The socially awkward villain's furry superpower
Chapter 15 A Misunderstanding
Teddy had no idea what this strange guy had done to anger the boss.
All she knew was that this guy was shorter and far less strong than her, and based on those two points alone, she could easily pin him against the wall and make him stay there to listen to the boss's questions.
“I…have a question to ask.” Sienna’s voice trembled slightly, as if she was trying her best to suppress her anger.
Aleya, Iakta—it's a strange name, but it's written above his head, and he looks a bit pale.
This reaction is probably normal; if the eldest brother were angry with her, Teddy thinks he would also turn pale.
“Ask…ask away,” Aleya, Iakta said, forcing a cheerful tone. “I’m at your service, boss.”
Sienna frowned at him. "Why did you run away from those heroes?" she asked.
"I swear, I was just walking down the street, not bothering anyone. Then they started yelling at me, 'That charming lady?'"
"It was that girl in that awful outfit! She started throwing fireworks at me! So I ran away as fast as I could, and I swear I didn't mean to bump into you."
Sienna's brow furrowed even more. Teddy understood her meaning. She took a deep breath and then exhaled with a low growl from deep within her chest.
She even slightly opened her mouth to let Aleya Iakta see her sharp bear teeth.
“You…you were just walking?” Sienna asked, her voice shrill, on the verge of panic or screaming.
Teddy thought that Aleya and Iakta were really going to make the boss furious, since lying was against the boss's rules.
"Walking around in this outfit?"
"Uh, okay, maybe I did use my superpowers a little? You know, I took on a job or two... well, nothing serious. Completely harmless, I didn't rob anyone who didn't have insurance."
Teddy stretched out his paws.
Teddy felt a little pain when his claws dug into the bricks of the wall behind Aleia, but seeing the guy shrink back in fear made it all worth it.
“I may have used my superpowers on people too!” he screamed.
Sienna's eyes narrowed. "Your superpower? How does it work?"
The man waved his arms. "You know everyone has a bit of luck, right?"
Sienna didn't seem to appreciate his rhetorical question.
"Ah, um... I can take some luck from others and save it for a rainy day, let's just say that."
"Take a little from here and a little from there from people on the street, you know what I mean?"
"And then you use that to decide which alley to hide in?" Sienna asked.
Teddy hadn't thought of that, and couldn't help but admire how clever the eldest brother was.
Aleya Iakta nodded. "That's pretty much it. I used up a lot of my luck to find a place away from those heroes, and then I ran into you... I was really lucky."
Sienna seemed to calm down a bit. "That sounds at least more believable. Can others detect that you're using superpowers on them?"
“Yes,” he said. “It feels like, uh, like farting, but you feel it all over your body? Giving luck to others feels the opposite… at least that’s what people have told me.”
The old lady was so angry that her face turned red. Teddy didn't know what this guy had said that made her so angry, but she still yelled.
“Hey, don’t worry, I’m an honest man, I would never use my superpowers on my friends,” he said with a laugh.
However, even Teddy knew that the smile was obviously fake.
"I just want to go home, maybe move to the next city? I don't want to cause trouble on your turf."
“My territory?” Sienna asked.
The man swallowed hard. "No... it's your territory, your city."
“You don’t need to move,” the eldest brother said. “I don’t have any… territory. I just… I just want to do my own thing.”
“Yes, yes, of course,” he stammered, “I’m so, so sorry for bumping into you, thank you…”
As he spoke, he reached into his jacket and pulled out a large wad of cash, various banknotes crumpled into a ball. "I'll give you half of what I won today. That way we're even, okay?"
"Half?" the boss asked.
Teddy knew what this meant.
She swung a claw and snatched the wad of cash from the man's hand, slamming it to the ground.
【mission completed! 】
[Robbing a stranger!]
[Reward: Gain +1 skill upgrade point for each successful robbery!]
That's awesome! The boss must know that Teddy's heist is still going on.
“Yes, yes, that’s fair, of course,” Aleya Iakta said. “Take it all. This is my just deserts, isn’t it, boss?”
“Boss?” Sienna asked. “Of course, you can call me boss if you want.”
After a while, the man suddenly realized what was happening, and Teddy took a step back.
The boss has already brought him under his wing, but he's much newer than Teddy, so he doesn't have much experience or anything like that.
Moreover, compared to her, he was small and soft.
Aleya, Iakta nodded, straightened up a bit, and patted the front of his shirt. "Yes. Okay. So, uh. Boss, what do you want me to do?"
"Do?" Sienna asked doubtfully, then shook her head. "I don't think I can ask you to turn yourself in. That would be too hypocritical."
She paused for a moment, then sighed. "Let's go. Also, please try not to kill or hurt anyone. I don't want those heroes coming over with a bunch of questions again."
“I’ll be careful,” Aleya Iakta said, then adjusted his large feathered hat.
Sienna also took a step back and gestured towards the alley entrance.
A moment later, the words above her head flickered a few times and disappeared. She returned to being the ordinary girl who was also the leader of the secret gang.
“Great, fantastic,” he said. “Boss, if you don’t mind me asking, what kind of scheme are you plotting here?”
“A…conspiracy?” Sienna asked. “No, I was working at the soup kitchen at the time.”
The man's eyes widened. "Did you poison the food or something?"
"What?! No! I'm washing the dishes."
Aleya, Iakta nodded, "Hmm...poisoning the tableware? That would make it even harder to find out who did it."
……
"You can leave now," Sienna said, somewhat speechless.
Aleya Iakta snapped to attention and then jogged away towards the end of the alley.
In no time, he ran off and disappeared from sight.
Teddy felt it was time for her to turn into a bear, so she turned back into her original form and became Teddy again.
"Well done, boss."
It feels a bit strange that she went from being taller than the eldest brother to being much shorter than him.
“Thanks, Teddy.” Sienna crouched down and picked up the bucket of dirty water. “I think we should get back to work.”
"Okay, shall we get something to eat later? Maybe we can eat here?"
The eldest nodded. "I'll ask them if they can save us two meals," Sienna added, "but they'll be unhappy if we delay any longer."
Teddy nodded in agreement.
This little incident was quite interesting, but her work in drying the cutlery and plates for her comrades was equally important.
Teddy was pleased that his eldest brother recognized the needs of the proletariat, which the book said was very important.
“Okay,” Teddy said, “Let’s go back to work then. We can continue planning after lunch.”
