Chapter 15 I Sold You for Dowry Money

"I don't need a second Jiang Mian."

As soon as Lu Bozhou said this, the scene fell into a deathly silence.

Lu Hong and Yan Ke's expressions were somewhat stiff.

Five years have passed, and this name is rarely mentioned in this family, as if it were a taboo.

The silence lasted for quite a while.

Yan Ke frowned and said, "What nonsense are you talking about in front of the child..."

Neither Yan Ke nor Lu Hong were really sure anymore. They never mentioned this name because they were afraid of upsetting the child.

Or was it because he was afraid of Lu Bozhou...

After all, the situation I experienced five years ago in front of the ICU is still like a nightmare whenever I think about it.

Even though they felt a pang of sadness thinking about what happened back then, Lu Hong and Yan Ke still felt even more sorry for their grandson.

Especially after hearing what Lu Bozhou just said.

Lu Chaochi, huddled behind, curled up even more, seemingly distressed even without speaking…

Yan Ke lowered her voice and frowned, "Besides, you've managed to find someone to comfort yourself all these years, why can't you find someone to comfort yourself every day?"

"Don't think I don't read those news articles. Your dad and I aren't that old-fashioned; we read them all."

"Comfort?" Lu Bozhou raised an eyebrow slightly, neither confirming nor denying.

Without answering her parents' questions, she simply said, "I'm taking him back now. You two should get some rest."

Then he went up, bent down, and scooped the child from the sofa into his arms.

Before leaving, as if remembering something, Lu Bozhou stopped in his tracks.

"By the way, the reason he was hospitalized with gastroenteritis this time was because he ate some spicy snacks that someone gave him."

"What?" Yan Ke and Lu Hong were taken aback.

Lu Chaochi's eyes widened. He knew how much his grandparents loved him, which was why he thought of bringing this up with them.

But he also knew very well that, given how much his grandparents doted on him, if they found out he was hospitalized because of the snacks Mianmian gave him, he would be in big trouble...

Lu Chaochi anxiously tugged at Lu Bozhou's clothes, "Dad... let's go back!"

Fortunately, although the grandparents were worried, they didn't dwell on the matter.

"Alright, don't blame Chaochao. What kid isn't curious about snacks?"

"So it would be good to find him a nanny as soon as possible, so that she can take care of him and prepare some healthier and cleaner snacks."

"Or just go along with Chaochao's wishes. It's just that the names are the same... what's the big deal?"

After leaving his grandparents' house, Lu Chaochi visibly breathed a sigh of relief, clearly having been worried that his father would push Mianmian out of the house.

Lu Chaochi bit his lip and whispered, "I didn't mean to..."

“You are,” Lu Bozhou’s voice was undeniably certain, “You’re just scared now.”

Lu Chaochi did not refute Lu Bozhou's words, but pursed his lips even tighter.

Lu Bozhou's voice was deep, his profound gaze fixed on Lu Chaochi's face, "Why weren't you afraid when you ate things haphazardly?"

After a moment of silence, Lu Chaochi softly said, "...I'm sorry."

Lu Chaochi didn't notice that the moment he uttered that apology...

The father's expression suddenly froze, and his eyes seemed dazed. Although his gaze remained fixed on him, it was as if he were looking through him back to some distant past.

When they apologize, they are always sincere, and they always look so aggrieved that it's hard to bear it.

"BOSS? Are you alright?" Song Xun had already opened the car door and was waiting, but when he saw BOSS suddenly stop and even his expression freeze for a moment, he couldn't help but ask.

Song Xun's voice seemed to bring Lu Bozhou back to his senses, "It's nothing."

He led Lu Chaochi into the car and headed towards Lanshan Mansion.

When they arrived, Lu Chaochi was already fast asleep.

"BOSS, here..." Song Xun hadn't finished speaking.

Turning my head, I saw the BOSS in the back seat, one hand on his knee, his slender fingers supporting his chin, looking at the young master who was already fast asleep in the child safety seat.

His gaze was unfocused, as if he were lost in thought. It seemed he was looking at Lu Chaochi, but also as if he were looking at something else entirely.

"Hmm," Lu Bozhou replied calmly, withdrawing his gaze.

Song Xun couldn't discern anything from his expression, as if the previous scene was just his own illusion.

Lu Bozhou got out of the car and picked up the sleeping child.

Lu Chaochi rested on his father's shoulder and continued to sleep soundly.

"Let's go home," Lu Bozhou said calmly to Song Xun.

"Okay, BOSS, get some rest." Song Xun nodded.

The next second, the BOSS, who was walking in, suddenly stopped and turned to look.

"Ah Xun, when is your brother coming back to China? Help me make an appointment." Lu Bozhou's voice remained low and indifferent.

But Song Xun could detect a hint of fatigue in his voice. He sighed softly, "Alright. Bo Zhou, you need to take it easy too. Your health is important."

……

Jiang Mian has been quite busy these past few days.

She was busy working. Her application to be stationed in the new area was quickly approved, and she familiarized herself with the delivery routes.

I'm busy looking for a new place so I can move out of my current apartment. I found one that's about the same price as my current one, but smaller, though the neighborhood is better than Yalai Xiaoyuan.

It was Meng Yang who introduced me; he had a friend who worked as a real estate agent, and with just a word, he helped me a lot.

While busy keeping in touch with Meng Yang, Jiang Mian was actually quite grateful for his help. However, his constant monitoring of her son's situation kept her on edge.

Jiang Mian tried to persuade him many times, saying, "Didn't you say he's very protective of his son? Even if you manage to take a picture, you might not be able to post it. You might as well not waste your time."

She also had to prepare to terminate her lease and move, as her rent for this place was due to expire.

All I need to do is get my deposit back.

On the day of the move, Jiang Feng came to help.

He had been busy with enrollment and military training at Luocheng No. 1 High School these past few days. He was worried about Jiang Mian, so he rushed over as soon as he finished his training, only to find himself there to help her move.

Landlord Zhao He was clearly not someone to be trifled with, and Jiang Mian was even prepared for a tough battle to get her deposit back after terminating the lease.

But it wasn't as difficult as she had imagined. Perhaps it was because she hadn't kept the spare key properly last time, which led to a drunk man breaking into Jiang Mian's place.

Although Zhao He had a forced smile on her face, she only said, "Since you suddenly decide not to rent anymore, it's not easy for me to find someone else temporarily, and I'll have to clean it all over again... I'll have to deduct two hundred from your deposit."

Jiang Mian had no objections; this was much less of a wrangling situation than she had imagined.

"Okay." Jiang Mian nodded.

Jiang Feng frowned behind him and said in a low voice, "What's so good about it? If she hadn't failed to keep the spare key safe, you wouldn't have been scared like that last time...!"

Jiang Mian reached out and pressed down on Jiang Feng's hand, stopping him.

Then he turned to Zhao He and said, "Sister Zhao, I'm moving out today. Thank you for taking care of me during this time."

Zhao He was fairly satisfied with Jiang Mian's attitude. Jiang Mian told Jiang Feng to wait at the door while she went with Zhao He to the mahjong parlor to get her deposit back.

When they arrived at the mahjong parlor, Zhao He transferred money to her while saying, "Xiao Jiang, I heard from your father that he plans to marry you off in the future. I think he has a bad heart and is planning to sell you for a dowry. He also loves to gamble. Besides... you have a younger brother."

If what Zhao He said up to this point was still considered normal, Jiang Mian began to understand the implications of what she said next.
