Quick Transmigration Sweet Story, The White Moonlight Rescue Plan
Chapter 368 The White Moonlight in the Substitute Novel (8)
"Gu, Xiao, Xiao! Don't run away!" He Jing looked at the figure in front of her who was wearing high heels but still walking briskly. She was both annoyed and amused, and at the same time quickened her pace to catch up with him.
Gu Xiaoxiao, like a startled rabbit, didn't stop running after hearing his call; instead, she ran even faster. Her petite body darted left and right through the narrow, confined alley, each turn appearing hurried and chaotic.
The alleyway was winding and full of forks, and Gu Xiaoxiao had no time to figure out the way, only focusing on running wildly. Suddenly, she plunged into what seemed to be an escape route, only to find it was a dead end.
Gu Xiaoxiao stared in despair at the towering wall before her, feeling as if the sky were about to collapse. Her eyes widened, and she murmured in disbelief, "How could this be? There was clearly a dog hole here before..."
Just then, the approaching footsteps of a man behind her made Gu Xiaoxiao's heart race like a death knell. Terrified, she covered her face and frantically retreated. But her foot slipped on the scattered pebbles on the ground, causing her to lose her balance and fall hard.
Despite the sharp pain in her knees and hands, Gu Xiaoxiao dared not delay. She endured the pain, curling herself into a small ball and hiding like an ostrich in a dark corner. She closed her eyes tightly, clasped her hands together in front of her chest, and silently prayed that He Jing would not discover her hiding place.
Perhaps Gu Xiaoxiao's prayers truly moved the heavens, for when He Jing reached the fork in the road at the alley's entrance, he inexplicably chose to leave in another direction. Listening to the fading footsteps, Gu Xiaoxiao's tense nerves finally relaxed slightly. But she still dared not make a move, fearing He Jing might suddenly turn back.
After a long while, once she was sure there was no more movement, Gu Xiaoxiao limped back, leaning against the damp brick wall. Her high heels were nowhere to be seen. The moonlight cast a long, thin shadow of hers, but as she turned the corner of the alley, it was suddenly covered by another shadow.
"Miss Gu's escape route hasn't been updated in five years?" He Jing's lazy voice sounded from behind, startling her so much that she almost bumped into the flower stand against the wall. The man stretched out his long arm and pulled her into his arms, his warm palm perfectly supporting her sprained ankle.
Gu Xiaoxiao then noticed that he was holding her high heels in his other hand. Gu Xiaoxiao reached out to grab them, but He Jing lifted them high.
"Is Mr. He going to become a stalker?" She glared at him defiantly, but was silenced by his sudden action of pressing himself against the wall.
The man's long, slender fingers slowly untied his tie and, to her horror, bound it around her injured ankle.
"Last time someone tried to escape by climbing over the wall, cut their foot on broken glass and cried all the way home." He knelt down on one knee to tie her bow, moonlight casting a small shadow under her eyelashes. "This time I prepared a tourniquet in advance. Are you satisfied, Miss Gu?"
Gu Xiaoxiao's ears burned. "He Jing...we've already broken up!" Her voice trembled as he suddenly brought his handsome face close to hers.
He Jing held a chocolate-covered liqueur between his fingertips and pressed it to her lips, his deep voice unusually cold in the night: "I know, there's no need for Miss Gu to remind me unilaterally..."
A sudden gust of wind picked up in the distance, and she realized that light snow had started falling from the sky.
It's the first snow of the year again, a day that should be the most beautiful reunion, yet she keeps reminding herself that she has let go!
He Jing had already taken off his trench coat and draped it over her head, leaving himself in only a thin black vest. The familiar scent of cedarwood mixed with his body heat enveloped her, and suddenly she felt a cool metallic touch on the back of her neck—he had tucked his tie clip into her hair.
Gu Xiaoxiao's earlobes were frozen red by the wind and snow, but He Jing's breath was so hot that it made her back go numb.
The man carried her through the snow-covered alleyway with one arm, his black tie jingling in her hair—the token of their love that she had thrown into the fountain in a fit of pique five years ago.
"Mr. He, are you still so persistent in pursuing your ex-girlfriend?" She poked his heart with her fingertip, deliberately emphasizing the words "ex-girlfriend" in a lingering, tender tone.
The hem of his trench coat swept across her bare legs, and He Jing suddenly tightened his arms around her, causing her to sink into his chest.
“Now,” He Jing suddenly picked her up and strode toward the Cullinan parked at the alley entrance, “does Miss Gu want to continue playing cat and mouse with me, or do you want to be photographed by paparazzi meeting a mysterious man at night? And have your innocent image collapse?” His warm breath brushed against her red earlobe, “Miss Gu can choose for herself.”
The moment the car air freshener released the scent of cedarwood, Gu Xiaoxiao's pupils constricted. This was the fragrance that the original owner had personally blended when she was eighteen, and even the crooked "Jing" sticker on the glass bottle remained untouched.
He Jing unbuttoned the top button of his shirt with one hand, and as he leaned over to fasten her seatbelt, his Adam's apple bobbed, brushing against her forehead: "Miss Gu, after being a celebrity for so long, don't you have any counter-surveillance awareness at all?"
"What do you mean?" Gu Xiaoxiao's breath hitched, but He Jing glanced meaningfully at the fleeting lights outside the window. "You should think about how to explain your mysterious boyfriend to your boss Zhang tomorrow."
Gu Xiaoxiao dug her fingertips deep into the leather seat, and as she tried to break free of the seatbelt and jump out of the car, He Jing grabbed her hand and pressed it into the seat back: "Gu Xiaoxiao, five years ago you said that gold diggers didn't deserve sentimental roles..." The last part of her sentence was swallowed by his suddenly close breath, "So, if I turn myself into an ATM, am I qualified to get a new number?"
