Chapter 35: Too Many Little Tricks

Gu Heng actually felt that it was no big deal to have made a wasted trip.

The blows he had suffered were no less severe than returning empty-handed, even though, strictly speaking, he had at least taken in a ghost as a... friend?

It definitely won't be a pet.

Gu Heng carried a lantern, and with Jian Xuan shining inside, the hall didn't seem particularly dark anymore. He walked around the hall several times.

Finally, he stopped, feeling a pang of disappointment.

There's definitely no chance here.

This is the tomb of an emperor, but it has absolutely nothing to do with the Sun Flame Dynasty. Their imperial tomb is not here, and it is definitely not a place that ordinary people can trespass on. The reason why there is a tomb in this mountain... is probably because the previous dynasty was destroyed, and the tomb of the last emperor was simply built in this desolate wilderness.

In the center of the main hall is a bronze coffin, the lid of which has been pried open!

Given how dire the situation had become, Gu Heng knew he was definitely too late. Perhaps there had been some opportunities in the past, but there were none now.

There wasn't much left in this place. He could see some burial gold and silver, or some very ordinary, low-quality white jade, but he wasn't interested in these things. Money was indispensable to him, but it wasn't that important either. It was best not to steal the offerings.

The only truly imposing structures are the twelve armored sculptures beside the coffin. They were perhaps the emperor's strongest generals in life, and their armor was placed here to guard the coffin after death.

But this obviously didn't stop those guys who pried open the coffin.

"Sigh...it seems the guy lying here is quite pitiful." Gu Heng bowed twice to the coffin to show his respect for the deceased. Then, he curiously glanced into the coffin, wanting to see just how luxurious the "bed" where the emperor slept after his death was.

He looked inside and found no remains.

But underneath, a silver-white jade pendant lay quietly, its color smooth and lustrous. Even though the coffin looked somewhat rusty, the jade pendant was not.

"what is this?"

Gu Heng picked it up, examined it for a while, but couldn't figure out what was going on. In the end, he put it directly into his system inventory.

But suddenly, the twelve armored sculptures next to them started to move!

"Wow!"

A clanging sound of metal clashing rang out, and the armored sculptures raised their swords and swiftly attacked Gu Heng!

"These things can move!?"

Jian Xuan exclaimed in shock that some kind of dormant soul seemed to reside within these twelve suits of armor, but now they had suddenly been awakened, and each of them seemed to possess the strength of the tenth level of the Tribulation Transcending stage.

It seems that this nameless emperor's tomb is truly fraught with danger.

Jian Xuan thought to himself that even if he had passed the first two obstacles unscathed, he would probably have been tortured to death once he entered this main hall.

"Tsk, these little tricks again, how boring."

Gu Heng frowned, thinking that he had never seen any truly dangerous traps or mechanisms in this tomb, but he certainly knew a whole series of tricks designed to fool people.

He immediately attacked, using both fists and feet, and smashed the moving armor sculpture into a pile of parts.

His "body tempering" skill was also superb, and this skill was actually very useful. Although it couldn't make money, after Gu Heng reached the maximum level, he never got those common minor illnesses again.

He even once competed with a 200-pound strongman in a chest-breaking contest. These things aren't scary at all.

"Are you alright, Lao Xuan?"

Gu Heng waved the lamp in his hand.

"It's alright. Young Master Gu's strength is indeed formidable. This little setup is truly useless against you."

Jian Xuan watched as he effortlessly dismantled twelve armored spirits. Even in his lifetime, he might not have been able to easily deal with twelve things of this strength. He wondered how powerful this young master Gu must be.

Taking things for granted is meaningless.

His presence was impossible to detect; he was too well concealed.

"Mmm, whatever you say is fine."

Gu Heng didn't want to pay attention to him anymore. He had become a ghost, so his thinking wasn't very clear. He probably really thought of him as some kind of powerful figure.

But what interested him was that the armor sculptures moved as soon as he approached the bronze coffin... was it because he took the jade pendant?

If that's the case, then this jade pendant probably has a special history.

Gu Heng knew he wouldn't come up with anything here, so he decided to leave and head into the city first.

He turned and walked out of the main hall.

Following the direction he had come from, he walked out of the cave again and came outside. Gu Heng looked up and found that it was already dawn.

Before I knew it, the night had passed.

Gu Heng didn't feel sleepy, perhaps because he had left the familiar place of Qingmu City and it was really hard to fall asleep in the mountains.

"Well, you're so obedient."

Gu Heng saw the little silver cat lying by the tree root, knowing that the little guy had obediently listened to him and hadn't run around, so he patiently waited for him to come out. Sensing that the wall of sword intent had rippled again, Su Jinxi immediately looked up. Gu Heng came out carrying a lantern. She squinted her cat eyes and discovered that there seemed to be a rather powerful remnant soul inside the lantern!

Did the master make a gain?

"Oh...it's actually a nine-lived demon cat at the tenth level of the Tribulation Transcending stage?"

Jian Xuan also saw her and was immediately stunned.

"who are you?"

Su Jinxi communicated telepathically, her eyes fixed on the white sphere glowing inside the lamp.

"Purple Sword Master, Sword Profound."

"Purple Sword Immortal? The Grand Elder of the Myriad Swords Immortal Sect who disappeared without a trace more than two thousand years ago?"

Su Jinxi was also stunned. She naturally did not expect that Gu Heng would bring out this former Grand Elder of the Myriad Swords Immortal Sect, who had long been considered dead, from this hidden place. He was now living in the form of a remnant soul. More than two thousand years had passed, the sect leader had changed, and so had the Grand Elder.

"I also had some acquaintances with the Nine-Lives Demon Cat clan back then. I wonder how Su Fangchun is doing now?"

“Su Fangchun is now the patriarch of my clan,” Su Jinxi said.

Jian Xuan felt that time was passing really quickly.

"It seems that we now have a common ruler."

Su Jinxi looked at the ancient lamp that Jian Xuan had used to reside in and immediately recognized its extraordinary nature. She guessed that Gu Heng had taken it in because he felt sorry for Jian Xuan's remnant soul and wanted him to nurture his soul in peace.

It can be said that Jian Xuan was lucky.

"However, why don't you reveal your true form?" Jian Xuan asked.

"He likes me this way, probably because he thinks I'm cuter this way."

"Oh……"

Jian Xuan understood. He used to have a little demon cat, a very small demon beast, which was very comfortable to touch. Since then, he has especially loved petting cats.

But compared to him, Gu Heng's pursuits were clearly more refined.

He raises demonic beasts, while others raise demons, and these are demons at the tenth level of the Tribulation Transcending stage.

"Come back, we should head into town."

Gu Heng stuffed the ancient lamp into his system backpack. The system backpack couldn't hold living beings, and the remnant soul inside the lamp was clearly not defined as a living being. He picked up Xiao Xi, placed her in his arms, and walked down the mountain along the path.
