The socially awkward villain's furry superpower
Chapter 114 A Reasonable Upgrade
The situation has not calmed down.
Sienna had witnessed several fights between masked men before, and they felt like a compilation of highlights or a shaky long-distance video shot by someone lacking common sense who got too close—it didn't do them any good.
Those fights usually ended abruptly, quickly and suddenly.
Rationally, she understood the reason. Usually, whoever delivers the more powerful blow first can force the opponent out of the battle.
The only exception is when the party that attacks second has the ability to negate the attack, in which case the situation becomes extremely chaotic.
She had never seen a fight with so many masked men before. She was certain that such a situation had occurred before, but she hadn't paid much attention to this world full of masked men and superpowers.
The fight showed no signs of ending anytime soon.
Fabian moved along the edge of the battlefield, weaving between the Reaper and the others. He wielded his sword, skillfully dodging and manipulating the Reaper's chains with near-perfect agility.
Sienna felt that if she hadn't known beforehand, she wouldn't have been able to tell they were enemies.
Black Shield was desperately trying to shake Trinity off his legs. She stumbled along, while Leopard shoved her with his shield, circling her rapidly, trying to trip the hero to the ground.
After a moment's thought, he looked around, leaped to his feet, and decided that running away was the best option, so he quickly made his escape. The glamorous Supergirl yelled something at him, but her tone didn't sound like she was praising him.
Meanwhile, Teddy was fighting Fabian. The bear roared and swung its claws at the somewhat scoundrel-like man.
Sienna knew that Teddy was holding back, and she could tell at a glance that Fabian's retaliatory strikes were only half-hearted attacks.
The tail-end man caused even more trouble; his chain had Teddy completely entangled, making it impossible for him to remove the chain to deal with Fabian.
“Okay,” Sienna said. She roughly understood what was going on.
The glamorous superwoman stormed toward her, clearly extremely dissatisfied with everything that was happening before her eyes.
Sienna refocused her attention on the heroine. “Family Zoo: Teddy,” she murmured.
She felt a little bigger; her coat felt tighter on the back, and her pants felt even tighter. She hoped she didn't look silly; she knew there were plenty of phones pointed at them.
“You!” said the charismatic Superwoman.
Sienna resisted the urge to turn around. It was obvious that "Glamour Woman" referred to her. "Glamour Woman," she replied.
“This mess is all your fault,” said the glamorous Supergirl.
Sienna had no intention of refuting this point. The woman was right. The fight was indeed her fault. However, to be fair, Athena might have also played a role in instigating it.
The owl girl was chuckling to herself next to Sienna, her gaze shifting between the various fight scenes.
“So how do you plan to handle this?” Sienna asked. “I’m not a frontline combatant. Neither is this—not even Owlwatch.”
Charm Girl stopped, opened her mouth, then closed it again. She looked back. The fighting had actually gradually subsided.
Black Shield lay on the ground, her hands raised above her head in a defensive stance. Two Trinity sat on her chest, and another ran around her, arms raised high, looking victorious.
The leopard was panting heavily not far away, still watching the woman on the ground warily.
On the other side, Teddy was stumbling toward the Finisher, while Fabian rolled away to avoid him. The rogue stood up, looked around, and for a moment, his gaze locked onto Sienna.
He nodded, then raised his sword and bowed beside his forehead.
“Oh no!” Charm Girl shouted, “Wait! He’s getting away!” She threw three dazzling orbs of light at the fleeing villain.
Sienna held her breath, only to see the leopard suddenly turn around. This woman was faster than Fabian; that was her specialty. If she…
Then the ball of light thrown by Charm Girl exploded, and Leopard flinched in fright.
Fabian seized the opportunity to weave between the three orbs of light. He dashed into the crowd at the edge of the parking lot, and people scattered to avoid him, but he wasn't fast enough to prevent him from using the crowd as cover.
"Got you!" the finisher shouted.
Sienna quickly turned around, only to see Teddy lying on the ground, tightly bound by the chain.
