Chapter 243: One Life for One Life

Jiang Mian was somewhat frightened, a fear that was far more pronounced than when she first learned of Lu Bozhou's accident.

She didn't know why, perhaps because someone who had died once had a keen enough premonition of real danger.

Jiang Mian stumbled inside, unable to wait for the elevator, and rushed straight to the stairs.

Two nurses were coming down the stairs, looking rather hurried.

"That was terrifying! I thought they were here to cause trouble at the hospital!"

"Yeah, who would have thought it was revenge! I wonder how it is now. Did you see it clearly just now?"

"How could I dare to look! I was terrified!"

"You're not going to die, are you?"

Hearing their conversation, Jiang Mian's legs went weak and she almost fell down the stairs.

The two nurses were startled and quickly helped her up, asking, "Are you alright?"

Seeing Jiang Mian's pale face, the nurse quickly took out two candies from her pocket, unwrapped them, and prepared to put them in her mouth, probably thinking that she had low blood sugar.

Jiang Mian waved her hand, her voice low and hoarse, "Excuse me...excuse me, were you talking about the private room earlier?"

The nurse was taken aback. "How did you know?"

Jiang Mian felt as if she had been hammered. She stood up, leaning on the railing, and continued to stumble upstairs.

A large crowd had gathered at the entrance of the department, including patients and medical staff. No one dared to go inside, probably for fear of being caught in the crossfire.

The perpetrator has been subdued and was escorted out of the ward by police officers with his arms twisted behind his back.

Jiang Mian's gaze suddenly stopped... It was Lu Bolin!

Lu Bo was bleeding profusely from his head; blood flowed from his hair down his forehead, staining his face crimson and his collar red.

Even while being held captive, Lu Bolin remained arrogant and deranged, laughing and shouting, "Lu Bozhou! With your life for my life, I've had enough even if I die! Hahahaha!"

Jiang Mian's eyes stung painfully from the bloodstains on Lu Bolin's clothes.

He only had a head injury, so where did all the blood on his body come from?

After Lu Bolin was escorted out, the doctor at the ward door quickly went inside.

Jiang Mian suddenly came to her senses and rushed into the ward.

The nurse at the door recognized her as someone who had been there before, and considering that it might not be appropriate for family members to see the situation inside, she tried to stop her.

But they couldn't stop them at all; Jiang Mian barged in.

The first thing you see is a pool of glaring blood, which looks particularly shocking against the light-colored hospital floor.

Lu Bozhou lay dead in a pool of blood.

Amidst her own rapid heartbeat, Jiang Mian watched as medical staff rushed up to stop Lu Bozhou's bleeding.

She saw Lu Bozhou's half-open eyes; his face was pale from blood loss, and there was no light in his pupils.

But his gaze seemed to catch Jiang Mian, and then his focus was fixed on her, never looking away.

Jiang Mian took a few steps forward. Just as the doctor was about to urge her to leave, the person who had been on the verge of death suddenly seemed to have gained strength.

Bloodstained fingers grabbed Jiang Mian's trouser leg.

Jiang Mian squatted down next to him and heard him close his lips and utter two silent syllables.

He was calling her name.

Sleepy, Cotton...

Jiang Mian looked down and saw the wound on his body, which the doctor was pressing with a large piece of cotton gauze. In a short while, the gauze was soaked with bright red blood.

The scarlet color stung her eyes, and she dared not look at it for long.

The oxygen mask was already on Lu Bozhou's face, and his eyes seemed unfocused.

But he struggled to raise his hand and pulled a ring from the blood-stained breast pocket of his shirt.

The ring was old and had long been stained with blood.

Lu Bozhou wanted to put the ring into Jiang Mian's hand, but before he could do so...

His arm suddenly fell limply to the ground, the bloodstained ring rolling off the floor. The crisp sound of metal hitting the ground was drowned out by the more piercing alarm of the monitor.

Jiang Mian bit her lower lip hard, the taste of blood spreading between her teeth, as if a string in her chest had snapped in an instant.

"Ventricular fibrillation shock! Bring the defibrillator!"

Jiang Mian was stopped by the nurses outside the blue curtain. Through the gap, she could see Lu Bozhou's pale chest bouncing slightly under the electric shock.

Like a crane with broken wings.

"200 joules! Second time! Let go!"

The sounds coming from inside made Jiang Mian's stomach cramp, and the smell of disinfectant suddenly became tangible.

The strong smell of blood and rust from the delivery room five years ago lingered as she slowly squatted down, leaning against the wall.

Her fingers were clenched too tightly, and the object in her palm was digging painfully into them. Looking down, she realized that in the chaos, she had picked up the bloodstained ring.

Jiang Mian wiped away the bloodstains and examined it closely...

She recognized it; it was her wedding ring.

Five years ago, after her death, Lu Bozhou put away her wedding ring, but now it has returned to her hands.

The cold ring now seemed to have a scorching heat.

Song Xun arrived at some point and stood beside her, looking exhausted.

“The matter has been resolved,” Song Xun said. “He has a stubborn personality and has always known about the internal situation and relationships of the Lu family. There will definitely be countless troubles. In addition, the inheritance left to him by the old man before his death will only make things worse.”

"His original intention in choosing to start Dingsheng on his own, instead of staying with Lu's Group, was to leave the Lu family's circle. But many things can't be left unattended just because he doesn't participate."

"His biggest fear is that his weaknesses will be exploited and used against him. Ever since he learned that Lu Bolin had escaped, he has been planning to resolve all the troubles at once."

"With his previous injury, the Lu family is no longer a threat. The only threat is Lu Bolin, who is like a ticking time bomb."

“Now all the threats have been resolved,” Song Xun sighed softly. “He’ll be taking care of himself soon too.”

Jiang Mian thought of the third floor, which was off-limits to anyone and filled with her belongings, and of the phone with over four thousand unread messages, each one a testament to his longing.

This man may have already crushed his sincerity, mixing it with blood and tears to pave her way home.

The operating room was ready, and Lu Bozhou was quickly wheeled into it.

As the blue curtain was drawn back and Lu Bozhou was being wheeled into the operating room by medical staff, Jiang Mian saw faint lines appear on the monitoring equipment.

Outside the operating room, a cold white light shines constantly, day and night.

Jiang Mian clasped her hands together, the hard rings digging into her palms.

This involuntarily brought back those dreamlike scenes she had experienced in the bathtub before…

A feeling slowly welled up inside Jiang Mian.

If those images were truly memories of my soul when my fate was uncertain...

So now that Lu Bozhou's fate is unknown inside, is he... also around here?
