The socially awkward villain's furry superpower
Chapter 101 A Moment of Tranquility
Sienna gradually began to think that Mr. Hydeson was practically a saint.
When she returned (she had called her mother beforehand to reassure the two elderly ladies that everything was alright), the teacher had already brought a cloth and helped wipe the ice cream stains off everyone's cheeks and mouths.
Then she gathered Sienna's sisters and her own daughter into the small classroom and started teaching them on the spot, teaching them a math lesson that was decided on the spot.
“I think,” Sienna’s mother said as they prepared to leave, “Heather was actually quite happy. You know, her daughter has never had any adventures. Mothers always worry.”
Sienna wondered if her mother had worried about her lack of adventure when she was little. She had never sneaked out to buy ice cream before.
That being said, unlike her sisters, she didn't have so many people around her encouraging and leading each other astray.
When Sienna discovered that all the girls were missing, she knew it must be her sisters' fault. But even after she found them, she still gave in and bought each of them a small ice cream cone.
If she has children in the future (if that day ever comes), she might be a terrible parent.
Mom promised to pick up the girls around four o'clock, which meant that for the second time in a week, Sienna had most of a day to herself.
After her mother dropped her off at the edge of the school, Sienna went to class and attended two classes in a row.
She couldn't help but check her phone every now and then, worried that something might have gone wrong with her sisters. But thankfully, her phone remained quiet, and she didn't receive any of the scary texts Heather sent, like Athena scaring the postman half to death or Teddy setting the house on fire after learning about taxes.
After class, Sienna was a little worried that she had only absorbed about half of what she should have learned. Fortunately, as she left the classroom, she noticed that several students were still half-asleep even after class. If the grades were graded according to the distribution curve, she probably wouldn't have to worry too much.
Nevertheless, after returning to her dormitory, Sienna took out her textbooks and reviewed the lessons she had learned that day, as well as her brief notes.
Some points suddenly became clear, but upon reflection, most of them were actually quite simple and easy to understand.
She went online to search for relevant content of her courses on the school forum and found that some students from previous years had posted their notes. So she copied some of the good knowledge points that she had missed into her notebook.
There's a great feeling when you do something so diligently, which made Sienna feel very productive, as if she were in control of her life in the only way she could.
Just then, someone knocked on the door, and the door to her room shook.
Sienna's heart skipped a beat, almost jumping out of her throat, but she managed to calm herself down and stood up to see who it was.
She saw Sam standing outside the door, along with an older woman she didn't recognize. "Uh, hello?" Sienna asked.
“Look,” Sam said, not to Sienna, but to the woman beside him, “there’s only Sienna in the room. I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“I’ve received some reports,” the woman said.
“Yes, of course,” Sam said. “There’s a methamphetamine lab hidden in the bathroom of room 604.”
"What?!" the woman exclaimed.
Sam shook his head. "I just wanted to make one point: anyone can make up something, but that doesn't mean it's true. And, hey, Sienna."
“Uh, hello,” Sienna said again, “is there anything I can do to help?”
Sam shook his head. "This is... Dorothy? She's received some complaints that children are staying on this floor."
“Oh,” Sienna said, “uh…”
“I told her that the only children around here are the sisters who came a few days ago, but they didn’t stay here for long.”
“Yes, that’s right,” Sienna said. “I think they’re at school now, with my mom. My mom came by too. Is that alright?”
Dorothy sighed. "Well, no problem. I'm sorry to bother you, Miss Isabella."
“It’s okay,” Sienna said.
Sam and Dorothy exchanged a few more words as they walked toward the elevator. Then Sam waved goodbye to the woman and hurried back to Sienna. "This is a bit strange."
"Has someone filed a complaint?" Sienna asked.
“Yeah, a kid stole the toaster,” Sam said. “Someone complained about it, and then someone said it was Trinity, and… well, now there’s a rumor going around. But hey, no kids are here today, so we’re lucky, right?”
“I think so,” Sienna said. “That could have been a huge problem.”