She frowned. "Sisters Teleport, Ursa Minor." She wasn't sure if using Teddy's hero name would work until a grizzly bear landed on the ground in front of her, shook itself, and fluffed up its fur.
The Finisher realized everyone's eyes were on him, and the smile vanished from his face. "Uh," he said. Many of the chains that had been floating around him drooped down, some even gently wrapping back around his arms and torso, as if he could clearly hear every jingle they made.
"Have you made enough of a scene?" Sienna asked him in a tone that sounded like she was scolding her sisters.
"That should be enough, right?" he replied timidly.
Sienna nodded, then turned to Charm Girl. "Now, Charm Girl, the question is whether you'll do the right thing."
Sienna didn't really know what the right thing to do in this situation was, but perhaps Charm Girl knew better than her, so she figured there was no harm in throwing the problem back at the woman.
Supergirl glared at Sienna, then glanced at the people on the sidewalk and the cars that had stopped in the middle of the road to watch. The distant honking of horns indicated that others weren't too happy about the traffic jam they'd caused.
“We are waiting for reinforcements to arrive,” she said.
"And then?" Sienna asked.
Charmgirl crossed her arms. "We'll see how it goes. Cheap Leopard, can you take Black Shield to the middle of the parking lot? Finisher, you come with us." Charmgirl snorted, "Boss, can you keep an eye on them too?"
Sienna nodded. "Bandits, you two stick close to them. Owl Watch, Ursa Minor, stay close, just in case."
“Okay, boss, don’t worry,” Teddy said. Her voice, now that she was a grizzly bear, was deep and menacing, rumbling loudly.
“Understood, boss,” Athena said. She smiled, a smug look on her face. She… could be considered to have done some merit, I suppose. Sienna suspected that much of the paranoia displayed by the others was influenced by Athena's abilities.
The two men Sienna accused of being villains were taken to the middle of the parking lot, where Sienna's sisters formed a cordon around them. Charm Girl, meanwhile, angrily went to find Hindsight, who was hiding nearby.
Meanwhile, Sienna found herself with nothing to do but wait for her wildly beating heart to calm down. But it was taking much longer than she expected. The Hyperpower Response Team (HRF) was on its way, and they were likely to botch Sienna's already poorly planned schemes.
During this time… she walked over to the leopard. “You, well, not bad,” Sienna said.
Leopard blinked, then smiled. "Thank you," she said. This woman was a few years older than Sienna, probably almost thirty. This made Sienna feel a little awkward, and she had to try to overcome it. "So, you have your own team?" Leopard asked.
"what?"
Leopard pointed to her sisters. "A team? With, well, these kids?"
“Oh,” Sienna said, “I suppose so. We have another member, an older one. Well, about my age. Not a frontline combatant. Uh, maybe another one will join us soon.”
“It’s fine,” said Cheating Leopard. “I shouldn’t have said anything, but… they seem a bit too young to be doing this kind of thing, you know?”
“A little, I think,” Sienna said. She also felt that hiring a bunch of teenagers to help wasn’t exactly something to be proud of. “I mainly wanted to keep them out of trouble.”
“That’s right,” said the leopard, “I just hope you can take good care of them. They all seem like pretty good kids.”
“You, well, obviously haven’t spent much time with them,” Sienna said.
Just then, Trinity started singing a song she made up herself, with lyrics that went something like "We'll beat you, beat you until you're pissing your ass," repeated over and over with an annoying tune. However, she did manage to harmonize with herself quite well.
In the distance, sirens wailed and police lights flashed. The vehicles that had stopped to watch began to move forward, probably worried about receiving hefty tickets if the police found them blocking the road when emergency vehicles tried to approach.
The first car to arrive was a convertible Eep (note: a type of car), its body painted in the signature black and green of the Psychic Emergency Unit. As soon as the car hit the curb, a figure jumped out of the passenger seat and crouched down in the parking lot.
She slowly stood up, glanced around, and then wiped the area below her nose. "What the hell is going on?"
Sienna swallowed hard, and then an angry-looking Melaton strode into the scene.
