You absolutely mustn't be like those incredibly resilient kids in the compound; they really can climb onto the roof and tear off the tiles!
Hu Jie came to look for his daughter early in the morning.
He picked up Hu Yingying and asked, "Did you miss Daddy, my sweet girl?"
Hu Yingying was lifted up with a big smile, "I missed you so much, Daddy! I missed you so much!"
Hu Jie hugged her and said, "How about Daddy takes you to the state-run restaurant for breakfast?"
Hu Yingying nodded emphatically, "Yes, I want to eat wontons."
The father and daughter walked out happily, only to run into her father and nephew who were also leaving the house.
"Second son, where are you going?" Father Hu walked over, leading his eldest grandson. "Is this Yingying? You've grown so much! Do you recognize me?"
Hu Yingying stared wide-eyed. Was this the person who had taken over her home?
She doesn't like it at all.
Hu Yingying turned her head away, not wanting to look at them.
Hu Jie said helplessly, "Dad, Yingying was so young back then, how could she remember?"
"Yingying, this is Grandpa, and that's your brother. Greet them!"
Hu Yingying remained silent; she didn't want to shout.
Hu Jie didn't blame her. "Dad, Yingying is timid."
Mr. Hu snorted, "They should be old enough to understand things by now, but they can't even greet people properly. In our village, children this age would be helping adults with their work."
He wanted to say more, but seeing Hu Jie's face darken, he had no choice but to stop and simply asked, "Where are you going?"
Hu Jie: "Let's go eat breakfast."
Mr. Hu's eyes lit up. "That's perfect. We'll go with you. Wait for me, I'll wake up your older brother and the others. We haven't had breakfast like city people have before."
He put his eldest grandson in front of Hu Jie and ran back into the house.
Hu Jie didn't want to take them out to eat or spend money on them, so he turned around and ran away, which made Hu Yingying laugh out loud.
Left behind, Hu Bin saw his uncle run away and immediately started wailing, "Grandpa, my uncle didn't take me to eat breakfast! Ahhh, I want to eat breakfast! Waaaaah~"
Father Hu ran out and saw that his second son, that brat, had disappeared without a trace. He was so angry that he started cursing loudly. The two of them, grandfather and grandson, were so loud that they woke up everyone else in the courtyard.
"What are you doing? Can't you be quiet this early in the morning?"
"You guys don't go to work, but we do. Can't people get some sleep?"
"Who is it? They have no manners at all."
"Why are you wailing like your own father has died? Is it necessary? If you want to eat, go buy some yourself."
"My grandson is crying like this, and I still can't bear to spend money."
“Your grandpa didn’t love you that much either. Let me tell you, the head chef at our state-run restaurant makes the best breakfasts. Nowhere else can you find them as good as his.”
"It would be a waste not to eat it; it's the same as coming for nothing."
"You have to go eat it! It's different every day. If you miss it today, you won't be able to have that kind of breakfast tomorrow."
The neighbors, who had been woken up, were filled with resentment and started talking nonsense, all to make this brat drool and disturb their peace.
"Grandpa, I want to eat, I want to eat, I want to eat today!" Hu Bin cried, pulling on his grandfather's hand.
Mr. Hu looked troubled. They had come here specifically for Hu Jie's things, but the boy had run away. He was reluctant to spend money on breakfast; he wanted to keep his food coupons and money.
So he coaxed his beloved grandson, "Binbin, after lunch, let your uncle take us out for a nice meal. Breakfast will be just a quick bite, okay?"
Hu Bin sniffed, and was about to agree when he heard Aunt Wang next door say, "The breakfast at the state-run restaurant is amazing! They have crispy fried dough sticks, sweet and tender fried sugar cakes, incredibly delicious wontons, noodles with big chunks of meat, and juicy steamed buns that burst with flavor with every bite. Oh, the taste!"
Hu Bin burst into tears again, crying, "I want to eat, I want to eat, boohoo~"
Finally, with a dark expression, Mr. Hu hardened his heart and beat his eldest grandson, then threw the crying grandson into the house.
It's impossible for him to bleed, not even if it's his most beloved grandson.
