Shen Que felt a chill run down his spine, but stubbornly replied, "I don't know what you're talking about."

"Playing dumb is pointless. The evidence is still on the table." Yan Zhen tapped the table with his finger. "Next time, come up with a smarter trick. This trick is outdated; even melodramatic soap operas don't use it anymore."

Shen Que: "..."

"Let me guess, if I get drugged, what do you plan to do to me?" Yan Zhen said with a smile. "Will you blind me, or break my legs? Make me a complete cripple, so you can control me from now on?"

"..." Shen Que's heart raced, and his expression grew increasingly grim.

"Tsk tsk." Yan Zhen shook his head. "How wicked! Who came up with this idea?"

Upon hearing this, Huang Guilan visibly tensed up, and when Yan Zhen's gaze swept over her, she lowered her head guiltily.

Yan Zhen looked at the increasingly pale mother and son, chuckled, and picked up the broken porcelain bowl on the table, slowly playing with it: "Neither of you will admit it, huh? Then I can only..."

Shen Que's nerves tightened at her threatening gesture, and his wounds immediately throbbed with pain. He blurted out, "What do you want?"

Yan Zhen smiled slightly: "If you finish this pot of soup, I won't hold it against you."

Shen Que suddenly stood up, his facial muscles twitching with anger: "Jiang Yunong, don't push your luck!"

"Is this going too far? What do you call your act of drugging people?"

Shen Que's chest heaved violently, and his gaze at Yan Zhen was so fierce that he wished he could tear her apart alive.

The two stared at each other for a few seconds, then Yan Zhen waved his hand and said, "Don't look at me like that. Since it's a multiple-choice question, you have the right to refuse the soup."

These words made Shen Que even more wary. He had a premonition that refusing to drink the soup would have even worse consequences.

He stared intently at Yan Zhen, his muscles tense, fearing she might suddenly launch a sneak attack.

Yan Zhen slowly ladled out a bowl of soup. While Shen Que was distracted by her actions, she suddenly kicked him under the table, knocking him to his knees.

"Ah!!!" Shen Que was caught off guard, his knee hit the floor, and the pain shot up his spine to the top of his head, shaking his whole body and causing him to feel dizzy.

Before he could react, Yan Zhen quickly circled behind him, grabbed his throat with one hand, and poured the soup into his mouth with the other.

"You can refuse to drink the soup, but I'll feed you!!!"

Shen Que's teeth were pried open by the soup bowl, and he gulped down a third of the chicken soup, spilling the rest all over himself.

Upon seeing this, Huang Guilan screamed and tried to rush over to pull Yan Zhen away.

As soon as she approached, Yan Zhenkong grabbed Shen An's small fork and shoved it into the dining table with a "clang".

Huang Guilan trembled as the memory of being threatened with a knife by Yan Zhen that day returned to her. She immediately covered her cheek and took several steps back, her eyes filled with terror.

Shen Que, who was being pinned down, had eyes that were about to burst with rage. He desperately tried to pry Yan Zhen's hands off his neck and break free.

As she struggled, Yan Zhen felt a sharp pain in her arm. She looked down and saw that Shen Que's fingernails had scratched her arm until it was covered in blood.

She frowned, a hint of impatience rising within her. She pried Shen Que's hand off the ground, pulled over a chair leg, and stomped it on the back of his hand.

"what!!!"

Yan Zhen fed Shen Que most of a pot of chicken soup until he became confused, then let go of his hand and let him fall to the ground.

She disgustedly pulled out a tissue to wipe her hands, and out of the corner of her eye, she saw Shen An sitting at the dining table. She slapped her forehead—she forgot to get rid of this kid before she started.

He was also made to witness the scene of the violence.

"An'an, go back to your room. You're not allowed to come out unless I tell you to."

Shen An was obedient; he responded, jumped off the chair, and left.

Yan Zhen took a shower, changed out of his clothes which were splattered with chicken soup, and came out of the bathroom. Huang Guilan was kneeling on the floor, sobbing softly while wiping the greasy floor with a towel.

Shen Que was dragged to the sofa and lay down; he was already unconscious.

As Yan Zhen walked over, Huang Guilan immediately tensed up, staring at her intently, afraid that she might do something else to Shen Que.

Fortunately, Yan Zhen only leaned closer to check on Shen Que's condition. Seeing that his breathing was even and his heartbeat was stable, she turned to Huang Guilan and called out, "Mom."

Huang Guilan's brain felt like it had been tugged: "Ah."

"This medicine is good. It's potent but doesn't harm your health. Where did you buy it?" Yan Zhen asked sincerely. "Send me the link."

Huang Guilan: "..."

-

Shen Que was unconscious for 36 hours before slowly waking up. After regaining consciousness, he had no strength at all and his head was throbbing with pain.

He slowly sat up, turned his head to look at his reflection in the window glass. His forehead was wrapped in gauze, his face was so swollen that his features were unrecognizable, his arm was in a cast, the back of his hand was wrapped like a rice dumpling, and another of his newly fitted front teeth had fallen out.

He looked as pathetic as a drowned dog.

Shen Que clenched his fists involuntarily. Why did things turn out this way?

Why did Jiang Yunong, who had been completely subdued by him for the past six years, suddenly start to rebel?

And every time he made a move, he could directly target his weaknesses.

And how dare she?!

He was merely exercising his right as a husband to discipline his wife; what right did she have to resist?!

Shen Que was filled with pent-up frustration with nowhere to vent it when the door creaked open and Huang Guilan entered.

Seeing that Shen Que was awake, she breathed a sigh of relief and asked with concern, "How are you? Is anything bothering you?"

Shen Que glanced behind her and asked instead of answering, "Where is she?"

“She took An’an out…” Huang Guilan’s eyes reddened as she spoke of Jiang Yunong. She sat down by the bed and whispered, “Son, why don’t you divorce her?”

Shen Lie's eyes widened immediately: "Impossible!"

“If you two don’t divorce, she’ll beat you to death sooner or later.” Huang Guilan cried. “That woman has no humanity at all. She’s so ruthless every time she hits you, and we can’t beat her…”

"Stop talking! I'm not going to divorce her!" Shen Que said irritably. "Being unable to beat her is only temporary. Once I've recovered from my injuries, I'll see how I deal with her!"

Huang Guilan hesitated, as if she wanted to say something but then stopped.

Shen Que said impatiently, "What else do you want to say?"

"How about we go to the Jiang family?" Huang Guilan said cautiously. "Didn't you threaten her with her parents before? She fell for that. As long as we find her weakness, she won't dare to be so arrogant anymore."

Shen Que paused.

He was so angry he completely forgot about that.

The couple had been married for six years when Jiang Yunong could no longer endure his domestic violence and ran back to her parents' home several times, only to be forced to return each time he threatened her parents' lives.

If I do the same thing again, am I still afraid of not being able to subdue her?

She's not afraid of death, but she can't just disregard her parents' safety, can she?

Thinking of this, Shen Que disregarded the pain in his body and immediately got up, saying as he dressed, "Mom, go and get that can of gasoline from the storage room."
