Night Fire Lingering

Chapter 53 Signing the Divorce Agreement

Gu Yanci repeated her name over and over again, filled with endless longing.

Wen Yan's eyelashes trembled slightly, and she felt a little uncomfortable in her heart.

"Gu Yanci, wake up!"

Wen Yan raised her voice slightly and gently patted his face, trying to bring him back to his senses.

A full minute passed before the man reopened his eyes and looked at her.

His eyes were exceptionally deep, yet a layer of moisture from the alcohol softened them, lending them a gentler quality. But his handsome face remained expressionless, chillingly cold. This extreme contradiction was unsettling.

Wen Yan was startled; Gu Yanci had never looked at him like that before.

Soon, in the next second, he reverted to his usual indifferent demeanor.

Gu Yanci glanced away, grabbed Wen Yan's waist, put her down on the side, and then picked up a glass of wine and poured it into his mouth.

Wen Yan felt light and found herself in a different place, leaving her somewhat dazed.

She then looked at the man beside her who had steadily moved her: "Gu Yanci, are you awake?"

Gu Yanci didn't answer or look at her, but his drinking motion clearly paused for a moment.

"Your stomach isn't good, don't drink anymore." Wen Yan took the wine away. "Where do you want to go? I'll have someone take you home."

Gu Yanci owns several properties in the capital city, and he usually has a spare house in the places he frequents.

"It's none of your business," Gu Yanci said coldly.

Wen Yan rolled her eyes, took the wine from his hand, and thought he was really difficult to deal with.

"Gu Yanci, Lou Qi asked me to take you back, so I have an obligation to make sure you are safe!"

"What obligations do you have?" Gu Yanci suddenly looked up.

Wen Yan: "..."

“If you say it’s my duty as a wife, then I’ll go home with you.”

"..."

Wen Yan turned around and found a wine shop: "Remove all his wine, keep an eye on him, send him to this address, and arrange for someone to take care of him."

Wen Yan gave Gu Yanci the address of the nearest house and also gave him a tip for the winery.

"Yes, yes!" the wineryman said happily, "May I ask who this guest is?"

"Mrs."

There are many couples in this circle who are only superficially harmonious. It's not uncommon for wives to find someone to send their husbands back home; some wives even find other women for their husbands.

The winery asked, "What kind of person are you looking for? Are there any gender requirements?"

Wen Yan: "..."

Isn't the question just about finding someone safe or someone to stay with you in bed?

Wen Yan said, "There are no gender requirements, but you must keep your mouth shut and not be presumptuous."

The winery is doing very well.

As soon as Wen Yan left, the man on the sofa stopped drinking and looked at her.

He only looked away and took another sip of his drink after the woman's figure had completely disappeared from the crowd and outside the door.

"Sir, I'll have someone deliver it—"

Before Jiu Bao could speak, Gu Yanci had already stood up, his gaze cold and piercing, making Jiu Bao immediately afraid to speak.

"Call her in an hour."

Less than an hour after Wen Yan arrived home, she received a message from the winery saying that they had safely returned her home.

Wen Yan was puzzled for a moment.

Gu Yanci was so obedient, and he went back so quickly? The way he acted just now, he didn't seem obedient at all.

She shook her head, trying to control herself from overthinking and worrying.

Two days later.

Wen Yan received a phone call: "Mrs. Gu, I am Mr. Gu's private lawyer. Mr. Gu said that you want to talk to me about divorce, is that right?"

Wen Yan was surprised that the lawyer would call her so quickly, and for a moment she couldn't believe it.

It wasn't until I sat down and talked with Gu Yanci's lawyer in a coffee shop that it felt real.

"This is the property division agreement, please take a look."

Wen Yan didn't open the contract to look at it: "I don't need these."

Wen Yan just wanted to finish all the formalities as soon as possible; property division would only slow down the divorce process.

"Mr. Gu said it was necessary; he doesn't treat people unfairly," the lawyer said.

Wen Yan frowned, still wanting to resolve things quickly. After thinking for a moment, she directly opened the divorce agreement and signed her name.

If no agreement can be reached on the division of property, and there are further objections, it's unclear how long this process will continue.

"Madam, won't you take a look?" The lawyer was taken aback, but Wen Yan signed the document immediately.

"He won't do anything to make me share the debt, and as for assets, I don't care."

Two people discussing divorce: one is considerate of the other and proactively divides the property, while the other trusts the other so much that they don't even glance at the divorce agreement. This is the first time a lawyer has ever seen something like this.

"Mr. Gu gave you twelve properties, six of which are in China and the other six in countries you frequently visit, as well as a certain amount of Gu Group stock and cash, and some jewelry."

"And overseas properties?" Wen Yan felt a little uncomfortable. "I can do without those; they're useless to me."

The lawyer smiled professionally: "Madam, this was decided by Mr. Gu. If you have any objections, I suggest you talk to Mr. Gu."

Mr. Gu's request was to give his wife some practical assets that she could use, preferably those with long processing times.

Transferring assets overseas is complicated, and transferring stocks is also complicated.

"...Never mind, let's leave it at that." She didn't want to talk to Gu Yanci.

Wen Yan comforted herself, at least she had signed the divorce agreement, which could be considered as taking the first step in a proper way.

-

"Mr. Gu, your wife has signed it." The lawyer handed two copies of the divorce agreement signed by Wen Yan to Gu Yanci. "She has no objection to the division of property."

Gu Yanci hummed in agreement, then placed the divorce agreement directly into the drawer without even glancing at it.

The lawyer advised, "Mr. Gu, you haven't signed this divorce agreement yet. It will only become effective after you sign it."

"I know"

A divorce agreement requires the signatures of both spouses. Wen Yan has signed it, but he hasn't.

"If my wife asks about my progress..."

"Continue with the property transfer procedures; figure out the rest yourself."

The key is to prevent Wen Yan from discovering that Gu Yanci never intended to divorce. He needs to pretend that the divorce process is proceeding smoothly, even if it takes a little longer.

The lawyer was stunned for a moment, then realized Gu Yanci's intention, and was at a loss for words.

Other wealthy men are afraid that their wives will take even a penny more from them when they get divorced.

This guy, on the other hand, is actively giving away money, and in huge amounts at that!
