the inside.

Jiang Huaixu walked out from inside.

Gu Yanci was stunned for a very short time. He wasn't too surprised that Jiang Huaixu found out so quickly that Wen Yan was hospitalized—with the Jiang family's power, it wouldn't be difficult to place a few more eyes around Wen Yan.

"Young Master Gu has arrived quite early." Jiang Huaixu closed the door behind him.

"Young Master Jiang has arrived early," Gu Yanci replied.

The former is a satire of Gu Yanci's late arrival.

The latter is a satire on the early arrival of the Jianghuai Preface.

Even though Wen Junming wasn't quite quick-witted enough, he still understood the implied meaning. He was shocked: "Brother-in-law, you know him? You even know that Wen Yan is keeping a gigolo?"

He was still thinking about how to defend Wen Yan, but now that's great, they don't need him anymore!

Wen Junming gave Gu Yanci a thumbs-up with a "brother-in-law, you're so generous" look on his face.

Upon hearing this, Jiang Huaixu glanced at Wen Junming but offered no explanation, accepting the identity of a gigolo without hesitation, and then looked at Gu Yanci.

Gu Yanci gritted his teeth: "Young Master Jiang is quite good at compromising."

He really is a pretty boy!

Jiang Huaixu smiled and said, "I've been through the gates of hell several times, so I don't care much about worldly fame and reputation."

If he could be a gigolo, why wouldn't he be happy to do it?

"Please make way." Gu Yanci was too lazy to argue with Jiang Huaixu here.

Jiang Huaixu stood motionless at the door of the ward. "Yan Yan is resting."

"Jiang Huaixu, by what right are you stopping me?" Gu Yanci's face was as cold as ice.

"Didn't my brother say he's a pretty boy?" Jiang Huaixu's relaxed, fake smile vanished.

He said, "Gu Yanci, when Yan Yan was brought here, both her hands were covered in injuries, the deepest one almost severing an artery. Where were you when she was injured? Where were you when she was so weak she didn't even have the strength to speak? You were with Wen Muzhi! You were with another woman! Gu Yanci, as Wen Yan's husband, you arrived at the hospital so much later than me, an outsider. Is that behaving properly? Who do you think you are, swaggering around here with your status?"

Every word Jiang Huaixu uttered was like a wake-up call to Gu Yanci.

Gu Yanci's face was extremely ugly.

Because of Jiang Huaixu's open defense of Wen Yan, and because every word Jiang Huaixu uttered left him speechless.

The atmosphere was stiff and cold. Wen Junming looked at Jiang Huaixu, then at Gu Yanci, too afraid to utter a sound.

"Well, I'll go in and check on Wen Yan." Wen Junming didn't want to be in the same space as these two people.

Gu Yanci wanted to follow him in, but Jiang Huaixu stopped him.

"Young Master Gu, why don't you wait until Yan Yan wakes up and see if she wants to see you? The patient is physically weak and can't handle big emotional fluctuations."

Gu Yanci, suppressing his heartache, retorted defiantly, "How long have you known her, and you already know she doesn't want to see me?"

"Gu Yanci, if she wasn't truly heartbroken, would she have felt so much pain when her dressing was changed, without any reaction at all?"

Gu Yanci's pupils trembled violently.

Wen Junming slipped into the ward as if he had gotten greased, and closed the door behind him.

Upon entering the room, Wen Junming felt that the oxygen in the air was much richer.

He had just caught his breath when he looked up and saw that Wen Yan on the bed had woken up at some point and was quietly looking at him.

“Um…” Wen Junming pointed to the door, “Gu Yanci is here.”

"Hmm." Wen Yan's reaction was indifferent.

The VIP ward was very soundproof, so she didn't actually hear anything, but she didn't know how she suddenly woke up.

Not long after opening her eyes, she saw Wen Junming rushing in as if he had been granted a pardon, and immediately guessed that it was Gu Yanci who had arrived.

"Gu Yanci is being kept out by your kept man, do you want to see him? Which one do you want to see?" Wen Junming exaggeratedly grabbed his neck, "You have no idea how exciting it is out there, I almost screamed for help!"

When Wen Yan heard the words "pretty boy," it took her a while to realize who Wen Junming was referring to.

"He is my senior, named Jiang Huaixu, the only son of the Jiang family in Nancheng, not some pretty boy."

"The only son of the Jiang family in Nancheng? Holy crap, you managed to get him!"

"..." It's like casting pearls before swine!

Having recovered a little, Wen Yan's mind quickly came to mind, and she asked, "Where are my clothes?"

Wen Yan is currently wearing a hospital gown; her blood-stained regular clothes are thrown into the laundry basket.

Wen Yan asked Wen Junming to bring it to her. She touched the sealed bag containing the toothbrush head and the blood-stained tissue in the bag and secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

"What about Gu Yanci...?" Wen Junming, who was always thinking about his sugar daddy brother-in-law, pointed to the door.

"Did he bring any documents with him when he came?" Wen Yan asked calmly.

Wen Junming shook his head.

Bringing documents to the hospital to visit his wife? That's outrageous!

"Then I won't see him."

Wen Junming walked to the bedside and asked Wen Yan, "Is there really no future for you and him? He's the one who asked me to come find you today. He cares about you a lot."

“Junming, the last phone call I made before I fainted was to Gu Yanci, but he didn’t come to see me.” Wen Yan’s tone and expression were calm, no longer showing any sadness. “If he really cared about me, the person who would have taken me to the hospital after finding me lying in a pool of blood should not have been you, but him.”

Wen Junming stood there, stunned.

So Gu Yanci was the heartless person all along!
