Chapter 171 I Must Be Superstitious
A person who is truly about to die shouldn't hear knocking.
When she died in her previous life, she wouldn't have heard the knocking on the door.
She was completely unaware of all the torment she endured in the ICU.
But Song Xun knocked on the door.
Song Xun's action eased Jiang Mian's anxiety.
I was worried that I might see something horrific when I went inside.
I'm not so worried now.
However, the scene that greeted Jiang Mian upon entering still shocked her.
After she went in, she stood there blankly, staring at the person on the hospital bed.
The man, dressed in a hospital gown, sat cross-legged on the hospital bed, with a pile of documents spread out on it.
He was looking down as he flipped through the pages, appearing both busy and relaxed, a rather contradictory sight.
But no matter how you look at it, the man doesn't seem to be injured.
There were no beeping machines in the hospital bed, and he didn't even have an IV drip.
Completely unharmed.
Jiang Mian blinked and stared at him, somewhat surprised, even though she had assumed that Lu Bozhou was alright.
But I never expected to be completely unharmed, because the video footage actually looked quite frightening.
"What?" the man's deep voice rang out. "Are you quite disappointed?"
Jiang Mian asked hesitantly, "Are you alright?"
"Okay, come here." Lu Bozhou beckoned to her.
Jiang Mian walked over, and he pulled her to sit down by the hospital bed.
"If you're okay, why was that video so scary?" Jiang Mian's eyes widened.
Not entirely at ease, she reached out and touched his body, trying to see if there were any injuries.
"Don't touch me like that." Lu Bozhou grabbed her wandering hand.
"Aren't you injured?" Jiang Mian asked again.
"Hmm." Lu Bozhou thought for a moment, "Oh, here it is."
He pulled up his trouser leg. "The falling object hit a glass bottle, and shards of glass splashed onto my leg."
Jiang Mian looked at the tiny cut on his ankle. How tiny was it...?
"If I don't check on it soon, it will heal completely," Jiang Mian said.
It's amazing that he could even spot such a small wound.
Lu Bozhou raised an eyebrow upon hearing this.
Song Xun said from the side, "Boss, your wife was so worried that she rushed to Dingsheng."
"Oh?" Lu Bozhou looked down at Jiang Mian with interest.
Jiang Mian's eyes widened slightly as she turned to look at Song Xun, "Assistant Song!"
Song Xun wasn't paid by her, so naturally he didn't listen to her.
He continued with a smile, "I was originally going to tell my wife the truth, but then Lu Bolin came, and I couldn't say anything since he was here."
"Then I thought, since I was going to come anyway, I might as well bring my wife along. You can take care of your wife yourself," Song Xun said.
Upon hearing this, Lu Bozhou lowered his eyes to look at Jiang Mian, "I thought you would be happy if I died? You'd soon be the richest widow in Luo City..."
Before he could finish speaking, Jiang Mian covered his mouth.
She frowned. "You shouldn't say things like that so casually in the future."
Lu Bozhou looked at her calmly, his warm breath brushing against her palm.
"I think it's because you've said too many unlucky things that you got stabbed before and almost got hit by something this time," Jiang Mian said, her brows furrowed.
A moment later, Jiang Mian released her hand from his mouth.
Lu Bozhou said calmly, "I didn't realize you were so superstitious."
Jiang Mian casually replied, "I have to be superstitious."
"Why is it necessary?" Lu Bozhou asked.
Jiang Mian was taken aback.
Because her current state is a product of superstition. Science cannot produce this state in her.
Jiang Mian didn't answer that question and changed the subject.
"What exactly happened? How did this happen so suddenly?" Jiang Mian asked.
Lu Bozhou's voice was quite calm.
"Didn't I tell you to give the information to Lu Bolin before?"
Jiang Mian nodded, saying that what she called "information" was actually a scheme Lu Bozhou had set up for Lu Bolin.
"He didn't dare to act rashly, probably because I was still in Los Angeles, so I simply found an excuse to go on a business trip."
"When I went to inspect the construction site, I happened to witness an object falling from a height," Lu Bozhou said.
Song Xun sighed from the side, "The BOSS was lucky. It wasn't a very heavy object, nor did it fall from a very high place. It fell from the third floor and didn't hit the BOSS."
"After the incident, in order to take this matter seriously, we checked the surveillance footage. It looked quite frightening, so the boss thought we might as well cut out the footage and send it back to Lu Bolin to fool him," Song Xun said.
So that's how it was. Jiang Mian breathed a sigh of relief.
Although Gong Yan had already set her sights on Lu Bozhou's inheritance.
But Jiang Mian still hoped that he could live a good life.
"That was too dangerous," Jiang Mian exclaimed. "But it's good that everyone is alright. Thank goodness."
Lu Bozhou seemed to have thought of something, and looked down at her. "But I had Song Xun send this video back to Lu Bolin to make him happy and lower his guard."
He looked at Jiang Mian and asked, "How did you see that? Where did you see it from?"
“I…” Jiang Mian bit her lip, thought for a moment but still didn’t bring up Gong Yan, and only said, “Jiang Yu showed it to me.”
Lu Bozhou's expression didn't change much; he simply said calmly, "He'll be overjoyed."
Jiang Mian couldn't help but explain for her younger brother, "It shouldn't be that bad. President Jiang has a conflict with you, but it's not to the point where he wants something to happen to you."
“He cursed me to die quite a few times before,” Lu Bozhou said calmly. “But it doesn’t matter, I can make him unhappy as soon as I get back.”
Seeing that Lu Bozhou was alright, Jiang Mian finally felt relieved. She didn't plan to stay there any longer and wanted to leave with Song Xun later to return to Luocheng.
Unexpectedly, Lu Bozhou was dissatisfied with this.
He frowned slightly. "Go back? Why? We're already here."
Jiang Mian was somewhat helpless; whatever had happened, had happened.
They didn't come here as tourists.
“I thought you were seriously injured, that’s why I came over,” Jiang Mian said helplessly. “I thought I could take care of you, but you’re fine now, and Xiao Shitou is all alone in Luocheng.”
Lu Bozhou's brows remained furrowed, and he was not happy.
Jiang Mian vaguely sensed that something was wrong with him, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
Seeing that he didn't seem very happy, Jiang Mian thought for a moment and said, "Then how about I wait for you to go back together?"
After saying that, the man seemed to feel a little better.
Song Xun prepared to drive back to Luoyang overnight.
Before he left, Jiang Mian saw him off outside.
“Assistant Song, I feel like… Lu Bozhou’s emotional state seems a bit off.”
Jiang Mian had sensed it before, but she didn't feel comfortable asking Lu Bozhou.
Song Xun blurted out, "Maybe I haven't taken my medicine today..."