"What are you busy with?" Sam asked as he went into Sienna's room.
“I’m studying,” Sienna said, deliberately using the present continuous tense to imply to Sam that she was busy.
Sam nodded. "That's good, that's good. I won't take up too much of your time," she said, plopping down in Sienna's chair. "Have you heard about Chain Man?"
Sienna closed the door. "I haven't heard anything about it."
"Oh, right, that's the same scoundrel who robbed the bank a few days ago. He's done it again, but this time it's a jewelry store. Do you know that jewelry store next to the pawn shop?"
“I don’t know that store, but it doesn’t matter,” Sienna said. “What does this have to do with Chain Man?”
"That's right, Chain Man was in that area at the time, with Charm Girl—"
Sienna raised a hand, interrupting Sam's story. "Isn't he in jail?"
“No,” Sam said, emphasizing the “p” sound in an exaggerated way. “He changed his name, wears one of those novice hero suits, and always has someone with him when he goes out, but that’s him.”
I saw that guy up close. A half-face mask couldn't hide his identity. Besides, how many guys in a city would use chains? But his equipment is slightly different now.”
“Why isn’t he in prison?” Sienna asked.
Sam grinned. "Annoying, isn't it?"
"I...I don't know, maybe. We did arrest him, though."
"Yeah, but the Hostage Rescue Team (HRT) took him away, which means they're going to reform him. I don't think he's really that kind of complete villain."
You know what? He might be a guy with a hero's name but not quite right in the head. So they have to repackage him and retrain him. This kind of thing happens all the time.
“This…this is so unfair,” Sienna said. “I can’t imagine that those so-called good people would let me go so easily. After all, I’m a real villain, at least judging from my superpowers.”
Sam nodded in agreement. "Anyway, he was training with Charm Girl at the time, just the two of them, with two bodyguards with them."
He wandered around, showed his face, shook hands, signed autographs, and familiarized himself with the business. All those boring, low-level public relations activities. Then, just then, the bank robbers attacked the jewelry store on the next street.
"Did they catch the robbers?" Sienna asked.
"No, but they did fight, right there in the street. Well, it was more of a chase than a fight."
Sienna walked to the bedside and sat on the edge. "This sounds...actually quite scary. Did they catch the robber?"
“No, not at all,” Sam said. “Well, maybe a little closer. I heard they’re looking for him at all the local hospitals. Chain Boy beat the robber pretty badly.”
There are videos too, everything. Charm Girl always manages to turn a scene into a light show, so a lot of people noticed it.
"How do you know all this?" Sienna asked.
"I saw it online."
That's... a reasonable answer.
"So, Chain Man is back, and we might have to fight him again. This time he'll know us better, so we might not catch him off guard again. Maybe someone will even help him."
“Yes, but we beat him once before,” Sam said confidently. “We can beat him again. I’m more interested in that robber.”
"That bank robber?" Sienna asked.
Sam nodded. "Yeah. He might be injured, which means if some kind soul happens to offer him a suggestion, well, he can't refuse, right?"
"So how do you plan to find this person?" Sienna asked.
"It's the protagonist's halo."
"What?" Sienna asked, wondering if another person with superpowers was about to cause her trouble.
“Your protagonist aura,” Sam said, “you know, it’s that ability of yours to always encounter all sorts of bizarre coincidences that end up helping you.”
“I don’t have that ability,” Sienna said. “I wish I did, it would save me a lot of trouble.”
Sam leaned back into Sienna's chair. "Do you know anyone who can help?"
"Why are you so obsessed with this guy?" Sienna asked.
"He robbed a bank! That's the most typical villainous thing to do, and he's still at large. I'd love to shake his hand, maybe even kiss his cheek and pat him on the back..."
“Okay—okay,” Sienna interrupted her, “I might know someone who knows a lot of things. He’s an information broker, but I really don’t understand why we’re going after this robber. Let the heroes handle him; he’s not our problem.”
Sam listened and gave a meaningful yet slightly dangerous smile.
