Chapter 246 Such a Farewell

Jiang Mian slowly washed her hands under the tap, but she felt that the bloody smell, which she didn't know if it was real or not, seemed impossible to get rid of.

When Jiang Mian came out of the restroom, she saw Lu Chaochi sitting on Gong Yan's lap, with his arms around Gong Yan's neck and his chin resting on her shoulder.

Lu Chaochi had stopped crying. In front of outsiders, he seemed much stronger than other children his age.

But the moment she saw Jiang Mian coming over, her big, round eyes filled with shimmering tears, as if she was about to cry.

Jiang Mian silently took a deep breath, controlled her emotions, walked over, and picked up Lu Chaochi.

The child leaned on his mother's shoulder, and tears finally streamed down his face like beads from a broken string.

"Don't cry, don't cry." Jiang Mian gently patted his back and carried him around.

"Will Dad...die?" Lu Chaochi finally asked the question he had never dared to say.

Because he had no mother to take care of him since he was a child, Lu Chaochi understood the meaning of death better than other children his age.

Jiang Mian couldn't bring herself to say such cruel things to the child.

She paused for a moment, then said, "Baby, the doctor has finished the surgery. Now it depends on whether Daddy can pull through."

Lu Chaochi held Jiang Mian's neck without saying a word.

Lu Chaochi wanted to say something optimistic and resilient, but the child's mindset had always been rather pessimistic.

He didn't say anything; he just remained silent.

He quietly waited outside with Jiang Mian. However, because he had cried for so long, he quickly fell asleep on Jiang Mian's shoulder.

Song Xun was a little worried and suggested in a low voice, "Jiang Mian, why don't you two go and rest in the ward?"

Jiang Mian nodded, stood up with the child in her arms, and Song Xun reached out to help her hold the child.

But Jiang Mian shook her head, afraid of waking the child.

She asked in a low voice, "No... is anyone else coming?"

Song Xun understood Jiang Mian's meaning; she was probably asking if Lu Bozhou's parents would come.

Song Xun shook his head. "Bo Zhou has no intention of letting them know about this."

Jiang Mian was somewhat surprised, "But he is now..."

Jiang Mian knew that Lu Bozhou and his parents had always had a bad relationship, but she didn't expect that he wouldn't even let Song Xun tell his parents about something like this.

Song Xun looked at her, then glanced down at the child, lowering his voice even further.

“Ever since you… had that accident, he’s hated them.” Song Xun’s words stunned Jiang Mian.

"He was so focused on solving those troubles and dangers that he didn't think about protecting himself from his parents. As a result, you got into trouble as soon as you left their house."

“His parents have their own assets, which they have entrusted to Bo Zhou for investment over the years, and they have made a lot of money.”

"They have their own money, money that Bozhou helped them earn. But besides that..."

Song Xun didn't continue, but Jiang Mian understood what he meant.

She nodded slightly to indicate that she understood, and followed Song Xun to Lu Bozhou's ward.

She had previously preferred to wait outside the operating room rather than go to the ward because she couldn't help but think of the blood on the floor.

But actually, when I came in, the floor had already been cleaned very thoroughly, as if nothing had happened.

Jiang Mian gently placed the child on Lu Bozhou's previous hospital bed.

After covering him with a blanket, I looked at the child lying on his father's sickbed.

The sadness that Jiang Mian had been suppressing all along suddenly overwhelmed her. It was as if she suddenly couldn't imagine the possibility that Lu Bozhou was gone.

Perhaps it's just... that I can't accept this kind of farewell.

It wasn't even a farewell; there was no farewell.

Perhaps it's like... how Lu Bozhou felt when she was gone.

……

"How are you?" Gong Yan walked into the ward, and Jiang Yu followed behind her, carrying a lunchbox.

Jiang Yu put the lunchbox on the table, walked to Jiang Mian's side, gently put his hand on Jiang Mian's shoulder, and glanced at the person on the hospital bed.

The person on the hospital bed, with a pale, handsome face, was sleeping peacefully.

"What did the doctor say?" Jiang Yu glanced at the lines on the monitor.

Jiang Mian pursed her lips. "The same as always."

Lu Bozhou had been in a coma for several days, but because his vital signs had stabilized, he was able to be transferred from the ICU back to his ward.

But he hasn't woken up for several days.

Song Xu said that the coma caused by blood loss should have been resolved after the surgery, once the vital signs stabilized and the patient was out of danger.

But Lu Bozhou has not woken up yet; it has been almost a week.

Song Xu said that if things continue like this, the situation may get worse. But all they can do now is wait.

Jiang Mian stayed in the ward the whole time.

Not long after Gong Yan arrived, Jiang Yu also arrived. Although Jiang Yu was quite annoyed with Lu Bozhou, he never expected to see him like this.

So even though Jiang Yu found him quite annoying, he never tried to persuade Jiang Mian to leave. He just came over every day to deliver meals, keep his sister company, and also spend time with his little nephew.

Jiang Yudu came, and naturally his parents came too.

Song Wan and Jiang Shan visited Lu Bozhou once, but never again. They dislike hospitals, and seeing Lu Bozhou's current state reminded them of Jiang Mian's precarious situation back then.

So they prepared meals every day and had Jiang Yu deliver them, sometimes even coming over to watch over them, so that their daughter could have some time to sleep peacefully.

No matter what, no matter how many emotions she has, she'll wait until Lu Bozhou wakes up before talking about them.

Jiang Shan and Song Wan felt sorry for their daughter. They saw that Jiang Mian stayed in the ward every day, and although her three meals a day were normal and regular under the care of her parents, she was still very busy.

But she didn't seem to get healthier; instead, she seemed to be getting weaker day by day.

Song Wan and Jiang Shan were both very worried. As soon as Jiang Yu came out of the hospital, Song Wan and Jiang Shan were waiting for him outside.

Song Wan anxiously grabbed Jiang Yu and asked, "How is it?"

Jiang Shan's voice betrayed his anxiety, "How is your sister?"

“…The same as always.” Jiang Yu’s voice was low and somewhat grave. “But I feel that if Lu Bozhou doesn’t wake up soon, my sister’s condition might…”

“I asked Dr. Song.” Song Wan’s heart was breaking. “Mianmian’s condition is getting worse and worse. We can all see it, and of course the doctor can see it too.”

"Dr. Song said that when he came to the ward during his night shift, he found that your sister was not in good condition, so he connected her to a monitor and checked her vital signs. The data were not good. But when he did the tests the next day, he couldn't find anything wrong."

Gong Yan walked up from behind, her brow furrowed with worry. "Could it be something other than a medical problem?"

"What's the problem?" Song Wan asked anxiously.

Gong Yan thought for a moment, "It's metaphysical? After all, we all know about Mianmian's situation... it can't be explained by common sense."
