Chapter 186 Returning South for Spring Festival (Chapter 9)

The day after returning to Guangzhou, Xiaomeng drove Chef Bao to the suburban farmers' market early in the morning to buy groceries.

On the way back, I bought two puppies from a farmer's stall by the roadside, one yellow and one white.

The stall owner said this puppy is a genuine local breed, best kept in homes with large yards, as it excels at guarding the house. It's not suitable for apartment buildings; the small space makes the puppy restless and prone to barking. He sells puppies at the market mainly to rural people who want them to guard their yards in the countryside.

Xiaomeng thought it was perfect, "My house has a big yard, and I was just thinking of buying a dog to guard the house."

The stall owner was delighted to hear this and happily helped Xiaomeng choose a dog, specifically picking out one bold and one gentle and affectionate. He said that dogs with complementary personalities like these would be more suitable for working together.

Although these puppies were all Chinese rural dogs, they weren't sold cheaply. Xiaomeng gave the shopkeeper 1,320 yuan, a lucky number.

On her way back to the city, Xiaomeng stopped at the district animal husbandry bureau's animal husbandry station to get the puppy vaccinated and buy it deworming medicine.

The veterinarian examined the puppy and praised its good physical condition, saying it would be a good working dog.

This animal husbandry station is different from ordinary veterinary shops; it doesn't sell toys or snacks. Xiaomeng could only buy a dog leash and snacks for the puppy at the shop outside the gate.

When Xiaomeng got home, she found Tang Yulun playing with his dog in her yard.

He wasn't playing with the dog; he was just teasing it, trying to get it to play with him.

The dog he was playing with was a mature and steady Doberman Pinscher, its ears standing straight up, sitting at the feet of driver Bi, looking at him with a serious expression. It looked like a former dog police officer.

Master Bi proudly introduced, "Awei isn't familiar with you yet, but after a while, he'll gradually start playing with you."

Seeing Xiaomeng carrying a cardboard box, he greeted her, "Miss Lin, you're back. Thank you for letting me bring Awei over to play."

I heard you're also interested in adopting a retired police dog?

Xiaomeng said, "Yes, it's good to have a few dogs to guard the house. Is this the dog that often comes to help me guard the house? It looks so smart. Here's a little gift for you, handsome young man."

Xiaomeng put down the box she was carrying, took out a bag of dog treats from the box, took out a large piece of chicken jerky from it, and handed it to Awei.

Ah Wei only put the dried meat in his mouth after seeing the master take it from him.

Tang looked on with envy. "Awei is so obedient, unlike those stupid dogs that only destroy the house. Awei, why aren't you eating? Hurry up and eat, what are you looking at?"

Xiao Tang noticed that Awei didn't eat the jerky right away, but instead held the jerky in his mouth and looked at Xiaomeng's box.

"Oh, you must have noticed there are little kids in here." Xiaomeng smiled and took out two newly weaned puppies from the box.

"I saw that my yard is quite big, and I was worried that one dog wouldn't be enough, so I bought two more," Xiaomeng said, looking up at Master Bi.

Xiao Tang immediately surrendered upon seeing the puppy, exclaiming, "What an adorable puppy! I want to pet it!"

Two puppies, one lay down and let Xiao Tang pet it, while the other struggled to escape from Xiao Tang's clutches, trotted over to Awei, and lay down in front of him.

Awei stared intently at the puppy, seemingly lost in thought.

"It's a nice little mongrel, very smart, a good watchdog, and very cooperative. In the past, people in the village kept these kinds of dogs to guard their homes." Master Bi thought the puppy was quite good.

The puppy and Awei were playing well together. Awei was only serious for a short while before he started sniffing the puppy's belly. The puppy was rummaging through his mouth for treats, but Awei didn't get angry; he even spat them out for the puppy to play with. He didn't seem depressed at all.

"Okay, I'll leave the puppy here to play for a bit. Master Bi, I'll have Sister Zhang help make a bed for the dog later. I'm going out now. There's a bag of treats here that belongs to Awei." Xiaomeng gave Awei a large bag of dog treats from the box, asking Master Bi to take it home for him.

"Where are you going?" Xiao Tang asked as he watched Xiao Meng walk towards the garage.

"Nowhere to go, just to pick up some clothes."

"I'm going too." Xiao Tang opened the door and got into Xiao Meng's electric scooter.
